    25/09/10 ow

    750 f/s @ 7 frogs triathlon, castlegregory - ~11 mins

Has grown and grown this event and since its for charity its brilliant. The location is second to none, the atmosphere great fun and has been for me the final race of my season for 4 years running now.

Id felt a little under the weather in the preceding week but nothing too much to worry about but felt out of sorts. Unfortunately when I got back to Dublin on Sunday I thought I had the flu but long story short I was wrong and despite seeing a couple of docs on monday morning ended taking an ambulance ride to a/e and a couple of days in hospital recovering / getting checked out.

Despite the season being over - Ill continue my swimming log until the end of the year. Its been sparse over the last few months but at this time of the year it should get a little more interesting again.

Well done on the AG win.

How are you feeling now? Must have been pretty serious if you were carted off to hospital. Hope you're recovering well.

    14/10/10 LC

    2000 f/s straight
    100 easy b/c

    2100

'been a long time since I rock and rolled' - 3 weeks since Id been in the pool after being pretty poorly (yes, it was fairly serious at one point since I passed out at home whilst running a temperature of around 42 - and Id be the last person to call an ambulance but ended up in the back of one). Anyhow - hard to kill a bad thing but this was definitely just a swim for the sake of it. Nice and quiet morning in the pool. Met an old coach of mine ... still sitting on the block at the end of the lane, still calling the shots and still helpless to fix my stroke ;)

    42

You'ld want to open a few windows in the house next time you're on the turbo:p

Glad to hear you're over it.

Thanks Mac - Ill bear that in mind ;)

Unfortunately, it appears, Im not quite over it - sick again over the weekend - no bad temperatures this time and no trip in an ambulance - but another week sitting watching the nice weather.

    19/10/10 LC

    800 f/s warm up
    6 * 200 f/s pull with paddles on 3
    200 easy

    2200

for the sake of my own sanity I went to the pool this morning. Short set of 200's pull after a warmup were nice to work through. Ive no real strength or aerobic endurance at the moment after the last month or so and am still no where near 100% but sometimes its just nice to swim.

    for those interested

    http://www.3dtri.com/index.php?q=node/2252

scroll to end of page for xls file ... 4 sheets, nothing too clever - just 30 or so swim sessions that might help people keep focus between now and christmas when swimming alone.

The sessions arent perfect, this is no silver bullet and I probably wont make you swim faster ;) ... sufficiently played down ? ;)

Any feedback tentatively welcomed - just passing time sitting on the couch sick with Excel and an old log book.

Cheers Interested, the 1.5 distance session is a nice start for me as I will be able to fit them in during my lunch break.

No early mornings needed until I progress to 2.3 sessions

Made a start on my pbs yesterday 1.39 (100) & 3.44 (200).....swiftly canceled the 400 pb through exhaustion.

Its amazing how quick your swim goes when you aren't doing it regularly. I would have thought I would have been close to a sub 1.30 beforeI set out. Gives me something to aim for I supposeThanks again

no bother and hope they help. the short sessions will hopefully address some peoples lunch time splashes. Enjoy.

Nice one interested good man yourself! Hope you are feeling better and plotting some targets while you veg.

If you have trouble motivating yourself to plan and do a session solo, join a Masters group and all the session planning is done. You just show up and follow suit....

No problems with self-motivation from my own point of view once I can stay healthy ;)
But whether it be an organised club session or masters swim its not always possible for people to head along to these swims or to finance them in some situations.
Again, none of this suggests replacing a coached session that you can attend it just attempts to provide focus to additional sessions done alone or in smaller groups at this time of the year or later in the winter when bad weather dictates a swim session instead of a day out on the bike.

    21/10/10 LC

    400 f/s warm up
    8 * 200 f/s pull with paddles on 3
    200 b/c easy

    2200

Felt better in the water today and much more comfortable on 200's.

    26/10/10 LC

    400 f/s warm up
4*400 f/s pull with paddles on 6 min
    200 easy

Not much time this morning so set of 6/4's had to be shortened.

    27/10/10 LC

    1000 f/s warm up
    5 * 200 f/s pull with paddles on 3
    200 swim down

Another pull set - pretty sore and tired this morning - had first run in about 5 weeks yesterday and despite it being under an hour - its as if Im being punished for every foot step of it.

    29/10/10 LC

    1000 f/s warm up
    10 * 100 f/s pull with paddles on 1.30
    200 easy

    2200

    Tired this morning.
Also, EOT ... end of thread. Will be doing more formal sessions over the next while and imho its not for me to post someone elses sessions on D'internet.

There's about 388,750km of swimming (less any race distances) in this log that someone might find useful at some point.

From a personal point of view its been of use to note stuff down that I can look back on easily. From the seasons point of view - I was plain lucky I got so much done between Oct 09 and April/May this year since lots of personal stuff choked any sort of consistency with swimming or other training up until now. The season went from planning for a late long distance event to two HIM's which was very disappointing and then was bookmarked by 5 weeks of serious illness (for me at least) which has left me feeling like Im starting from scratch ...
... but I had alot of fun at the races I did take part in this season. From a results point of view - my swimming was stronger than it has been but - without getting too focused on it - Im hoping with some more structure and longer sessions I can take it up a level or two. The heads still willing so ... we'll see if in addition to some good run training this winter it can make a difference next season.

Good luck with the swimming folks.

Thanks for all the advice Interested.

Well done on the two wins again as well although you wont see any mention of them in this log ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,207 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

+1 2 HIMs and 2 Sprint wins this year is not all that bad a season now is it? A pity your unfortunate illness dented the itinerary but I've no doubt that you will be stepping up a nothc next year. All the best and thanks for the log chief :)

Thanks for a great log and all the advice, which helped turn me from a mediorcre swimmer to a soemwhat less mediocre one:) Take it easy.

Great log Interested and well done on the wins, also the Beowolf style swim in Kenmare!!

Looking forward to having you in the pool 3 times a week from next week, for selfish reasons really as it should bring me on quite a bit.......o and also because you're sound :D Although getting used to 5:30 starts again is going to be tough!

Looking forward to your next log and lets hope you can get some consistency in training and that illness/injury/life doesn't get in the way. :)

    Lads,

Many thanks and no problems at all - as always feel free to ping a pm in my direction if anyone needs to share a problem or are worried they're getting ripped off by a coach ;) - Im just hoping the ramblings made sense to some people.

El D, it sure is gonna be interesting. Pearls of wisdom such as 'theres no need to go looking for the pain, its in the post' are bound to spring to mind over the course of the coming weeks.
