Here's a place for all our anime and manga enthusiasts to tell us a bit about themselves and their love for the mediums! Post a picture if you want - t'would be handy for recognising people at cons etc.

Well my name is Sinéad, I'm 20 years old and a student of Trinity College Dublin. My first anime was Pokémon but the one that got me hooked was Dragonball Z. My favourites are Neon Genesis Evangelion and Sailor Moon <3

So yea, I love all things Japanese, the interwebz, music and a bunch of other random things. Oh, and I'm vegetarian, OM NOM.

Here's mise (with the brown hair) - feel free to say hello if we ever cross paths!

You did the right thing. Trinity has great food made mostly of meat and generally covered in curry.

Hi, I'm Alan and I'm 23, and I'm a graduate from Athlone IT. I have a Mechatronics degree which I think you'll find is essential to the line of work I am applying for...

    Oh wait.

Let's start again. I'm Alan, I'm 23. Just lost my job and about to start a new one. My first Anime was also Pokémon (shock horror!). My fave Anime's from all time are: Azumanga Daioh, Code Geass, Cowboy Bebop, Elfen Lied and anything by Studio Ghibli.

I went to Toyko a few years ago and fell more in love with the culture than I did before. I play the drums when I'm not working/on boards.ie, I mainly play the music I love (alternative/indie), but I'm working on some jpop/jrock group projects possibilities. I also play a bit of bass and guitar. I love video games. I'm a romantic at heart, I'm a dreamer :o

    Oh, and here's me
    120625.jpg

EDIT: Also, I'm colourblind, I don't know which one you are Hotaru :P

Ah I'm dying to get to Tokyo - damn you unemployment and college expenses! Some day :D

Drums yay! Play in a band or just for your own entertainment? Learning drums is on my list of things to do

Oh, and I'm the one on the left! Making the peace sign.

Anime & Manga meet in 2 years in Toyko yeah? :P

Used to play in a band when I was in college. Responsibility dug in and grabbed a job once I graduated so have had little time. Will get more time as I'm moving with this new job, closer to some other ex band members :)

Just vegetarian or a total vegan btw? I have a friend who calls herself a vegetarian, a vegetarion she is not

For sure - best place to have an Anime & Manga meet after all :P

I'm just a vegetarian, although I'm also dairy free at the moment. So apart from eggs and the odd bit of milk, I'd be a vegan :p Hope to go the whole way some day!

My name is Fíona! I'm 23 and have a Media degree but not having luck getting the job of my dreams so still stuck in Tescos..... :(:(:( Shall be doing a masters in TV and Radio Broadcast Production tho, so fingers crossed!

Love anime and manga, tho I am one of those weirdos who prefers manga.....

First anime I watched was Outlaw Star eons ago :pac:

Favourites are numerous; D. Gray-Man, Cowboy Bebop, Ikki Tousen, Zombie Powder, Negima, Tsubasa...... I'll try any genre once!

This is the most recent pic of my manga that is from a year ago, so I have amassed quite a few more since then, but they just look lovely and neat here!

    5068_1192371728760_1212399433_903635_1455714_n.jpg

Really love cosplay. Only really got into doing it myself the last 2 years tho. So far I have Soi Fon from Bleach and Ayane from Dead or Alive under my belt. Aya Natsume from Tenjho Tenge is next. Here's a pic of me with my wig that I acquired for her:

    DSC01716.jpg

Also enjoy combining my 2 fave things - anime and tattoos. So far I have a moogle on one ankle, Kon from Bleach on the other, Sakuya from Okami on my back and Kanu Unchou from Ikki Tousen on my leg :D and traditional cherry blossoms on my ribs. I still want MOAR!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,164 ✭✭✭Konata

Wow, those are some fantastic tattoos! Love how they're anime/manga inspired :D

That's A LOT of manga  Very impressive!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,561 ✭✭✭✭Varik

No picture of the moogle or Kon, you would have a large selection of moogles from all the games interesting to see what you picked, i'll take a guess that it's Lulu's weapons in that is looks like a doll.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 997 ✭✭✭tread_softly

I have photos of them, but they're a bit blurry, too lazy to take new ones!!

    Here's Kon:
    2550_1121265431147_1212399433_729717_2951656_n.jpg

The moogle I chose was from a fanart. I love it, he's sleeping.....

    2550_1121264111114_1212399433_729715_2794952_n.jpg

All of mine bar my leg were done by Mark in Wildcat in Stephen's Green. He's since moved to Sligo so I am without a nearby artist!!

Kanu was done by the fabulous Jacqueline of Yonge Street Tattoos in Toronto. I'm so annoyed though, I want Chou'un Shiryuu on the same leg next and will only have Jacqueline do it, so I'm trying to persuade them to come over for the Dublin Tattoo Convention! They can't make it this year, so I'll keep pestering. If that doesn't work, I'll be saving up for another trip to Canada!

Ok well I will introduce myself. Many of you know who I am from Eirtakon and just around. For the ones who don't know me, I am Amy, 25 years old and is the Cosplay Coordinator for Eirtakon and have been for the last four years me thinks.. and I love it.

Like tread_softly I really enjoy cosplaying and it is a very passionate hobby of mine. I started cosplaying back in 2006 because I simply loved dressing up and found it a very fun experience going to my first anime con seeing people in costume. I find cosplay brakes the ice. Always at a convention I will be in cosplay. I also love doing creative things, putting parts together for a costume and I plan an making dreadfalls for cyber goth cosplays. I really like alternative culture, be it Goth, Cyber punk/Goth, Gothic Lolita and Steampunk. I also like a lot of Japanese culture. I don't give myself a label though as I just dress on how I feel.:P I like many animes and need to get back into reading manga. I am also known as Butterscotch on the Eirtakon forums, figure.fm and on Danny Choo's blog.

Here is an updated "normie" photo of me wearing the Brocon staff t-shirt. It was taken in our hotel room while down at Brocon.

    IMAG_0018.jpg

Sorry for the long introduction. I am always meaning to type a short intro and it turns into an essay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 509 ✭✭✭Zen 2nd

How to introduce myself :o Well I'm Matthew or Matt or Mat(t) or whatever you generally want to call me. I also go by the nickname Zen 2nd on a lot of forums and its my Xbox Live Gamertag and for PSN its Zen2nd :) . I'm 23 years old and I'm just recently a fully qualified software engineer

The first anime I saw was probably Pokémon and then saw Dragonball Z on Cartoon Network and that got the ball rolling really. Started to look in town for more anime DVDs to buy. I was able to find a few, at some ridiculous prices. Was buying NOIR in Forbidden Planet but wasn't able to complete so went to PLAY.com and well after that, my purchasing of anime exploded!! It was so cheap :D

So lets see an actually photo of me hmmmm let me see if I can find one when I am posing with that look like I am staring into the distance. This one meets those standards I think. I usually don't wear my glasses that often, thought I'd make myself look intelligent :D

    2r4kge9.png

Also I love to cosplay. I've done 3 so far, one per year for each year of Eirtakon.

Eirtakon 2007 MkII: Kakashi - Naruto
Eirtakon 2008: Ichigo (Semi Hollow) - Bleach
Eirtakon 2009: Zero - Code Geass

    642fwi.jpg

and now onto my collection :pac:

I think it should be just left to the photos alone lol

    2qis83o.jpg

There is one figurine that isn't included among the collection as I got it after the photo was taken but I have a separate photo of it here :D If you have watched Hellsing or even read the manga you won't have any problem recognising the character :)

    euoxup.jpg

And just the other day I got my hands on the Sword Cutlasses from Black Lagoon. I'm an airsofter so these are a welcome addition to my collection :D

    iy3r5l.jpg

So yeah I think that's about it haha

    Hello.

I'm Seán. 22. Been a computers student in DCU for far too long, not finished yet. Currently doing an internship in Holland.

    Recent-ish photo of me I had on-hand.

    mugshot.jpg

I'm a big nerd who likes to play games. Board games, toy soldiers and rpgs socially, good single player computer games at home.

Watched lots of bad anime on RTE 2 growing up, and on Cartoon Network before it all got pulled over to some digital tv station. Collected the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex DVDs and lots of manga. Joined the anime society in DCU and realised that there was a lot more of this stuff I'd been missing out on.

I like a lot of anime. Mainly good action, sci-fi, bit of mecha. Those really good shows that occasionally come out of Shaft! that don't really fit in a genre. Anything that's good quality animation with an interesting story and well rounded characters is good in my book.

Got involved in Eirtakon back when it started. Was even con-director a couple of times. They really will let any hack do that job.

Can't really think of anything else to say, but I'm sure I'm forgetting a thing or too.

Just two things before I finish.

Number one, I hate the anime you like.
And number two; The original manga was a lot better.

Number two is almost always true. ;)

Well I guess I should introduce myself (I don't post so much, yet on the offchance that I might).

I'm Katie, 20, from Cork, just finished first year of uni in Italy (graphic design, hated the course so might not be returning). I guess that I'm a fairly mainstream anime nut: my favourites would be Noein, Studio Ghibli stuff, The Girl Who Leapt through Time, Paprika, Ghost in The Shell, Neon Genesis Evangelion etc. Nevertheless, the Twelve Kingdoms was epic (in both the true and false meaning of the word), and Rumbling Hearts: The Eternity you Desire, was compelling to watch, in a soap opera kind of way.

I like to dye my hair strange colours, so here's me with blue hair (Kaname):

    blue_4.jpg

    And with purple, like...Mokoto Kusangi?

    violabirra.jpg

(With a huge pint of Beamish, lest it be forgot :) )

Also, tread_softly, I'm in massive awe of your tattoes and anime/manga collection!

    Anyway, Hi... and Bye!

    Jumps on the bandwagon

Hi all, I'm Ger, 21 yold 4th year engineer in Trinity. I like games, both board games and the other kind.
I took up anime because most of my gaming friends watch it, though I'd watched Bebop and GitS on that Sky channel beforehand.

Taste wise, I spend most of my time watching what others say I should, though I tend to enjoy Slice'o'life or romances the most (Tatami Galaxy, Crest of the Stars, Bakemono, Clannad).
My DVD collection generally consists of siblings noticing I like anime and buying me a generic anime DVD they know I haven't watched, and my manga collection is also quite limited, my anime collection stands at 250GB.
I've yet to hit an anime convention, but I'm gonna head out to eirtakon, I'd say.

I'm not much of a poster either, though i would like to hit a convention at some point, maybe do an edward elric cosplay :)

I don't really buy anime and manga, i'm not really hardcore like most people here, but I adore Full Metal Alchemist, especiall the original anime run, imo, one of the great works of fiction of our time. I also like Narto Shippuden, Studio Ghibli stuff, the original Street Fighter anime movie. I'm watching D Gray Man atm, seems okay, not amazing 13 episodes in, getting better though... Oh yeah, Bleach is awesome too

I'm a big science, Street Fighter and guitar nerd, even though i'm not particularly gifted at any of the three!

I don't have a digital camera atm, these are the only pics I could find

    DSCF1629.jpg

no awesome tattoos, cosplays, or extensive anime/manga collections, I'm super casual!

I'm Sinead, 27, vegetarian (go us, Hotaru!) events manager for Nom-Con but besides that a rather boring person. I'd love to post a normal picture of myself here but I'm far too vain for that kind of thing, so here's me as Princess Peach.

Thanks! I'm toning it down seriously for Nom-Con though, i need to be able to move around and that costume was like having a cage wrapped around my legs DX

I'm going to be cosplaying Nurse Joy instead, which is doubly cool because I'm in charge of first aid. I'm kind of worried people will deliberately injure themselves to get a good picture!

you could go with the 'ole poké trainer! I did that for a con before, takes about 10 seconds!

Also Icarian like your choices in anime, similar to mine! you should watch the second run (the original story line) of FMA it's pretty good too. Death note too thats also amazing!

Back on topic I'm not that big of a anime and manga guy but reading/watching more.

Favs: FMA, bleach and death note

Yeah, I started watching Brotherhood too, it's pretty amazing too, but so far I think i prefer the original run. It's started deviating pretty hugely already, especially with the homunculus roles, and the new Xing cast. It's not quite as well paced as the original, but still great characters, great stories and believable world.

I've been hearing alot of good things about Death Note, guess I should ceck it out!

They had to speed through things that were common to the original, this is the FMA that was meant to be.

Havent been on here for a while, congrats on the moddage Hotaru :)

I'm Michael, 23 years old and work as a Records Management Analyst for a recruitment company. Originally from Wicklow i moved up to the big schmoke of Dublin about 4 months ago. I'm an avid fitness enthusiast; being interested in Weight Lifting, Olympic Lifting, Athletics, Powerlifting & Gymnastics. I plan on taking up Muay Thai and/or other martial arts soon too :). Im a big nerd when it comes to gaming, my first console was a Commodore 64 when i was a wee lad and more of an avid PC gamer than a console gamer. I also enjoy cinema/movies, music, history, languages, physiology & nutrition.

I first was exposed to Anime at around 5 years of age with watching Akira (what a mindfcuk! i still don't get that film even now!) and then other Manga published Anime such as Street Fighter:The Animated movie, Devilman, Vampire Hunter D, AD Police etc (even bigger wtf's watching all that as a kid! :D). I continued to watch these types of Anime until i came across Gungrave, which was what started my interest into watching Series instead of movies & OVAs. I like alot of the older stuff mentioned above but particularly like Gungrave, Full Metal Panic, Black Lagoon & Studio Ghibli Movies also.

I plan on going back to college again next year to study Applied Languages and Intercultural/Translation studies with Japanese & German. I visited Japan last summer (with other fellow boardsies like Johnny_Ultimate) for 5 weeks and backpacked around the country, visiting places such as Kyoto, Osaka, Takayama, Beppu, Hiroshima etc. Gathering all the experiences i encountered while i was there is why i want to hopefully further my education related to Japanese Studies,Language & Culture.

If anyone would like tips regarding travelling around Japan feel free to drop me a message ill be glad to help :)

    Some pics of my mug:
Getting ready to pilot the Gundam in Tokyo's Odaiba Shiokaze park :D. I'm glad i actually got to see it before it was dissasembled.
