Maybe they would! I'm guessing if I were a man, I might too! But I honestly think people are kidding themselves if they think your average sized 14/16 woman looks anything like Kelly Brook. And I do think Christina Hendricks is a bit thickset looking who only looks good in that same type of low cut, A line dress, I suspect she's actually quite hard to dress as she could look quite heavy.

Personally, I wouldn't want to look like either of them and am happier having a more active type of figure.

Keira Knightly is very attractive in a languid, elegant way. Her bones are beautiful. True, she does not look like the woman you see down the supermarket and probably comes across as inaccessible to a lot of men, but she is beautiful.

I do see Nigella as a fat woman now. She's put on weight. Her husband famously ate a diet of only eggs or something, very low calorie, for months as he was scared he was going to die of a heart attack, and doesn't often eat her food now!

I think the phrase is a combination of many things and generally a rather sad indictment of what the availability of fast food and greed has done to our figures as a nation, and of trying to make people feel better about themselves when they're uncomfortable in their own skins.
Ya ok thats true. But people seem to forget that curvy women like this do exist! I find it very hard to buy flattering nice dresses, and always end up buying the same type of dress. Because I'm "curvy". And I don't like how that word has come to be a polite way of saying fat now! I am a size 10-12, with bigish boobs and hips, but flat stomach. Most dresses size 12 have a gape in the stomach when i wear them. if a dress fits my boobs it'll be too big everywhere else. If it fits my hips I won't be able to zip it all the way up. I think clothes manufacturers have a lot to answer for.

I'd lay a bet that Kelly Brook is a size 8 anyway. Perhaps not across the boobs, but everywhere else.

I hate the phrase 'real women' -it's just a euphemism for fat. So is 'curvy'
Poor men are terrified to say these things but here we go! A few home truths!

If we're talking what's attractive to heterosexual men (and I think we are so fcuk off Gok **** with your bull$hit) most men don't like extremes of either thin or fat. Sorry thin and fat women but that's the brutal truth. They dont like bones and they dont like blubber. They like slim more than they'll admit though. But what they really like is slim with a decent bit of knocker.

Now this is unfortunate for two types of women, genuinely naturally thin and stocky. Neither of those body shapes can be changed. The rest of womenkind is fortunate enough to fall somewhere in the range men would find acceptably attractive, with a bit of effort most can/could look sexy. And thats what's important, looking sexy to men. Not very pleasing to ye olde school feminists but who cares really.

However, no body type (be it athletic, svelte, hourglass etc) has a monopoly on attractiveness. Although a generic slim woman is the least threatening/troublesome universally acceptable 'type'. (May not be everyones preference though) -this is where the FACE issue comes in.

It also depends on your face. Every so often there will be a sensation who 'breaks the mould' -Christina Hendricks etc. But if she had a plain face it doesn't matter how hourglass she was she wouldn't get a look in. People mentioned Nigella Lawson, gorgeous face but if she was like the back of a bus face-wise her body wouldn't matter. Her body is acceptable because she has decent norks a small waist and a pretty face. Most men would because of these reasons.

Same with very thin women at the other end of the scale, Kiera Knightly is maybe admired by women but if she was plain in the face she'd be nowhere as her body is not that sexy to men. They'll accept it because she has a pretty good face but if she was plain she'd be nowhere. She wouldn't get a mainstream p0rn deal for example. (Not that she'd want to but if we're talking what hetrosexual men find attractive look no further than p0rn)

It's about body and face. Also, within the range of size 6 to 14, hip to waist ratio is far more important to men than size.

Size really comes into play when the woman threatens to approach the same size/become bigger than their potential male partner. Men (as far as I observe) seem to be comfortable as long as they would be able to pick up the woman. There are exceptions of course but if people had their choice that's how it goes.

Generally if you want to know your perfect potential size partner height wise, look at your own brother or sister. Sorry peeps for that hideous thought but true!

From what I can observe men like a woman that makes them feel masculine, they will however occasionally forgive extremes if the face or breasts are exceptional.

Firstly, the notion of so-called 'real' women is just another hideous example of marketing wonk-speak, as Charlie Brooker would put it. It's nothing more than an idiotic media construct.

I'm annoyed, however, at the evaluation in this thread of women of all shapes, be it fat, skinny or somewhere in between only in terms of their attractiveness to men. I'll probably be scoffed at for being ridiculously naive here, but aren't these 'real' women, assuming they have a brain and a spinal cord, worth so much more than their...ehh..attributes?

Let me see...hmmm......NOPE!!! Been a woman for years and I can safely say the only thing that matters about us to men is how screwable we are!!! When we leave the room they don't say 'wow she's so intelligent/funny/talented' they say 'I'd hit it' or not! Sorry! ;)

The thread is about physical attributes so why would we start talking about anything else?

Of course it's marketing ... these days, marketing types only have to sniff a trend and they'll try and jump on it. There was one soap company a few years ago who made ads with "real women" - to them that meant not just weight, but blemishes, hair, and so on. Doesn't mean that there's nothing to it: professional models aren't just skinny, they have to look "tight": no cellulite, loose skin, etc. Of course real women are going to weigh more than that - and if you call a normal healthy weight "fat", then you're part of the problem.

There's one ad on TV at the moment for chocolate that features some Size Zero waif, all mascara and cheekbones, daintily nibbling at a bar ... a "real woman" would roll her eyes at the image and scoffed the whole thing down in 10 seconds, while I bet that model had her finger down her throat 10 seconds after the director shouted "Cut!"

Government resting upon the will and universal suffrage of the people has no anchorage except in the people's intelligence.

I think I've heard Colleen Rooney/ McLoughlin referred to as a "real woman" before. She isn't overweight and is very good looking but she nevertheless looks like a girl from an ordinary background. Maybe the social class a woman is perceived to be a part of goes some way towards helping people (subconsciously or not) decide who is and isn't a real woman.

Thats true but only really when you first meet a girl once you get to know her other things do become important. Although having said that a girl is attractive will be judged a lot easier on her personalty while an ugly girl on matter how interesting is really fighting an uphill battle that she probably won't win.

I wouldn't find her attractive as she is skin and bone, she is too skinny for a tall person IMO!

    She's about 5'7"...not *that* tall!

Yeah I've often heard heavier women use the "real woman" thing. Just to make themselves feel better I guess. But I 100% agree that some people will always be "curvy" due to their body shape. Same way that some people will always be super skinny. Sometimes diet and exercise just can't fix that.

    it's more

    Mate 1:

Wow, that thing never shuts f*cking up.

    Mate 2:

    I'd shut her up!!!

    Mate 3:

    Not again I wouldn't!!

We're far more creative than you're giving us credit for tbh.

Are guys actually proud of only seeing women that way and making jokes like that and acting like (or perhaps not acting) that's all that matters in a person?

I don't want to start anything, I'm just genuinely curious. Won't post in this thread after this so no worries about a row.

It's not like their isn't the equivalent quick judgement made by women on men.

A lot of women have a set standard of how successful a man has to be before they would start to find him attractive and as far as looks goes a lot of women would have a minimum height requirement.

All my lad mates have pretty much said that it comes down to either you would or you wouldn't and this varies from girl to girl. It's all down to personal taste in women.

Besides, a lot of men are into fake women, I've read about them!

    Who said this though?

I'm being honest it's obviously the first thing you judge a girl on but it doesn't stop there and you obviously take other things like personalty into account.

A hot girl will have an easier time appearing interesting than a ugly. The same way it's easier for a hot guy to be charming.

So I'm working from home this morning and Ireland AM is on in the kitchen. The usual old ****e on it with some fashion crap. But a certain phrase keeps being repeated "Real Women". So I turned around to see what sort of people these are, and guess what? They are overweight women!

This makes me laugh. If these are real woman, why are they not reading the news, presenting our breakfast programs etc. etc.

So, Real Woman, is this code for "Fat Women" ?

Please enlighten me! (and I guess they could do with some "enlightening" too):D
Yes, real woman are the big bloater types with the added bonus of bingo wings and a beer gut that flops over their gstrings.

If a man is being really honest he would do any woman.

been seen out in public and introducing a woman to your friends and doing her are entirley different.

if no one was going to find out mens standards aren't nearly as high as they like to think.

any woman is better than sitting on your hand till it goes numb so you can pretend it's someone elses :pac:

Liah if you have a problem with women being objectified then you really have a problem with all men as we all do it. If I see a girl in a band the first thing I will do is deicde if she's good looking, don't get me wrong even if she's not I will still appreciate her music but the first thing I judge her on is looks.

If I was watching the Olympics and the mens 100m race was I'd be interested in who's the most talented but the womens race doesn't interest me do I'd probably just see if any of them are good looking. It sounds bad but I promise it's something every guy does.

Even when I meet an intelligent girl who isn't good looking I think to myself it's kind of a shame she isn't.

All straight men think like this but most aren't dumb enough to say it out loud.

I don't think that's true, I have turned down sex even when the lads wouldn't find out. I just wouldn't enjoy it tbh but then again I'm really not that fussed about sex in the first place.

Even when I see a good looking woman I don't automatically think of sex I just like good looking women.

They say it out loud in front of their mates but really you kind of know there are certain things not to say around women. Men constantly tell women the opinions they want to hear because it's less hassle then the truth.

News flash most men would also shag a 16 year old but saying so isn't a good idea.

What men say to each other in a group and what they actually feel, are two different things entirely.

We might have a few mates that we would speak openly to, about what we actually like and don't like about a girl, but the truth is - when men say stuff to a bunch of other guys, it is generally just lighthearted and in no way should it be taken as the depth of what a guy is and isn't looking for in a woman.
