Is your town in need of a new nightclub??

Hi guys,

If you feel your town needs a new nightclub, then let me know?
Ideally a town that has lots of pubs and only one nightclub.
For example; i'm form a town that had a dancehall operate as a nightclub for 5-6 years charging 10 euro at the door into an overcrowded h*le and had no real competition, now the town has 3 nightclubs competing against each other and its 5€ into them all now and all have top entertainment. (Can't beat a bit of competition) but I want to know of towns that have a similar story and are in need of a new club or some competition.

Blanchardstown.

I'm amazed that for an area with such a huge population that there is only 1 nightclub.

That said, I don't think another one would last long.

High unemployment rate etc.

carrigaline in cork. People can't be bothered getting a taxi to and from cork city. Population is about 15k to 20k and there are plenty more small towns in the area.

There is not even a late bar so if i was setting up a nightclub it would be there.

Nenagh

Two small nightclubs, both crap.

Large enough town, over 30 pubs in the town.
15,000 people in the surrounding area.

Please OP, come visit and open a nightclub.

Birr.

Currently we have 1 nightclub, which charges 12 quid in on the door and you cant take your coats upstairs so you gotta pay 2 quid to hang it up. So its really 14 quid in. Then they get crappy dj's in the whole time.

Would need a bit of competition there. Theres a good catchment area around birr aswell, and its always busy.

I've thought of Birr but the size of the town turned me off a little, but never ruled it out.
Melba's being that one nightclub? I see they had strippers and drink promos at the weekend, always a sign that things are not going too well. What kind of a crowd have they there every weekend? From what I rememeber passing through, it is in a good location. Is there any old nightclub in the town closed down? Or potential buildings in a good location?

feelingstressed; the more I look at Nenagh, the more I think it would be a great spot.

To be honest, I dont go out in birr too often anymore. Moved away from home and dont go back all too often! If i am around i would go in there and theres always a good crowd around on a friday saturday night. There was another nightclub, but it was a hotel bar that had a late license, couldnt really call it a nightclub. Very rare they'd get a dj in and that.

I cant think of any buildings/pubs that may be vacant at the moment and would suit as a nightclub, but then again, im not there too often anymore!!

Kilkenny

Only one nightclub,any other seems to close down after a few months. The one nightclub is now over 20's so the young'un's and underagers

take over the pubs..

From my research Kilkenny has the below in terms of nightclubs/late bars, i could be wrong:
Langtons (Thursday/Saturday)
Set, part of Langtons (Saturdays)
Pegasus, in O'Faoileans (Fridays/Saturdays)
Magnums (Fridays/Saturdays)
Kilkenny is apparently a great place to go out in? So someone must be doing something right down there. Kilkenny should have a 3rd level collage i feel, that’s when i'll be heading towards Kilkenny

Naas never even crossed my mind, Does Naas not have one of the biggest nightclubs in the country or am I mixing it up with somewhere else?

Langtons - The club I was talking about (over 20's)
Set - Not a club,also over 20's-which I am,but I'm just saying

Magnums - closed down,the one I mentioned

Kilkenny could really do with competition,especially for the younger crowd,i.e 18-25 yr olds.. somewhere that resembles a college area type club,with promotions and theme nights etc.. but somewhere that will last

Oh right cheers clairemcbear, taking all on board, will look further into it. I must see why these clubs are closing so quickly after opening, in a town like Kilkenny with great night life apparently.
There are businesses closing all over the country because they are not making money simply because there is not demand for their product/service
And then there are businesses that are just not being ran properly managing costs etc, an accountant told me the other day there are loads of businesses going to close in the coming months simply because they got caught up in the over borrowing/over lending from the banks and just can’t pay it back although they still are profitable . I have to see what bracket these clubs in Kilkenny fall into.

I wouldn't waste too much time on it, pubs are closing left, right and centre in Carrigaline. Even when there was a late bar open (Rosies), it was never busy.

From i gather there about ten pubs around the town. Where do the locals go for nightlife, waterford?

I see 'the ship' is up for lease, from what I can see from the photos it needs a lot of work. But New Ross seems the best suggestion i've got so far, cheers. What is the pub trade like there at the minute?

You also have the late night bar which is the Kenyon this is owned by the same people that own Maximus.

I have to admire your style when it comes to research, ask the good folk on boards and see what pops up.

From feedback that i've being getting elsewhere Nenagh has a nightclub that not a lot of people like, it's over packed on Saturdays and there is nothing that exciting in the lines of entertainment in there. Its also over priced from what I gather.

If a new nightclub opened in Nenagh, offering top entertainment, big names and most importantly something new I really feel it would put a huge amount of pressure on the club that is there at the minute, and I believe Nenagh could sustain two nightclubs and if it couldn’t I would imagine the new nightclub would be the one to come out on top.

Don’t worry this is not my only research, i've being talking to people in Nenagh for a while before this thread but I just said i'd put it up here to see if any new opportunities popped up.

The bold additions are mine, I agree with all your points.
I live in the town, I have no connection to either business mentioned on this thread.The biggest problem you'd face in opening a new nightclub in Nenagh is finding a suitable venue.
The reason I made my initial comment is that I have discussed this several times with various business people in the town and each time we all came to the same conclusion...great idea (for all the points you make above and more) but a venue is the problem. If you're pockets are deep enough to build/refurbish a venue you might do all the above.

On a side note..............**** I know of an excellent location it would need major upgrading and a bar licence, but could easily hold 1000 + patrons, could have at least 2 levels, with plenty of parking and no hassles as regards noise pollution.
If you're serious about opening a nightclub in Nenagh I'd love to dip my finger in that pie and I have contacts in the business.

Might be of some interest to you... The company that owned one of the nightclubs in Dundalk has ceased trading. Amber nightclub has shut down. Dundalk (pop. 35,000) has now only 2 nightclubs.

Just a note on Dundalk- I had a mate who was about to set up a coffee shop in Dundalk 4 yrs back. She was approached for protection money so she dropped the idea. I don't know if that still applies but its something to be wary of.

Clonmel, it's a pretty big town too. I haven't been there for a while but I presume nothing much has changed. Dannos is the main club but O Keefes is also a kind of late bar place with a couple of dance floors that seem to do well. Worth sussing out.

Visited Newross last weekend, went to the town on bank hol sunday.. pubs were very quite i was shocked... 8000 ppl... where were they? And there is a late bar there... very nice bar actually... did a rough head count about 400 ppl in there. talked to ppl down there and most ppl go to waterford and wexford! viewed a premises taht has potential perfect location but requires 100's of thousands!

Will look into dundalk immediately, thanks.. not the kind of town i was looking for but have being talking to ppl involved in mantra in maynooth and may have changed my views a little on the kind of location im looking for

OP you might be better off getting a map of Ireland and posting a pin at some random town.

theres a tonne of towns/cities which would benefit from a new club - but the problem is the margins for profit are very narrow - drinks offer a slight mark-up and would be the main incentive for getting people away from a pub.

Lets face it - if you are comfortable in a pub having a laugh - why would you want to pay an entry fee to a club to do the same.... people these days are watching the money...so the only incentive would be offering cheaper drink or drink promotions.....its a market which isn't really viable in my opinion..... by all means - if you have money to invest - it could turn out to be a great investment, but you need to convince people to part with their money - which in this current climate is not an easy thing to do.

As we approach Christmas - people will not be going out as much as normal - so they can save money to buy presents and maybe go out over the holidays, so if you are serious, consider having a venue which could offer christmas parties/sectioned off areas/reserved areas - VIP areas.

Best of luck with it if you do start a club somewhere....its going to be an expensive gamble (hope it works out)
