    I wouldnt say never

Unless the place is totally in the crapper there are going to be some opportunities there (albeit restricted to a select few perhaps) Plus the cost of living is often considerably lower in such places. During the Celtic tiger bubble years there were Irish people working in Eastern Europe. I moved to NI myself at a time when the conventional wisdom was that I was insane to do so.

Yeah fair enough. A lot of people who consider them selves temporary immigrants go to richer countries to save capital. The idea is to live like cr*p for a while - 5,6 to a house. And then go home richer. Not possible in a poorer country. For permanent immigration it is a different kettle of fish.

just the way you put it. 'Technically'...

Technically I did, Technically Northern Ireland is in the UK and technically I dont have any problem with the fact because technically if I did I wouldnt have moved here (Technically or otherwise)

Now can we stop technically derailing the thread please.

I left the UK 7 years ago and would never think about moving back unless things changed, which they wont.

4 most important thing for me - Liberty, Freedom, Democracy, Justice. although FF have tried to destroy democracy Ireland are still scoring way higher on the others.

Is a shame I was born a 'commoner' and 'subject', both labels were used on sky news this week.

And as if they were reading my post across the water..

I had a job back home, but an opportunity came for me to move over to London with my friend as she got a job here. Been here for 3 months now and I love it - so much to see and do. I got a great job within 6 weeks of getting here and am settling in well so far.

London/UK isn't for everyone but I never thought I'd ever move here and don't regret it for one second. The economy here isn't great either at the moment but there are definitely more jobs on offer.

I'm not saying I'll be here forever, but for now it's where I want to be. I keep up with the news from home every day and the discussions on boards so I don't feel too far away.

I say best of luck to anyone who decides to move here.

I wanna move somewhere next year. Thinking of either Canada, Colombia, Argentina or Brazil. Might consider the US. Somewhere with a shít load of storms in the mid west. I've got a US green card so don't have the hassle of jumping through hoops.

Are there any Irish are heading to the UK but not London? Anyone heading to the rural areas like East Anglia/Home Counties/West Country etc or is everyone here just London bound?

Well, your best bet of getting work is in London but I used to live and work in Manchester. Had a great time there but prefered life in London. Hope to move back to London in about 12 months when my contract here in Dublin is up. I see little point in staying in Ireland.

I wonder what the breakdown is of people going to the UK, Australia, Canada, US etc is? I hear a lot of people wanting to emigrate to Australia and NZ but surely not everyone can get into there? People make it out that it's really easy to get into but is it?
