Got onto UPC today and got through very quickly! Wow! Anyway the girl was aware of this problem - even the Silver MediaBox that I have. So she guided me through the Menu there and then, imputting the codes for Factory Restore settings. This I did as she told me what to imput. Then was asked to check channels to see if they were in sync with the Hi Fi sound. Well no - the same problem still existed and exists now. So it would seem talking to her that it does work most times and they also keep an eye on the problem and the signal going into the box - should it re-occur.
The technician is coming out on Wednesday morning so will keep you posted.

We're having similar problems. We are on our third (!!) HD box - the black one pictured two posts ago.

The navigation is glacial and frequently freezes altogether - turn off at the back of the box, restore factory settings etc at least every two weeks. As I said we have had the box replaced a few times already, driving us demented. The guys replacing the boxes more or less told us the boxes were cheap pieces of crap and it is pot luck on whether you get a good'un or not.

We are in an apt. so cannot get Sky, otherwise UPC could kiss my ass goodbye as a TV customer. Having said that love love love their broadband.

The latest update is: the visit on Wed. last was the Technician. He tried everything, including, Factory Settings and then Direct signal to TV. Still failed. Said it was a signal problem, or software in Silver Box. Didn't have a spare one in Van. So said would get back to me - took phone no's etc. Friday contacted Service and they told me he had signed off on problem as was fixed.
So, another appt. for yesterday, Monday. Same problems, no solution to the Silver Box. In the end, installed a new one of the smaller Grey ones, with the Green lights at front. (The older one with the card). Worked immediately. So as he agreed it's the box and the software inside, not matching up to the T.V. It's pot luck it seems - some get good box first time. But I'm sticking with the older version until all these problems are solved.

Exact same thing happened to me, including the "signed off as problem was fixed" bit! I have an older box too now. Recently enquired about their HD package through email and asked them had they fixed the problem with the TVs yet. They replied back and said that they haven't fixed the issue but were aware of it. Sounds like they aren't breaking themselves to try and fix it.

old big pace box - EPG very slow and Freezing screen all weekend after changing channels.

Additionally when changing channels , STB becomes unresponsive - green light goes out and after a minute or so the browse re appears.

Small pace box is not having the same issues.

Is the EPG update a few weeks ago at fault ?

New HD box also having issues.

Backup button brings you to a station adjacent to the station you were watching previously. - e.g. 403 instead of 402. Reboot doesn't help.

About a month or so ago UPC changed their menu system (i.e. the one that pops up when you press guide.

It is as slow as a tortoise in molasses! Sweet divine. If you press down really quickly a couple of times, you have to wait for the menu to catch up.

    I hate it!!!!!!

Rant over (well, for now anyway).

Anyone else suffering the same problem?

Same! i never use the menu anymore, its too annoying. TBH not too fond of UPC at the moment, keep getting phone calls off them about my computer/internet connection, i dont know is it a scam or what but its very irritating, wouldnt mind it too much if they could speak proper audible english.

I hear you. I keep getting a call from Northern Ireland claiming to be a person from UPC trying to sell me a phone connection.

What do you use instead of the menu. Some sort of sorcery to know what's on? Don't tell me you use a newspaper? Cave men used newspapers!:D

It's even the layout of the new menu I hate as much as the speed. The last one, with the little display in the corner was was handier to manoeuvre.

Problem is getting worse - over the weekend the small pace box started flashing 'you have not subscibed' messages - really helpful during a gran prix......
While the big silver pace box now crashes on a regular basis and needs to be rebooted numerous times every day.

Remote control is unresponsive - what ever is going on UPC seem to be unable to solve the problem despite numerous fixes

Is that the normal boxes with no Digital+, the ex NTL tiny pace one with the card in the front and the even older pace one with the card that goes in the back.

If so unfortunately these boxes are plain crap and no matter what UPC do, they are unlikely to fix all of the problems with them, if NTL pre UPC buyout had designed something more stable in the past, rather than starving the network of investment, you wouldn't have this problem. On the upside, lease the new software doesn't display gathering data endlessly which used to wreck my head.

Whilst the new DVR boxes and HD boxes are not perfect, they are light years ahead of the old useless NTL crap.

    ***BAD PUN ALERT***

That crowd at UPC are a right shower of grand prix themselves!

    (I did warn you!)

my box had gotten faster the last few days, and there seems to be a few changes, like now tells me when a programme has been viewed it never did before, and when watching a programme i can scroll along to other channels and view more than an hour ahead. I could not do this before.

digital+ box has been painfully slow since I got it installed in December 2009. Menus lagging, channel change taking ages, no sound when playing back recorded programs.

Light at the end of the tunnel though, looks like I'll be able to switch back to sky soon. They're installing a shared dish on my building.
