Trying to find info about how to get it working, this site http://www.vectrex.co.uk/ mentions the following:
Basically you use your PC to read/write to the microSD card, copy the game files you want to play, run a little application that arranges the game files onto the microSD card, and then insert the microSD card into the VecMulti

But it doesn't seem to say that that "little application" is?

    I read that alright.

There's a sticker with a link on the back of the cart. But it's a dead link -

    www.vectrex.biz/vecmulti.zip

/Edit - still haven't found a thing. Going to email Richard.

Just had a good look around, found that you're right, there is a loader program that organises the files onto the menu
Here is a site with a more detailed explanation,
    http://www.vectrex.co.uk/

Richard is pretty good at replies and will, fingers crossed, send you the needed file asap.

I see there is a few new games out for the Vectrex as well, Vec Fu and Sectris, Color Clash looks good too.

Try the Vecflash software, just to see what happens, apparently the official Vecmulti software is similar, well, you never know....
    Vectrex.biz is his hidey hole.

Looking at the readme for the vecflash it needs to have the vecflash cart plugged into the pc via the usb cable so the application can detect it. Although there is a men (menu?) file and patcher exe incase the roms don't match his menu he says, so not sure if you could just run the patcher against the bin files, pop them on the SD along with the men file and away you go.

Got the VecMulti this morning too, just no console to plug it into. :(

Quick update, emailed Richard and he sent me an alternative link that does work: www.richard.hutchinson.dsl.pipex.com/VecMulti.zip. Seems to come with all the game bin files already, kick ass!! Let us know how you get on o1s1n. :)

Tell Microsoft to f**k off making people work late, & to concentrate on making consoles that don't cook themselves :D Then you can enjoy your Vecflash this evening,.......... & sign on in the dole tomorrow :pac:

All my jealousy flooded to the surface just now, knowing you'd be playing your vectrexes later.

So lol at you having to work late.

Yep, I'm petty and pathetic, so what! :pac:

There's an easy way to remedy this.

Do we have Vectrex number 5? ;)

HAHA, genuinely made me laugh out loud :D

I was reading last night about people making shielding to stop the buzzing sound. Insane! Might as well put a raster based monitor in there too while they're at it!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

Indeed, it's so authentic having it there. It's a piece of kit from the 80's for God sake, why take away some of its failings? Sure rip out the Vector monitor while we are at it & mount a laptop screen vertically in it shall we? Eh, no thanks - I'm quite happy with vector goodness & poor shielding thank you very much!

Dying to see if your vecmulti works later, fingers crossed!

I will track you down, and take the Vectrex from your cooling, recently detached hand...
We do rescues of Vectrex's In Distress, there is probably a shirt, theme tune and infomercial on the way.
Like Dog The Bounty Hunter, but with less incest and spousal abuse.
    And no mullets allowed!

Why the hell would anyone destroy a Vectrex? I mean the vector screen is a thing of beauty and there's absolutely no way to emulate such a thing.

I could say the same about low-res CRT monitors, doesn't stop people tearing them out for lcd's.

I came *very* close to buying one but I've spent an obscene amount of money lately on game stuff, and Christmas is holding a gun to my head screaming 'presents Lands, you have to buy presents.'

It's not that the vec is too expensive, it's getting the flash cart and trying to source a few overlays and probably an extra controller. I can see it bankrupting me.

On the upside I don't think the IMF will want to take a vectrex to pay the naitonal debt, so maybe I should invest in one now. Or gold. Lots of gold.

    Oh well I'm out.

If that's the case then I'm doomed :(

Spent the evening playing the Veccy. The Vecmulti works and my god is it glorious. GLORIOUS!!! As I just say to Andrew76, make sure you format the micro sd to FAT. Mine wouldn't work first time around. It must have been NTFS. I formatted it then and it worked perfect.

The vectrex scales ..well I can't really say pixels, but whatever the hell you call them? vectors? anyway, the scaling, it's bloody amazing. You only see sharpness, resolutions and frame rates like that on HD sets. I can't believe this thing was released in 1982!

Just got the second boxed SNES I won on ebay. It's the SFII Turbo one, very pretty and all, but now I have to decide if I want both consoles. And if I don't, which one goes?

    Answers on a postcard...

Once the screen is ok man, controllers are replaceable (perhaps hard to find one but at least its only a component)...try ebaying for a vectrex tube :D Glad you got it

Which ever boxed console I have first dibs on the other one :)

If you have the mario world box you gotta keep that. It just screams original.

picked this up today at Rage in fade st.
I'm going to try and support them , but having a look there , the prices are a bit higher than I'd like to pay.
five to nine quid for some of the (not that rare) SMS games , Meg games seem to be around the 8-10+ quid point , and 15 quid for some of the unboxed NES games.

..good selection though, so I'll probably be back again next time I have cash (sometime around 2015 at this rate..;))

    Ah! Hellfire! On Megadrive!
I was going to call up when in town but didn't want to drag my son all the way over town, now I wish I did!
Anything there to entice me over to the south side of the city?
