Now that we're all in Halls, let me ask this.
Let's say someone realised they hate living here and wanted to find somewhere else to live.
Is there any possible way to get your fee back?

JCR tech guy tapped me on the shoulder in Tramco last night and told me to smile. It was a pretty special moment tbh.

Hey there - I know there's a socket for putting a TV in the kitchen areas of the modern accom, but has anyone ever tried using one of the aerials you plug into your laptop? Specifically in the rooms?

Hey, emm, has the time of getting your laptops fixed down at Oldham (or whatever) passed?
ALSO: is Norton cool with the college network (or whatever...)?

    Nope, and
Nope! Go find the tech guym, he'll help you on tuesday, otherwise there's a clinic on tomorrow at 6.

I don't know really, I went to him last week and he kept talking about his Tech support only lasting 15 minutes, I couldn't see why he couldn't have taken any longer really.

Wait.. Should I find him in halls or in college? I don't know this guy's timetable!
Should I just go down to Oldham?
ALSO (sorry) a while ago it was said to have anti-virus already installed before seeing the tech people, but seeing as mine is Norton, I probably SHOULDN'T install it, right? Is it better to have nothing than the wrong thing?

How strict is this cleanliness check round our apartments? Like, should I take the posters off my walls & stuff?

The internet out here is a joke this year. It's really annoying.

It's bad in College as well. But it's been like that over a week now, and the ISS haven't even posted that there's a problem.

They don't mind if you have posters up. My room was plastered with loads of them last year and it was grand.

lucky you, we were told to take down all our posters, and I got an email after the second one with a warning because we had one flag in our room.

Its not just you. Halls is run through a fibre down to campus where it connects out from the 10GB line. Problem is both proxyA.tcd.ie and proxyB.tcd.ie are both on the fritz right now, so everyone is having connection issues.

People may disagree, but I've found the connection to be a bit better today and yesterday. Not perfect, but at least usable.

Except that it's not a 10GB line here, or in college, it's a 10Gb line. And Halls is still on the 1Gb line. but even still, 90% of adapters, (definately the built in ones to laptops) all are 100/100 tops, so you're never going to see past 12.5MB/s download.

Yesterday I'd disagree, i thought it was the worst it's been so far. But tonight seems to be quite okay, it hasn't cut me off skype at all tonight, and I've only been cut off once on firefox since about 7PM

It's been pretty useless all week, cutting out every few seconds. Still, it's workable with a bit of patience.

Yes, its 10Gigabit obviously, sorry for the capitalisation.

I wasnt suggesting you'd get anywhere near that. They have traffic management in effect to stop people on hard lines trying to anyways. After something like 5 seconds you're capped down to somewhere between 5 and 10Mb.

Considering the size of halls a gigabit link should do for general use, as the network is intended.

Unless you guys in halls are having extra trouble VOIP shouldn't be too unstable anyways as once the proxy request is made and accepted you're connected. Sounds like ISS may have fixed it for now once more.

Sorry for the rage rant, I was tired and thought you were being a know-it-all without actually knowing :)
Actually, I have some screenshots...somewhere... t(think on my old laptop) that has me downloading at 100Mb/s, hitting 11-12MB download speeds on large files.

You do know downloading torrents is not allowed on the college network, Groinshot..... For shame.
