Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    N7/N18 Shannon Tunnel (LSRR-Phase 2) - July 27th (not June)

What about Galway Outer Bypass? Is this project too "up-in-the-air" to include in this list?
Was there any mention of it in yesterday's Infrastructure announcement?

Galway bypass is suspended, despite what Frank Fahey may lead you to believe. Even if it wasnt, it'll be years before it clears the courts.

I wish you luck. They completed the CPO and fenced off the line of the N11 Rathnew-Arklow in 2004. Still nothing happening!

They also demolished all the CPOed houses, etc there - bit further than just a fence!

Signs of new activity at Powerstown end, new pile of plastic bollards and traffic cones, and a flashing sign warning of major changes to junction from Monday 16th August - must be soon now!

The same to me.I also think that i should check out Cullahill-Portlaoise to see how that's going. I'd reckon for that, still late 2010, but I haven't been up near the site in a while.

What other road starts, other than the 3 listed here, have been confirmed as starting next year, or is that it given the current funding constraints?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69,537 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Not even those 3 have been confirmed as yet, only the M17/M18 PPP is a cert. Can't see the M11/NX one not going ahead, though.

Other than those, the N22 Tralee BP, the N5 Longford BP and N3 Belturbet BP are the others that have gone to tender that I can remember, and there are some fairly extensive works on the N70 and N59 being done by their respective councils IIRC (not NRA schemes).

The Murphystown Parallel Road in Sandyford is under construction and due for completion in the spring (2011). It links the M50 (junction 14) to the Ballyogan Road (northern end).

I suppose that doesn't count?

...also, M1 Widening (J2-J3) estimated start for Oct 2010.

If the above comes through, it will mean that a gap in Irish motorway construction may be avoided.

Based on the 5 mile tailback southbound on the M50/M11 I saw this afternoon I'd reckon widening the road from Sandyford (J14) to Bray (South) on the N11 must be a priority.

(Of course I know that some folk reckon traffic levels aren't a consideration in these matters :))

Who isn't being serious?! 80,000 movements/day (or whatever) and you've every only seen a handful?! I travel during the hours from 7am to 8pm; maybe you are on the 4am shift? :D

The tailbacks in the afternoon from the Bray junctions are notorious; ditto the tailbacks southwards from Kilmac in the mornings.

There were two accidents on that route on that Friday afternoon. There was on the northbound carriageway neat Firhouse junction of M50 that caused major tailbacks, thanks to radio reports I avoided it, but my cousin got delayed for two hours. There was a 2nd accident at the same time near Kilmacanogue heading south that caused major tailbacks as far as Cherrywood.

There were two accidents on that route on that Friday afternoon.

Yet another one at Kilmac? Hardly (if ever) does a week pass without a serious accident through that junction.

It is like the "Four Nuns" junction at Herbert Road used to be before they closed the median. But 21 people were killed at that single spot (never mind the injured and maimed) before they finally did anything - back in the early 1990s.

Then they built a new version two miles south at Kilmac.

It is bordering on criminal to leave it like it is. At the very least they could move the ****ing bus terminus.

you can add the N3 Belturbet By Pass to that - est. start Mar 2011

There's that many millions already spent on land purchase and planning that it is more cost effective to plough on with projects like this than to comtemplate abandonment/ postponment.

We can probably expect a confirmed start on the Tralee Bypass shortly, as Healey-Rae has it second on his shopping list to support the budget, he was saying it on the radio today - repeatedly!

    yup
    http://breakingnews.ie/ireland/healy-rae-demands-hospital-and-bypass-for-supporting-budget-480421.html

according to an irish examiner article, land has already been acquired for this project.
The 100 million plus price tag is probably a good percentage land cost, so its not that much a financial burden from where we stand now to plough on and get the project over and done with.

as for a new Hospital...... That'd be off topic to comment
