There has been a lot of talk here re people on a panel who are waiting for the call up et cetera. People who have passed the initial test, medical et cetera and have basically passed everything and are just waiting for the call. Someone even mentioned that AGS would'nt be putting people through another medical if they had allready previously passed a medical.
However, surely there must be an expiry date on such medicals? I think AGS would be very foolish if they appointed someone who had passed a medical say 1-2 years ago. People can and do develop conditions even that they may not be aware of. Conditions which may deem a new entrant unfit for service. From a legal point of view AGS would be putting themselves on thin ice by appointing someone who did not pass a recent medical exam. If indeed AGS do keep the people on a 'wait list', I would imagine it's probable that AGS would put an expiry on medicals and require such persons to have repeat medicals.

A letter from their G.P. will sort that out. what stage are you at?

There has always been a 6 month expiry on medicals. A lot of people have had to do them in the past after they were waiting longer than 6 months. For some reason, becase there has been so many people waiting for so long now, they are probably trying to save money by not redoing them.

I have been waiting for a medical for the last 2 years. I asked them why they hadnt called me for a medical and they said it was because it could expire. I then questioned them about the people on the panel with medicals completed not having to redo them and he said this wasnt set in stone. So I would fully expect everyone to redo the medical stage.

I'm just an observer! I'm very intrested in the forum here. I'm to old for AGS! But am off to Oz next month and hope to apply to the Police (NSW Police) there.

Yes. I'd imagine there would probally have to be a 6 month expiry on a medical. I do happen to know that (re military medicals) that if a candidate passed a medical/physical and say was not appointed until several months later that they would have to undergo a 'mini medical' just prior to appointment just to make sure the candidate remained physically/medically ok for service and also (for the employer) to cover themselves!

there are over 10,000 persons registered on publicjobs.ie for the next up and coming campaign. Assuming (and i don't like to assume, but lets be realistic) they are only looking for a couple of hundred recruits maximum, this is going to be hard for everyone.

Does anybody know, before the moratorium, if u were succesful in your appitude test, how long was it before you would be called for the interview stage? Maybe somebody could let me know?

1 to 3 months depending on your rank and batch.

Also, on Claytons point, they don't just recruit to a certain number on a panel, once you pass your aptitude and interview your file is handed over to AGS for med and PCT. They might only be having small intakes but they could get 5000 through to the med and pct or maybe only 100 could make it.
It all depends on how many are good enough to get through, not a certain number.
So you wont get a better type of applicant or anything this time around, just people that are cut out to be a Garda in the eyes on public jobs and AGS.
(There are closer to 20,000 showing interest but remember some are only registering due the the hype in the press when it was announced and the recession. Not all of these want the job or will continue)

from what iv been told by a previous successful applicant, they have a set number that pass through the aptitude test say for example a few thousand, so that means the top(whatever the number is) go through to next stage hence the more people the harder it is to get through. im pretty sure it isnt based on a certain pass level ( unlike the interview/pct ) , if this was the case there would be thousands being put forward for interview. iv always been told the aptitude is the competitive part and thats where they cut down the numbers to a chosen level so no matter how many apply the amount getting through to interview will not be far off that of previous years.the last thing they want this time round is another backlog of candidates waiting to get in.. the only reason there might be a slightly higher standard of applicant is because of the competition at the aptitude test. . sorry if i have put anyone to sleep with this:D

Will not having a drivers license stop people being able to apply>

What are your thoughts on this?

I don't think they will make it an official requirement.

They wouldn't even a new recruit driving, would they?

    That's exaclty right thekopend.

At the apptitude level they set a pass fail level (which can vary depending on the level of all candidates). From this all candidates are ranked with the people who scored highest being interviewed first.

The interview, medical and PCT are all pass fail and it is entirely down to the candidate themselves whether they get past this stage (and does not vary depending on the quality of the other candidates).

Again, your ranking on the panel to be called for each of these phases and the final call to Templemore is based on your performance in the aptitude test. Hence the importance on doing well at this stage.

Well guys today is the day of which the last accelerated batch passes out of the Garda College in Templemore. It's probably the last pivotal point for an announcement for Garda Recruitment 2010. Hopefully the evening news will bring a much welcome boost.

Is there not another group to pass out in February?
I wouldn't be too worried if nothing is mentioned today, an announcement could happen any day, doesn't have to be at a big occasion although it does help for publicity if it is.

    Sorry Ruairi,
I thought all the recruitment over that period was part of accelerated recruitment, seeing there was only 3 months between each one and everyone available at the time of the call were called in.
Not even worth the bickering, but thanks for the date.

    Thanks for the update,

Am getting a little concerned as I'm nearing the maximum age limit to join an see from earlier notes some candidates have been on a waiting list for nearly 2 years....

Would anyone know, if the age limit (35yrs) is reached whilst a candidate is on the waiting list, is that candidate then barred from joining?

    Many thanks

I hate to say it but I think we can forget about an announcement.. the only story from Templemore is that the Commisioner said action will be taken on probe into Anglo fiasco by year end.

    Fup it anyway.

You have to be within age limits on the date you apply, not register. There are 1 or 2 people that are on the panel that are now over 35 but will stay on the panel due to them being within age limit at time of application process.
If you are over age when application opens then you cannot apply.

Thanks Da Flash for the update.... seems I've to be paitient and await hearing from PAS.

Does anyone know if there has been a previous problem were a candidate is on the max age limit (35yrs) for applying to Guards but has been left on waiting list.......... does the candidate become barred from joining or does the candidate join as the application was made at 35yrs of age....

    I appreciate any comments,

    P.S. - I'm not 35yrs

Just answered that for you on last page, once your eligible to apply and make the panel you will be kept on the panel till your are recruited.(within reason anyway)
