I'm David! 20 ( 21 next week),Law student in UCD. Actually spend more time just drawing than taking notes though.. which is unfortunate :P. I always attempt to make my own little comics... but they generally just suck.. so i give up! I'm a big fan of Marathons / Triathlons, and compete in both as often as i can :)

My name is John, I'm your general stereotypical geek and into just about anything that can end the sentence "computer geeks like ...." (which is the reason I now drink black coffee). I come from a rural area where geeky things were punishable offences so I only got into anime in college. My first was great teacher onizuka which a friend loaned to me, about six months later I was making recommendations to them instead.

I haven't posted in this forum much, having only really started using (my five year old account :o) recently but I plan on using this section of the forum much more now.

Anyway in the spirit of the thread, this is apparently me.

Although I have been told that computer geeks like beards since then.

Hi guys, I'm new here, nice to make make your acquaintance(s) =]

My name's Nik, I'm 20, I go to NUIM, at first I did Multimedia (+ English) there, since I like graphic design etc, but it wasn't anything like I expected so I switched to Computer Science & Software Engineering instead, it's kinda boring atm, but good things come to those who wait right?

Em, okay so onto the important things. I supposed it all started with FFVII, the obsession with stories that is. Then there was FFVIII, almost as good, although with quite different undertones. Then there was FFX, which in the end was quite good. I didn't get into anime until I was about 17/18, my first anime being Neon Genesis Evangelion, what can I say, it blew my mind and I've been stumbling around since looking for the pieces :P It coincided nicely with my study of English at university, so that too was a blast. For lack of things I could watch, i checked out Bleach and Naruto, but I wasn't too impressed, since it wasn't really what I was looking for. What it is, I'm not quite sure, it is possible it's the feeling of getting enveloped in the story, I used to read a lot, I used to pick up a book as soon as I wake up on the weekend and not go to bed until early morning the next day, I wouldn't even notice. There are few books I know that are that good, as unfortunate as that is. This lead me to look for more stories to occupy myself with, consequently I came across some pretty good anime's, to list but a few: Devil May Cry, Ghost In A Shell, FLCL & Requiem For A Phantom.

I have a distinct taste, I suppose it's more of a gloomy one, for example I didn't particularly like Bleach nor Naruto until they developed a more serious (or whatever synonym you want to use) undertones, since I really came to like them. Although I've started following manga series instead, since it was....more focused I guess, probably better expressed too. No fillers is always a plus. There's too many anime/manga I've followed, I don't think I would be able to list them all :P

As for me in particular - I'm quite a critic (some call it being a dick), although I try to control myself and only let it slip where appropriate :P Not at all unfriendly, so don't worry about dropping a pm or asking a question =]
I think that about, randomly, covers my humble introduction :P I look forward to talking to you guys ^^

P.S. oh yeah, I'm one of those people who make a fine distinction between anime and cartoons, so tread lightly :P

Hi all, Happy New-ish Year to everyone! My name is Kar, i'm 26 ......ouch....and moved here recently for work.

Started my anime watching career with DBZ when i was stupidly young and pretty much fell in love. From an early age i pretty much fell into the stereo-typical asian past times of gaming, watching anime and eating noodles :D, I can thank my elder cousin for that!

Animes of note for me over the years have been Trigun, Berserk, GTO, Neon Genesis, Rurouni Kenshin, Full Metal Alchemist alongside various individual movies like Perfect Blue, Parpika, Ninja Scroll.

Been very on/off with my anime over the years, generally watching it when i have easy access and have people to watch and discuss it with

Haven't watched an episode of anime or picked up a single manga since i moved to Dublin, hoping to change that sometime soon. So much to catch up on

I don't cosplay but somehow got persuaded to dress up as Pikachu for a Halloween party, good and bad memories!

I'm the weird looking guy on the left, not the cute girl on the right :(

Welcome to the forum Kar! I insist you rectify your lack of anime/manga situation immediately :P

Definitely Konata. Not too sure what to watch tho, their's just too much choice and i currently have no anime as well :(

Will be making a trip back to the U.K. so if any is interested in temporary swaps, i'd be up for that as well.

Looking forward to future discussions. :D

Hey hey peeps, Newbie here too.

I liked anime since I first saw it around 10 I think. Although I've never actually gotten "into" it because it seems odd to quite a lot of people I knew. 19 Now and finally just saying fk it, I like anime cartoons.

Also; anyone have any recommendations apart from Bleach/Death Note/Full Metal Alchemist?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,164 ✭✭✭Konata

    Hi Ptard and welcome!

We've got a recommendation sticky here - there's some good suggestions in there. If you still can't find anything you're interested in, just post in the thread and someone should be able to help :)

Hmm.. I just registered and this section is the first one I'm going to pick on :D

I'm Casey but some friends call me Cas (without the other 's' lol) and I've been fond of anime and manga since I was around 10. I like anime but I prefer reading manga over the internet, but I'm considering just buying off the books because these scanlations take forever. I've never participated in an anime convention before as well. I'm so newb :pac:

    Yeah I'm not really Irish..

Haha, I guess I'm one of those females who has a guy name :|

Some names can be used by either gender, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭Butterscotch

Yeah of course there are lots of gender neutral names like Alex being a main one. I would defiantly see Casey being a girl's name.
Welcome to the forums by the way. :)

I’m Andy and I’m not an Anime type person , but have spawned an Idea !
Do we have here on this forum Lucky Star (manga) fans and who know of the Washinomiya Shrine in Kuki city Saitama that was used in the opening animation of the anime feature .

I’m seeking to collaborate with artist animators for a new (true-ish) short story episodes of a 14 year old girl who arrives on the West Side of Washinomiya . The Shrine is on the East Side and any reference to LUCKY STAR is licensed but we are free to use the Shrine as a part setting of any Japanese story.

I have three properties in Washinomiya Town if anybody is interested and the Shrine is now an Otaku pilgrimage destination on weekends and of course has now started an annual festival .

As mentioned above I have three properties there and NO I’m not trying to rent them out , I have already signed leased out contracts on two of them . The third property, I have donated to victims of the triple punch catastrophe , Earthquake , Tsunami and Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant , That is the basis of the story . Two real survivors (father and daughter) arrive in Washinomiya .

If a gang of you want to collaborate and story board this to start off with . HIT MY PM BOX.

    On Sci-Fi?
    Me too.
    Remains my favourite anime movie.
From there I got interested in all things japanese and takeshi miike movies, and better ones.
    TV Anime came after that.
    I don't read manga.
