I lived in Chicago for a while and loved them. Very friendly and they melted at the sound of the oul Irish brogue so what's not to love?

On the downside, holding a conversation with many was quite a chore. Not saying they're all thick but jaysus I met a fair few who were.

All in all a very positive experience.

I moved to San Diego for 6 weeks, moved in with a bunch of girls, left Ireland behind, some people said that life isn't enough, but that's because they think they were better than us.

It was lonely in San Diego, but I didn't let it get me down, cause i've been there before, but I know better now, It was my one last storm, before the calm, just doing what needed to be done.

The night before I left to come back to Ireland, We slept all day, and drank all night, we were not wasting our time.

I've yet to meet an American girl who wasn't friendly, and not stuck up her own hole. Unlike some Irish women. I find American girls more approachable. They just seem to give off a more friendly vibe. In saying that, everyone is individual and has different tastes and pet peeves. Just be yourself when you come over - and if they don't like it, they aren't worth talking to in the first place. Enjoy :)

    1. No.
    2. Not as bad as some Irish girls I've met.
    3. Is that code for 'I'm looking for a one-night stand. Should I try Temple Bar?'
    4. California tan? They'll give you the time of day without prior written permission from the Pope? They often understand the appeal of guns?
    5. I live in California. I've met quite a few. Which one do you want me to talk about?

    NTM

Honestly, I have heard different things of what to expect when going to Ireland.
I'm not going to Ireland to hook up with anyone, but how can you go to another country and not be abit interested in the opposite sex?
I want answers, straight forward and through some other stuff in there if you would like. Just getting an overview of it all. I definately expect to here some banter on here, so bombs away. ;)
    1. Does the southern accent get on your nerves?
    2.You think were stuck up.
3.Should I definately stay away from temple bar if I dont want some guy hitting me up because he wants a one night stand with a foreigner?
    4. What do you find attractive about american women or unattractive (please leave out the fact that alot of american are fat, lol)?
    5. a story about when you met an american women?

    lol, oh lordy.

I meet an awfull lot of Americans and I don't think I've ever met one I didn't get on with. that being said, most people will judge everyone on an individual basis (i havent read the thread so im preparing to be proved wrong) so I couldnt say they are all stuck up or nice for that matter.

Avoiding temple bar is good advise for anyone, except the palace on fleet street. Great pub

    1. Yes, both types.
    2. No. Most are overly friendly like excitable puppies. Cute but after a few minutes I want to kick them out of my way.
    3. Depends on whether you are up for a one night stand. Do you do ladies or just men.
    4. The fact that everything is analysed by them and then those analyses are further subject to analysis. Does the word anal come from analysis or analysis come from anal? My analysis of your various threads is that you are a dimwit looking for a Irish ride and not being very subtle about it.
    5. I met an American woman when I bought a newspaper the other day. She was working at the petrol (gas station). She said, "have a nice day." I said, "yeah right." I have loads more of those stories. Would you like to read some more of them.

As long as they don't have a spreadsheet on the go and use the phrase "hook-up", I'm OK.

Ah all the subtle gentlemanly guys responding to the female poster hoping to get noticed.

    I won't play that game.

OP, PM me for sex and/or fling.

    I'm out.

    1. Does the southern accent get on your nerves? I like different accents so wouldnt bother me.
2.You think were stuck up.Not from my experience. Irish girls can be very stuck up anyway so wouldnt be a surprise!
3.Should I definately stay away from temple bar if I dont want some guy hitting me up because he wants a one night stand with a foreigner? Youll be in ireland, everyones gonna hit on you when theyre pissed.
    4. What do you find attractive about american women or unattractive (please leave out the fact that alot of american are fat, lol)?
if they cant take a joke! here in limerick for example, everyone jokes about anything and no one generally gets annoyed. basically people can take a slagging and get a laugh out of it. I'd imagine americans would get offended at a lot of stuff
    5. a story about when you met an american women?
I have 2. I was have a pint on my own one day and some american one tried chatting me up by saying "I know that look, you wanna just go ahead and kill, yourself right?" I just couldnt stop laughing! another one asked me to dance one night and was talking to her for a while, got a laugh and that but I think taht our sense of humour is TOTALLY different! I like the way american girls will come up and chat away to you and approach you if they like you even when they are sober!

Spent the Summer in New York. The women were class. However, most of them were of Southern American descent. They were amazing. But the American women were class too but dickheads. They were hard to listen to. Then there were the munters. And when they were bad, they were terrible.

    1. No, it can be quite sexy.

    2. No, not stuck up. Insular, maybe. What I find from the Americans I know is that they have a very limited view of the world. Which I guess, is down to the news networks in the US. They tend only to focus on issues that directly affect the US. Case in point- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUWDpAhcHEI#t=4m44s
But I wouldn't accuse Americans of being stuck-up. I do think the average American has their heart in the right place. The Americans I've met have always been very pleasant to associate with. No real bad experiences from them.

    3. You should stay away from Dublin... Ireland... men in general if you don't want some guy hitting on you because he wants a one night stand with a foreigner.

    4. The Americans I know and have met are generally very positive and upbeat. I like that about them.

    5. Too long. People wont read.

    1. Does the southern accent get on your nerves? No
2.You think were stuck up. Not at all, find American girls easier to talk to on average
3.Should I definately stay away from temple bar if I dont want some guy hitting me up because he wants a one night stand with a foreigner? Guys want one night stand with foreign or native girls wherever you go, temple bar is no different other that you'll run into more tourists
    4. What do you find attractive about american women or unattractive (please leave out the fact that alot of american are fat, lol)?Usually good fun. Probably a bit better looking on average than Irish women but not as good looking as continental Europeans

I much prefer talking to American women than Irish, Any time I can have a conversation that doesn't revolve around whether you're "From the Northsoide or the Southsoide" is always nice.

I live in the Netherlands and tbh most Americans I meet pretend to be Canadian.

I was talking to an American girl once in a bar in Oslo and she knew I was from Ireland.

She asked "So have you ever been to Europe"

    *facepalm*

Depends where their from really, but they have some funny ideas about Europeans, i.e. Their usually surprised to find out that in Ireland we have toilets indoors and not all houses have thatched roofs.

If I hear another American banging on about how small our cars are i'll go on a shooting rampage.

Seriously? They spend all their time hating on Canada, then try to call themselves Canadians? Why?

    Grrragh.

It's probably best to form your own opinions of us when you come over. Obviously we're just wonderful here but you need to decide that yourself! ;)

    In answer to your queries:

    1. No. I've heard a number of different US accents and I've liked what I've heard so far.

    2. I've never encountered a stuck-up American yet. Or if I did, they didn't make an impression on me!

    3. I don't think it matters where you go. But yeah stay away anyway!

    4. I think they are very open and approachable. I don't think there's anything unattractive about them as a whole.

    5. I met one. She broke my heart. True story!

They usually wear tops. hats or backpacks with a big feckin maple leaf on them.

Think its something to do with the Terrorists:

Edit, jesus christ ... who wrote this bollocks
Wear the same swimwear as the locals. In many countries it is common for men to wear Speedos on the beach or pool. In some European countries, like France and Belgium, men are even required by law to wear a Speedo in public pools: Wearing a swim short is forbidden. Also, wearing a swimming cap is required for both men and women in some countries.

    I don't even own a pair of speedos ..
Avoid walking down the street while eating food; this is against proper etiquette in most countries.

Walking home at 4am with a Kebab is normal in most of europe.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You immediately see through the Americans pretending to be Canadians. They keep forgetting to put 'eh?' at the end of sentences.

    (1) Don't confuse DUBLIN women with all IRISH women.
    (2) Try getting out of Dublin and you might meet such women....in fact don't....stay there stay insular, small minded...and away from the rest of us!! MUPPET!

To OP....come to Ireland, in general you'll find Irish men want the same as any other nationality.... some of after 'only one thing' others are reasonably nice guys who want to give it a chance...
Some will like the accent, others won't. Be warned though, it is part of the national psyche to not be as openly communicative/upfront as tends to be the case in America. Your greatest relationships issue here will probably be the dependance on the pub/drinking culture to (1) meet, (2) socialise & (3) retain many-though not all- of those relationships.

Good luck with it and don't obsess on it too much!

American girls are great fun. They seem a lot more chilled out and relaxed compared to a lot of Irish women. Probably because they don't consider Sex and the City as Inspiration...

    1. Nope! southern accents are the only attractive accents in the US. All the other accents sound plain to my ear. The Boston accent in revolting though.
    2. Nope. I've found Americans very friendly.
    3. Better yet, stay out of Dublin altogether ;).
    4. Women are difficult creatures to understand no matter where they're from!
    5. I got talking to this lovely gal on the Subway in Manhattan. We were getting on like a house on fire! Coincidentally We both got off at grand central station & she asked me if I'd carry her big heavy suitcase into the station for her. Being the gent that I am I obliged & we chatted while we walked all the way into the station. It was simply magical! Did I mention she was about seventy?:D True story though.
