Surely one could retrofit it with a nice supercharger and the Sports Diff?. Maybe even ask Audi themselves to do it?

What has that to do with retrofitting superchargers? :pac:
Incidentally the IS-F is likely a cut above the S5/S4, but is a M3/M5/RS competitor, so it should be. Its also meant to pale in comparison with its Audi/BMW peers.

I'm not keen on the interior of the IS-F at all. I've never actually driven an IS-F.

Isnt your A5 a 1.8t FWD? Not really the same as swapping from S5 even with its stupid V8.

I didnt mean to make that connection at all. I was just making the point that the 335d coupe is a fabulous car and I have looked around at them as genuinely considering swapping for one.

My A5 in no way resembles an S5. My A5 is a big ball of sh1te.

What exactly are the running costs of the S5 vs the GTR?

I would expect them to be similar to be honest unless the GTR has some kind of savage service interval.

Both will spray petrol all over the road behind you as you drive, so where is the difference? Is it insurance and depreciation?

I think insurance on the GTR must be crazy. Ive heard stories of12 to 15k sterling to reset bonnet pedestrian safety system after minor accidents.

Plenty of sunshine here the last few months :)

I'll meet you half way. White looks great on a Honda Civic?

That whole pedestrian system thing was a bit of a once off. It isn't such an issue, from what I'm told. But yes if you need the pedestrian system reset, which includes a new bonnet then you're looking at €10k or so. Nissan covered the one you're probably thinking about.

Actually no, the S5 is a jumped up regular car with no particular exotic features (especially in the Coupe model) while the GTR is a purpose built sports car. Even engine wise, lazy NA 4.2 V8 vs highly boosted (Twin Turbo) 3.8 V6 they are miles apart.

I like Audi, I like S cars, I like the look of the S5, but it is in no shape or form on the same footing as the GTR from a performance or maintenance point of view.

Consider the S5 a +20% cost from a maintenance perspective over a A5 3.0TDI. Consider the GTR a Ferrari type machine.

Some high end cars look stunning in white in certain countries with the appropriate climate eg South Africa, California.

In Ireland they look pretentious and pathetic IMO, whatever the car.

Surely a 07 S5 should keeps it's value better due to the fact of the €600 per year lower tax (which Irish people go mad for!)

Well, it's been for sale for over a year you reckon, it's hardly keeping it's value so far as they can't get rid of it ;)

Thats really a problem with the people here and their rampant begrudgery more than the colour or appropriateness to our climate isnt it?

In those countries they specifically order cars white for a more practical reason...the reflect sunlight and radiant heat off the sun as opposed to attracting it (in the case of black cars).

On that note did you ever see that CARB in the US wanted to ban black cars in California? Black cars = hotter interior = more AC usage = lower economy = more pollution.

Didnt go through with it in the end. http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1032693_carb-backs-off-bid-to-get-rid-of-black-cars-in-california

Solar Sunroofs are a better solution IMO.
