    Where did you hear that?
Only news I've heard here is about Jamie Cudmore. Nothing about Tuitoupou yet.

Sam T is going to be a big loss for the three weeks, especially with Earls lacking fitness.

Right, Munster are really stretched: tell me, just how is midfield going to shape up. Warwick would presumably be the natural attacking 12, but surely a Strings - Rog- Warwick - Earls 9-13 is too defensively weak. Deasy or Gleeson anyone? Are these guys up to this sort of level? I know Johne Murphy has played 13 well wnough, but they'll hardly put him at 12?

As a wild card, they wouldn't stick Wallace at centre a la Mauro Bergamasco or as that Leicester back row (was it Crane?) had to do once last season vs Ospreys? Hardly. Either way, Wally is going to have to be positively Dusatoir-like at the weekend...

Gleeson physically is up to it-he's what you describe as a good pro, will make his takles etc.I doubt at his age ( I think he's 25) that he's going to be an international but he won't let you down.Deasy (from his magners league performances last year) looks like a good footballer-good eye for a gap but maybe short of a yard of pace that would propel him into a starting place for Munster. As I said earlier haven't seen much of Barnes though he did well in the pre-season games last year I think.

Is Gleeson even available, I dont think he was named in either of the squads for this weeekend.

    To me the options are

    12 Deasy 13 Earls
    12 Barnes 13 Earls
    12 Warwick 13Earls
    12 Earls 13 Murphy

Personally id go for a backline of

    9. Strings
    10. ROG
    11. Murphy
    12. Deasy
    13. Earls
    14 Howlett
    15 Warwick

    21. Williams
    22. Barnes
    23. Hurley

-If Earls gets injured, replace him with Hurley and Murphy move to centre
-If Deasy needs to be replaced, swap Barnes straight in.

+1 to the above. I hope McGahan has the cojones to go for Deasy.

Will be interesting to see the Toulon team now, they've a real chance to win in Thomond if they put out a full team, particularly with their size.

And northampton thought they had a chance in the QF last year. Hopefully with flans and quinny back in the team we can get going places

Quinny was dropped. I'd be surprised if they put him straight back in this week. Maybe the bench.

Flannery has barely played in the last 12 months through injury and suspension. I would start Varley with a view to giving Fla 20-30 minutes.

+1 Flannery 20 mins max. I can see the mentality in bringing Quinlan back in as they'll surely play a ten man game against Toulon. I think he's close to being done to be honest.

The difference being that this Munster team is a hell of a lot worse than the one that faced Northampton. I wouldn't be surprised if Munster won, as it's still Munster, but they have some serious deficiencies to overcome.

    And drop who?

What does Quinlan actually do anymore? He just faffed about on the wrong side of rucks in the Leinster game, contributed nothing.

We must be watching two different people, the Alan Quinlan that I watch is still playing great rugby and has been Man of the Match in recent times - not bad for a 36 year old who plays on the edge! He may have slowed down in the last year or so but his presence will be sorely missed when he finally hangs up his boots.

Nice articles about him here. :D

Faffing around on the wrong side contributing nothing? Same could be said of your posts in this thread!

You obviously don't watch too much of Munster's games if this is your opinion.
Quinny was dropped for a breach of discipline (fighting) it seems last week, he could figure this week.

    + 1

Alan Qunilan has at times over the last year looked like the only fella on the pitch in a red jersey giving his all . . . .and has had some man of the match performances.

He is outstanding for a 36 yr old.

    Taken from Munsterfans: http://www.munsterfans.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=27027&TPN=8

    Toulon Squad for Munster game
    Forwards :
    Sébastien BRUNO
    Kris CHESNEY
    Joe EL ABD
    Laurent EMMANUELLI
    Jean-Philippe GENEVOIS
    Carl HAYMAN
    Mickaël IVALDI
    Davit KUBRIASHVILI
    Mehdi MERABET
    Olivier MISSOUP
    Christophe SAMSON
    Dean SCHOFIELD
    George SMITH
    Jocelino SUTA
    Saimone TAUMOEPEAU
    Joe VAN NIEKERK

    Backs :
    Fotunuupule AUELUA
    Thierry BRANA
    Felipe CONTEPOMI
    Mafileo KEFU
    Gabiriele LOVOBALAVU
    Laurent MAGNAVAL
    Clément MARIENVAL
    Pierre MIGNONI
    Paul SACKEY
    Jonny WILKINSON
    Rudi WULF.

So no Fernandez Lobbe. So the two Kolpak selections are between Smith, Contepomi (who will start if Saint Andre is believed) and Rudi Wulf.

Jonny is in the squad, he's not injured as first thought. There's a bit of politicing going on between Toulon and the RFU:

    Couple of points here
    1. Quinny has not been at his best partiuclarly against Leinster but it wouldn't surprise me if he is pacing himself for a long season ahead as he is 36 and will be called upon to play a lot of matches throughout the year(with irish lads gone and 4 more ML games this year). Even if he is not his wortha place on the bench if not on the team as Munster could have done with his nous last week. Coughlan to drop out uf squad by the way.
    2. Fla 20-25mins max. My money is on Varley to have a stormer at the wknd. When a hooker misses a few throws he's the worst player in the world and when he hits them, he could be the next Lions hooker!! Lineout is a collective with everyone having a role to play!!
    3. Don't think they'll play a ten man game, as I think they were quite good in the backs in certain parts just couldn't score! Hope they give Warwick or Deasy a run 1st centre!!
    4. The fans should not panic we have lost the 1st game in the group and still progressed through EVERY TIME even winning it in 2006 & 2008!! Finally stop critcising we're not the english press after all!!:D

    Team apparently (c&p from elsewhere):
warwick Howlett Murphy Earls Hurley ROG Stringer Leamy Wallace Quinlan MOD DOC Wian Varls Mushy..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

MOD did make an impact last weekend tbf to him.

I'd be very surprised if they go Earls at 12, although rumours also suggest that Deasy is a doubt.

Munster British & Irish Cup coach Anthony Foley has named his side for the opening match against Llanelli at the Waterford Regional Ground on Friday night (7.30pm)

    Munster:
Sean Scanlon; AN Other, Ivan Dineen, Troy Smith, Simon Zebo; Declan Cusack, Conor Murray; Dave Ryan, Sean Henry, Darragh Hurley; Dave Foley capt, Ian Nagle; Billy Holland, Tommy O'Donnell, Peter O'Mahony.

Replacements: Mike Sherry, Stephen Archer, Dave O'Callaghan, Paddy Butler, Paul Rowley, Gareth Quinn McDonagh, AN Other.

I wonder if the winger spot left open means someone is acting as cover for the HEC team.

Good luck to the lads, they got a good crowd at Waterford last year.

Warwick Howlett Murphy Earls Hurley ROG Stringer Leamy Wallace Quinlan MOD DOC Wian Varls Mushy

Team from hell. Get the garden hose out thomond and soak that pitch.

Team will be anounced later today - presume it is going to me Murphy and Earls in the middle - looking forward to seeing how this will go. Could be something special, or could be a leaking sieve starting at 10 and finishing at 13! We shall see. I have a pretty good feeling about this match, Munster by 7.

Quinlan is has been outstanding in some matches this year for Munster. His rugby brain is second to none and if SOB, Ruddock and McLaughlin become half the player he was, they will be going well.
