Wow, seriously considering a visit... But do they have the Kwak glasses?

Yes they do but I have a feeling that the Kwak on draught is gone.
Will report back after a brave reccy.

In London tomorrow - hopefully will have a chance to sample a range of stuff.

I also have an odd craving for some Sam Smith pure-brewed lager. http://www.merchantduvin.com/pages/5_breweries/samsmith_pure_brewed_lager.html

    Where abouts will you be?

I quite like The Red Lion in Soho (14 Kingly Street). A simple and atmospheric Samuel Smith pub, and characteristically cheap too.

Have two bottles of sierra nevada porter, a bottle of Stoodley Stout and something else in the fridge.

Anyone wanna tell me what to expect from the sierra nevada porter?

Halfway through the second bottle of the Sierra Nevada Porter and it's a lovely brew. One of the nicest porters I've had in a very long time. Will fill the void my beloved Black Butte has made in my life rather well untill I next get back to the states.

Def my favorite beer from the Sierra Nevada brewery so far, absolute cracking little beer!

They're fairly generic yellow fizz. Baltika, incidentally, is indirectly and through no fault of its own the reason Beamish was closed down.

Though that might be the case all right, hence why they were on special. What's the story behind them getting Beamish closed down?

Starting to try out different beers these days after being a Heineken lover (is that a sin in here?) all my life, any recommendations? Apologies if that's a constantly asked, annoying question.

Russia was one of the few growing beer markets.
Carlsberg wanted the biggest Russian brand: Baltika.
Baltika was owned by Scottish & Newcastle.
Beamish was owned by Scottish & Newcastle.
Carlsberg couldn't afford Scottish & Newcastle.
Carlsberg struck a deal with Heineken to buy Scottish & Newcastle and split the cost and results.
    Carlsberg got Baltika.
    Heineken got Beamish.
Heineken Ireland realised that there was no point running two breweries in Cork.
    Beamish RIP.

I'd only drank their Plae and IPA before but I'm more of a dark beer man really. I tend to prefer stouts alright but my favorite beer in the world is a porter.
I'll buy a few bottles of each today and give them a lash tonight, sure it never hurts to experiment.

Still have the bottle of stoodley's stout to get through, sounds decent from reviews i've read.

Could you describe the stout (Sierra Nevada) to me?

From what I remember its all roasted caramel malt along with the usual coffee flavours you would expect with a stout but with a decent bang of earthy hops to go along with it!! I remember being impressed with the Porter until I tried the stout!!!

I didn't like the Porter, but I thought the Stout was fantastic: lovely big dose of hops.

Picked up a few more O'Hara's Irish PA's good to see it more readily available and a firm favouritre of mine these days. Also a Leann Folláin

    Maredous Blonde

    White Hawk IPA
Red Tail Ale (both by Mendocino Brewing Co)

and I splashed out on a Innis & Gun Rum Cask ... The plain Oak Aged was nice so I hope this is not too sweet because of the rum. I'll find out tonight though :D

Currently in Barcelona. Picked up a gift pack of Legado de Yuste. Can't understand any of the writings on the bottle but tastes a little like Smithwicks but it's a bit stronger I think

Oops. Augustiner Bräu Dunkel . Really is good stuff. Shame I only have 1 bottle.

So after having this lovely beer last week I decided to try another Dunkel , this time it was Erdingers Dunkel ! Well its like a total different beer.
Erdinger version is very carbonated to almost soda stream levels which I am not a big fan of to be honest.
There is a slight malt taste but the carbonation gets in my way all the time and cannot enjoy it.
Will look for more dunkels though as I am sure this is just a blip.

It's a different style. Augustiner Dunkel is a dark lager; Erdinger is a weissbier. "Dunkel" just means dark, and you can make a dark version of anything.

I will be starting my weekend off nice. Just picked up a case of honey brown lager. Priced pretty reasonably and its been awhile. Its a really tasty american lager and is real smooth.

Miller's hardly exceptional beer, but it'll do quite nicely when a friend you haven't seen in ages pops round with a crate. ^_^

Why not ask your friendly publican to get something in for you? - tell him/her that you'd go to the pub more if there was something you liked to drink.

Tried a few beers i'd never tasted.

Baltika no 3 lager - It was average. Very average. Im not a huge fan of lagers anyway.
Kilkenny - bland creamy ale with a stoutish foam.

Starting tonight off with some Budvar before moving on to some more interesting American (Brooklyn) and Belgian beers with an early thanksgiving dinner in Cork.

Had the Innis & Gun Rum Cask last night.

have to say not really a fan and it has more to do with the Rum finish than anything else. Ahh well at least I can say I tried it.

Had an O'Hara's IPA which is as good as ever and also a Leann Folláin stout which for me was only so so.

Watchin Ireland taking on the ALl Blacks and it is a cracking game so far.

Had a Red Tail Ale in hand earlier which was grand ... better than most English ales but not overly exciting at the same time.

On to the White Hawk IPA now and much better for me ... a bit of sweetness fruit through the bigger "dry bitter" which is a nice contrast.

Having a Fyne Ales " A bitter pale ale". Very easy and light on all accounts. Slight hop taste and quite crisp.

Im currently enjoying a Philadelphia Pale Ale by the Philadelphia Brewing Co. Its made about 4 blocks from my house and every beer of theirs is awesome. Nothing beats a small independant brewery

drinking a Sierra Nevada Stout with my lunch on the recommendation of a few posters and honestly its a great beer but I think I prefer the S.N. Porter... Not by much but just about, it's nowhere near the Anchor Porter I've been drinking for the last few days which is just an amazing beer. I'd def drink this stout again but I'd probably go for the Porter ahead of it and wouldn't even think twice if the choice was this or Anchor Porter, that's the best porter/stout I've tasted outside of Oregon!
