picked this up today at Rage in fade st.
I'm going to try and support them , but having a look there , the prices are a bit higher than I'd like to pay.
five to nine quid for some of the (not that rare) SMS games , Meg games seem to be around the 8-10+ quid point , and 15 quid for some of the unboxed NES games.

..good selection though, so I'll probably be back again next time I have cash (sometime around 2015 at this rate..;))

Really? Factoring in shop rent versus the price of ebay after postage, the cost seemed spot on to me!

Hellfire is such a great game. Hard though. No pink bullets to be seen here. In fact a lot of the time I can't even see the enemy shots coming at me because of the colour pallette used.

Got a chance to play with the Vectrex again this evening and my god its an awesome piece of kit. If you have the means I highly recommend getting the VecMulti also, its so so handy having all the games on one cart. Currently loving Beserk and Spike's Water Balloons.
I tried taking some pics of it in action in the dark but they're a blurring mess, using the flash on the camera just blanks out the screen so that was no use either. Pics won't do it justice anyway but playing it with the lights out is something special. Cheers Cider for introducing us first hand to this amazing little machine. :)

Also need to find a permanent home for it out of reach of an inquisitive 2 yr old. :pac:

This neat little fella also came in the post, haven't had a chance to test it out yet though.

Check out the size comparisons with a Gameboy Micro and another Supergun. :pac:

Close to a ton delivered from spain I think, got it from ebay. Seller built it himself. Wouldn't be surprised if its just one of those Vogatek boards inside it. But it has a decent build quality, just trying to figure out how to get the controls working properly with my modded dreamcast sticks, he said it works fine with a NeoGeo joypad so we'll see. :)

Ebay and charity shops probably spoiled me , my comfort point for meg games is a fiver ;) still like I said I'm going to try and pick up something there when I can , just to support them (and, you know, actually get more gaming goodness ;))
Hellfire is excellent by the way , and a nice game to properly try out the sega power stick on.
picked up 4 consoles today , finally got to trade batari for the NES.
It's a bit finicky , it was giving a solid grey screen on boot for everything I threw at it , after a complete dismantle and rebuild it was still doing this ,but a quick reset now seems to start games up ,so I'm delighted :)
there was also a load of Atari 800 games he threw in so I'm chuffed with them as well.
    th_60055e82.jpg
There was a local sale of work here , so I nabbed two famiclones for 3 quid.
    th_929cf71c.jpg
    http://ultimateconsoledatabase.com/famiclones/console_tv.htm
ones a weird wondermega knock off ,Boxed and all , with 2 psx style joypads and and lightgun. They've nine pin atari style connectors , but dont seem to work with any other console I've seen. The games themselves are reskins of NES games and not really great.
The second one though is a lot more interesting
    th_458f8358.jpg

Its basically an Atari 2600 on a chip , with about a 100 plus games ;)
chopper command and river raid are the first two so its well worth the 1.50 :)

Oh yeah and my brother gave me his old xbox 360 , I'll need to do the Xclamp repair as the GPU is overheating but hopefully should have this working soon ;)

Visited Rage today and I was pretty impressed. Picked up a dreamcast (without cables) with two controllers for 20 quid. Pity it'll probably cost me the same amount to buy an av cable and vmu. Still cheap though.

Sorry to hear that man, was working ok for me when I tested it I promise. I guess they're just troublesome regardless.

Also picked up the Master System 1 from Luas Dublin so delighted with that!

ah its grand , they're a quarter of a century old so some tempramentalism is allowed!
I reckon its the lock out chip acting up (the solid grey screen is an indication of that I think) , like I said stick cart in , turn on , reset, seems to work fine for me now

All week I think, on a side note you might want to see if he's allowed on here anymore. I mentioned this forum to him on sunday, he said he had been banned for advertising.
At least then he could mention when new stock is coming in. He did say he has about 150 more games coming in soon, but didn't say for what systems.

afaik he wasnt banned for advertising , but he did have a thread closed.

my 2c is that while I dont want A&R turned into the "other consoles" section of adverts , the odd "heres the stock I have now" list from him would be ok , since places like rage are pretty beneficial to the retro scene in Ireland.
Also an A&R discount would be nice ;)
Also Also , Rage chap , if you see this post would you stick some prices on those loose SMS carts!!

Not 100% sure if it's open on mondays though. Haven't gone a week without buying anything in there yet, was in there yesterday and picked up a CIB copy of Blast Corps for the n64 and a cool gameboy bag for 9e and 5e respectively.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,753 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

I certainly didn't ban him, I asked him not to advertise here alright, but that was all, I think....
    Must check...

Nope, he wasn't banned, but the thread was closed as it was tantamount to advertising, but the thread was and is still readable, so if he wants to post store content I'm sure there is a suitable forum for him....

Perhaps it's something adverts can accommodate or something the category mods can think about, if he does indeed want to post stock and price lists on a store with such niche appeal.

Unfortunately it then may set a precedent for others to start using boards as a shop window, and then you may lose the authority to ban glorified spammers.

So, while existing users posting deals or a contact detail in the interests of telling others about bargains, put that in the bargain alert thread, otherwise keep the threads free of what is advertising, however helpful or welcome it may be.

Maybe a sticky detailing various retroshops and their contact details is in order?

Trick is, if he wants such a facility, or if users want it, ask the mods and we can look into the best solution.

Over in airsoft we have a paid retailers & sites sub forum. Any site or shop owner can pay boards a monthly fee to post their own thread with stock updates etc.

There isn't the traffic for a dedicated sub forum here, but it might be worth looking into as a model.

It was not cheap. Got it from ebay.com. Cost $41 and $14 postage. These may seem expensive but I have bid on at least 10 auctions and this is the cheapest I have got it for

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,261 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

You got an absolute bargain. Usually goes for about 180-200 dollars.

Really Persona 2 Eternal Punishment ???. I have been bidding for a few weeks and they have been going for roughly $70 to $100ish........

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,261 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Ah right sorry I was wrong. It used to go for around 200 dollars or more but I forgot it got rereleased after SMT: Nocturne turned out to be a big enough success. The extra copies must have driven the price down. Still a bargain and an amazing game to boot.

    Hi All

I picked up star wars for the nes and star wars racer for the N64 o ya and super mario all stars

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,753 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

I see the promos in store for the anniversary edition of Super Mario Allstars, I mean, who will be dumb enough to buy a game I already own, both on the Snes, the individual games on the GBA, emulated on every device I own capable of it?
Me, that's who, I will buy it all over again, just like I buy every version of Mario 64 and Zelda Oot no matter what system, no matter how many I already own!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,345 ✭✭✭landsleaving

Yep, me too, already have my copy ordered from Amazon. It'll go nicely with my red wii.

And my 3ds with 3d ocarina.

Nintendo clearly know their market :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 171 ✭✭dmcdante

Ya been looking at that to just to have for the collection the box it comes in looks mighty pritty :)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 53,261 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Anyone that wants an good investment should pick up the Red Wii pack that includes the mario anniversary game and has Donkey Kong built into it. The european version has all four stages in it apparently unlike the old NES version and I'd say it will be worth a pretty penny down the line.

The Mario anniversary wii doesn't actually have the anniversary game in it retr0, which is a bit ridiculous. I assumed it would but when I went to buy it I was fairly let down. Still handed my money over like the barinwashed consumer I am mind :p

And if they're releasing a version with the game included, be nice and just don't tell me!

I pretty much used that line on myself, it's gonna be worth loads someday, definitely.. No brain, quiet, I don't just want it because it's red. :pac:
