Right so I've had a brainwave. I reckon we should start a sensible persons' political party (not affiliated with boards.ie or anything) but made up of members from on here whose contributions over the course of the recession have contained more sense than any of the drivel spouted by Dáil Éireann.

I reckon we could actually get a few seats given there's nearly half a million members on here.

What do we think? (And on a more serious note, how in the name of all that's holy does one actually start a political party here???)

We'd have to get more seats than the bloody greens, anyway.

Oh god no. Gingers would be respected, and be paid a ginger allowance of €10 a week should they wish to purchase hair dye.

If AH were in power we'd have a bunch of people in charge of economics and social issues who have no clue what they're on about, no education or background in the area they are charged with but seemingly have an opinion on everything and think they're experts in all areas.

So not much different than what we have now.

Right...Here are some policies...

Decriminalisation of marijuana
Taxing of all religious institutions
Low corporation tax
Huge tax on crap, unhealthy, fast food.
Overhaul of Health and Education systems using French and Finland models respectively.
No dole until you or a parent has contributed to the economy for 5 years.

Lower the tax on ciggies to stop black market: +1bn in revenue
Legalise weed and mdma (where everyone has to sign a contract before consuming it.) +3bn in revenue

Sign to ensure you're aware of the potential damages and health risks of mdma consumption. (An a$$ covering mechanism to stop the government getting sued.) Wouldn't apply to weed.
