Its just gone live on the UK EPG but not the Irish, so I guess we can add it to another set of channels we cant have.

Its not enough that we pay more for our Sky subs but Irish Subscribers now loose out on

    BBC One HD
    BBC 3
    BBC 4
    Ch5
    Ch5 HD
    Five US
    Fiver
    CH4 HD
    ITV
    ITV2
    ITV3
    ITV3
    ITV1 HD
    ITV2 HD
    ITV3 HD
    ITV4 HD

I wouldnt mind but our beloved government transmit all our channels to the North and yet we get nothing in return except BBC 1 NI, BBC2 NI and BBC HD

Time to swap my Irish subs to a UK Subs.

so is BBC HD still on 143 or has it moved to 169 in line with the UK?

Thread title needs to be changed to say "BBC 1 HD NOT on Irish EPG"

Typical crap as usual though where ROI subscribers who pay more for each package actually get less for their money.

I thought BBC HD (which is still there on 143 I see) was to move to 169 though and BBC 1 HD to take that slot?

I'm seriously considering forking out the one-off/upfront cost of 2 Freesat HD boxes and cancelling Sky altogether at this stage as most of what's watched anyway is on FTA/FTV channels.

Darn ... I saw the thread title & thought it was a statement rather than a question :(

    title amended...

i think if anyone is considering ringing Sky over this, then they need to turn the screw pretty tight - because for most the freesat option is the way to go.

    Don't forget the +1 Channels.

Personally I don't see the logic of bringing our government into the frame as it has zero to to with them. Sky is private business not regulated by our Government, it's solely a customer relation issue with SKY.

Its not just a Sky Issue.

Northern Ireland get access to all our TV Channels, we get access to just BBC 1,2 Ch4 and BBC HD.

Sure Sky are ripping us off, but at the end of the day our Government dosent seem to mind giving NI everything and getting a few channels back in return.

I see no logic as to why Ireland cant have Ch4 HD and BBC one HD considering we are already getting their SD version.

@ irishfreeview - I agree with you somewhat with you on both of your points, I just don't see them as being related (sorry).

At the end of the day guys it's up to the BBC not Sky if they want BBC ONE HD or any of their other channels added to the Irish epg .

Sky only care about one thing and this omission from the EPG will not lead to cancellations. I for one would be pissed off it I lost the ability to record some programmes that were available via BBC HD.

Sky could always pay the BBC to place their BBC One HD channel on the Irish EPG, just as they do for BBC One and Two NI. Sky are overcharging Irish customers afterall. And they will continue to do so.

Yes Sky could pay the BBC to let them add BBC ONE HD to the Irish epg but as i said if the BBC don't want Irish customers to have any of their channels well i don't think Sky can do much about it.

Do you know for a fact that the BBC do not want their channels on the Irish EPG or are you speculating? They did afterall do a deal to allow BBC HD, BBC One and Two onto the Irish EPG.

Sky need to do the deal. The BBC could not care less about carriage in Ireland, until the offer of a few
quid to BBC Worldwide is on the table...

No i don't know for a fact that the BBC don't want some of their channels on the Irish epg but the fact that BBC3,BBC4 and now BBC ONE HD are not on the Irish epg can mean only two things either Sky haven't made them an offer so they can add them to the Irish epg or as i have already said the BBC don't want to make them available to Irish customers.

If they don't want them available in Ireland then why would they allow UPC to show the other channels?

These channels are not there because Sky will not pay BBC Worldwide to put them there.

I agree the chances are that Sky have not made an offer to BBC Worldwide to make these channels available on the ROI epg. All we can hope for is that some of these channels will appear in the near future.

    On the button there Minstrel......

The true reason BBC HD went on the Irish EPG was solely to attract new customers to Sky HD for the World Cup during the summer....

Sky wont do something unless they really have to, the robbing u know whats.

Ok so why are these channels including UTV, made available on Irish digital boxes via Cable with full epg (-bbc one hd)?

The answer as Minstrel has already pointed out is Sky - Sky is the issue.

the BBC cant pay for Carriage on the Irish EPG simply because we dont pay the UK TV Licence Fee.

if they did pay it would be deemed a waste of UK tax payers money.

I'll ask again then - why are these available on Cable here if thats the case?

Nobody is suggesting that the BBC pay for their inclusion on the Irish EPG. Sky should be paying the BBC just as UPC pay the BBC.

Whats gets me is that the channels are available as other channels, thats UTV, Five and now BBC One HD.

Why cant SKY just enable us to be able to record other channels? That would be such a great selling point.

Or I would be happy to pay an extra €5 per month to have the full range of UK Channels with record facility.

Apart from ripping us off Sky are also missing out on extra reasons to make more revenue.

For adding bbc1 hd in other channels. Hopefully it'll be on epg soon.

    Frequency: 10.84700 GHz
    Vertical polarisation
    Symbol rate: 22.0 Mbaud
    FEC 5/6

Because UPC pay BBC Worldwide (their commercial arm) for carriage.

How come Sky don't I wonder....

Because they don't have to. They are the biggest TV provider in the country, and are not losing subscribers in large numbers because of this. So, they are just saving themselves a few quid. Same reason they don't align UK and Irish pricing. They are just making too much money from it.

Don't think there is, they just couldn't be bothered because they won't make money by adding them.

For the record I completely disagree with that comment.
