Because he was a Leinster player in 2009 and played in every Heineken Cup game including the final?

    Pretty basic stuff here..

I did read it and where did Jackman get this idea that Contepomi despised Munster and all they stood for unless he is quoting Contepomi or is Jackman lying?

Come off it. You initially thought it was Contepomi mouthing off in an article and upon being informed of your mistake are now trying to make it out like you meant Contepomi mouthing off to his team mates. It's as clear as day what your attempting to do. Jesus just admit (or don't but please dont drag this completely O/T trying to save your "internet cred") the mistake and move on its only the internet! People take it way too seriously these days its really weird :)

Where are the quotes exactly that you're talking about? I don't see a single quote attributed to Contepomi.

What's written there is Bernard Jackman giving his opinion on why Contepomi disliked Munster, O'Gara and Kidney. Nowhere is there anything that could be described as Contepomi "mouthing"

Hes realized his mistake and is now trying to make it out like he meant mouthing off to Jackman.

Either Contepomi said these thing to Jackman oir Jackman is making it up. BTW, the piece isn't accredited to Jackman either.

No I'm not, I'm accepting what is written originated from Contepomi,. Something that others seem to have difficulty with.

If Contepomi or the writer of the article makes it clear that they didn't originate from Conters then I'll willing withdraw my cooment aboiut him mouthing off. Until then my comment stands.

Don't want to be seen as back seat modding but do we really need to talk about Contepomi in a Munster thread about the current Munster team?

    Australia:
15 Peter Hynes (Reds), 14 Rod Davies (Reds), 13 Pat McCabe (Brumbies), 12 Anthony Faingaa (Reds), 11 Lachie Turner (Waratahs), 10 Berrick Barnes (capt, Waratahs), 9 Luke Burgess (Waratahs),
8 Richard Brown (Western Force), 7 Matt Hodgson (Western Force), 6 Scott Higginbotham (Reds), 5 Rob Simmons (Reds), 4 Van Humphries (Reds), 3 Salesi Ma'afu (Brumbies), 2 Huia Edmonds (Brumbies), 1 James Slipper (Reds).

Replacements: 16 Saia Faingaa (Reds), 17 Ben Daley (Reds), 18 Dean Mumm (Waratahs), 19 Pat McCutcheon (Waratahs), 20 Nick Phipps (Melbourne Rebels), 21 Matt Giteau (Brumbies), 22 Luke Morahan (Reds).

This is the side that will face Leicester on Tuesday.

Should be a similar side for Munster the following week.

Surprised that no-one has mentioned the Richie McCaw 2012 rumours.

Sorry if this question has been answered, I don't really look at this thread.
When is Peter Borlase expected to appear?

Think he's on his way now. Possibly making the squad for the Australia game.

There was a rumour last year from an apparently reputable source that Munster were in discussion with McCaw about bringing him over to Munster after the world cup to tie in with a possible Quinlan and Wallace retirement.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,770 ✭✭✭danthefan

A "good source" also pretty much announced the signings of George Smith and Tommy Bowe too, so treat with caution.

I'll believe McCaw coming to Munster when I see him running out at Thomond Park wearing the jersey.

If he does decide to come up north after the World Cup, he'd command probably the highest wage in world rugby.

Can't see Munster getting McCaw to be honest. Reckon he'll be France bound

Took the words out of my mouth id imagine any big players from the southern hemisphere would go to france for a big payday.

Can we have Pocock instead? :pac:

McCaw had a sabbatical built into his last contract and never used it, so it wouldn't seem that money is a huge motivator. And apparently he was very impressed with his visit to Munster when the ABs played there. Anyway, McCaw would have huge endorsements/sponsorship. I think he is sponsored by Adidas (just like Munster & Howlett).

Players like Doug Howlett & Christian Cullen were not attracted to the big money in France so its not fair to say its all about money. Lifestyle and he may have wife/kids to think about who may prefer an English speaking country.

By the way, the source that mentioned this just said that Munster had approached McCaw. It was the same source who knew about Borlase signing for Munster. I think they have a friend who has the inside track on Canterbury/Crusader players.

Howerya lads, I was on the ML website yesterday and saw a competition to win a pair of Leinster tickets and sure enough, got a call today to say that i'd won :D

I see today's competition lets you win tickets to Munster v Scarlets in Musgrave park so you may as well give it a shot if you'll be around cork.

He might be turned off by the significantly longer Top 14 season and may opt for a less demanding finale to his career in the Magners/Hcup. That said I'd prefer if he stayed away and some academy players were fast tracked into the team.

Hard to know, McCaw is one of the greatest All Blacks of all time, the things he could teach a young player would be worth his wages alone, imo.

Ultimately, it would come down to a few things imo, desire, financial, fitness. If NZ win the RWC, will he still have the desire to play high level rugby, he's obviously massively committed but can that committment be sustained after you've won what you've always wanted to win? Financial, hard to see how Munster could compete with french clubs but we have gotten top quality players before. Fitness, his body is a wreck imo, if he comes over, how long will he last? He's playing now because he's playing to win a RWC, imo, after the RWC he mightn't be willing or able to force his body to keep going.

    Really?
Who's the apparently reputable source behind this?

Don't tell him he'll only try to liquidate the source in the IRFU's best interest.

Why? are you upset it wasn't you?

There was a huge thread on munsterfans.com a year ago. The poster had correctly given information on a few Munster transfers months before they happened. I personally don't believe this particular rumour and was only answering the question of where the rumour orginated from so calm down.
