Start & End Dates N/M Roads?

Nice and simple, with no need to rename it. There can be a minor roads thread as well, might help to clear up some clutter.

They'd better cut them 'cheese slicers' out of any plans for this project, ridiculously unsafe for bikers

Due to those meeting the required EU standards there is basically no way they can demand a tenderer use double armco.

This debate is had every time. The jury is out on wire rope barriers, safety experts say they're fine, bikers disagree.

Anyone have any information on start dates for the new schemes announced in the capital investment plan?

The only one so far is M7 widening and Sallins bypass, which will start in April 2017, according to an Irish Times article.

M28 Cork-Ringaskiddy (12.5km of motorway) now planned to start in 2019 with construction finishing in 2020/2021, subject to funding.

"Funding is provided for the widening of the M7 motorway between Naas and the M7/M9 junction near Kilcullen, Co Kildare, on which preliminary work is expected to begin early next year, with the main construction contract getting underway about April 2017."

Just to be exact, I've drawn it out based on the route map on that site, and it looks like 11 km of motorway and 1.5 km of single carriageway.

Limerick City and County Council has confirmed on their website/twitter that the N21 Killarney Pole to Barnagh Road Safety Scheme will open to traffic at 1pm this Thursday, 26 November 2015.

Also the N53 Castleblaney/ Dundalk Rd has REOPEN to traffic following works between Barronstown to Hackballscross. The improvement works was due to finish soon so hopefully its all complete too!

How long was the improvement? Was it a continuation of the one from Philipstown?

Yes I think so, the scheme is meant to mirror the previous one at Philisptown..... The new project will extend from the newly realigned section at Newtownbalregan to Barronstown, 1km west to the Hackballscross junction....., the improvement of the N53 has included overtaking sections and will lead to improved journey times and improved access from the north west to Dundalk and the M1 motorway.

It wouldn't be normal to have a road run through another jurisdiction, that way you can close the border if necessary.

I think your in the wrong forum, this is for Construction projects start & End, there is bound to be a thread discussion this topic.......or you can go create one. To be honest there is more pressing road projects in the country that need addressed before creating new roads along the border for the sake of it. It was never done during the troubles so I doubt it will be done now.

Sam Russell: This thread is about the construction of roads and infrastructure. Political views can be expressed in the politics area. Closing borders for any reason other than road traffic accidents is a political matter and not for discussion here.
