When i looked at the NSPCC's fanpage on fb yesterday it had about 5000 fans. This minute it has 90,439 fans. The NSPCC have said in their status update that "they did not originate the campaign but welcome it".

85,000+ fans in a day raises awareness in my book.

    How does that help?

Was there a lack of awareness of child abuse?

Its not something that people go around thinking about even though it's at the back of peoples minds. If this last few days gets just 100 people to donate to child abuse charities then it has been worthwhile no?

and if it had been done right, a lot more would donate. why do something half assed? this fad started without any reference to child abuse, it was just a fad. someone tagged on the child abuse thing to try get it to catch on. What I'm suggesting is actually give people the link to donate, and ask them to donate.

I know everybody has a right to their opinion but i find it sick that people can support animal charities and not charities helping people.

Don't be ridiculous. ISPCA/DSPCA/etc get zero funding from the government and rely entirely on volunteers and donations.

ISPCC/etc do get government funding, and pay their ceo's in excess of €100,000 a year.

I also changed mine to pedo bear. Dont no if that makes me ironic, funny, neither or both. None of my friends seem to know what it means and dont get the joke. So i've ended up laughing at myself which is a little sad.

    My facebook status:
"Today I was about to moleste the **** out of a six year old child, but then I logged into Facebook and saw that everyone had changed their profile pictures to cartoon characters. Suddenly my heart swelled with joy. My children shall be abused no more."

I know that's not really the point, but I like being facetious. Stupid campaign. Everything Zuroph has said on this thread makes sense. Listen to him.

Its also not right that CEOs of these charities getting 100k salaries but
not to have a go at you or anything but does it really matter if a dog dies really, its just a dumb animal?

No, they are not just "dumb animals". Are you religious by any chance? Do you deny evolution happened?

Do dogs not benefit society in any way? Guide dogs for the blind? Sniffer dogs finding drugs/bombs/etc? Company for the elderly?

You also completely avoided the point of charities like DSPCA getting zero funding from the government , and DEPENDING on donations and VOLUNTEERS. And ISPCC getting funding from the government , and more than likely using your donation to fund their €100k ceos. Ironic!

Just to clarify - most charities receive a certain amount of government funding, ISPCC receives about 10% of its required funding from the government.
Also I used to work there and can tell you that no one gets paid that much. Their ENTIRE administration costs for 2009 were less than 300,000. That's just not possible is one person gets 100,000.

. You'd have to be naive to think that it actually is doing cpoious amounts of good for the cause. However, it's rasing awareness nonetheless. It's better having some awareness than no awareness at all.
Bollix. Who the hell is not aware of the horrendous child abuse that has been perpetrated in society particularly over the last 10 years where is always at least one TV programme or Newspaper article about it.

Sure donating to the ISPCC is just funding fat salaries
Really? Please supply figures and sources for your statement. Maybe you are right, I do think that some of the senior management positions in charities and indeed or very own public sector is well over paid. But do please supply source to back up your claim.
