The Work Placement programme on the face of it is a good idea- allow people with no experience to learn a trade or get experience to make them employable.

However the blatant greed of the Celtic entrepeneurs is rising with the scum to the service.

I don't blame the blatant neck on these people - who in FAS is responsible for allowing these charlatans to expoit people. Remember these people are expected to work a full week for Free for the experience.

    Examples:

    "Trainee" shop assistant  Dunmore
    https://jobbank.fas.ie/servlet/Watis?SESS=8859_37&SERVICE=CRITERIUMBROWSE&TEMPLATE=WWW_JS_VAC_CRITERIUM_BROWSE.HTM&ROW=50&BACK=TEMPLATE%3DWWW_JS_VAC_CRITERIUM_OVERVIEW.HTM

    "Trainee" Bar Person Foynes.

Is it any wonder young people are emigrating. At least they can get paid for minimum wage jobs abroad.

    This country is a joke.

Sending a letter to an tanaiste about this, for real. Absolute scum IMO. Hope the people of Dunmore know about this lout.

Wasn't this sort of ****e supposed to have been stamped out a few months ago when it was found that unscrupulous employers were posting such ads? To lazy and cheap to hire people full time and they should be named and shamed for trying to scam the system in this way. I for one would boycott any business that would take advantage of peoples misfortune in this way in order to get cheap labour.

Are you sure this info is correct, I didn't see the business names in the linked pages and boards could get in trouble if it is wrong

Area of activity in which placement is offered: Bar, Restaurant, B&B. Participants will gain experience in: Bar Trade Restaurant B&B This business operates like a mini hotel and the correct candidate will gain experience in all aspects of the hospitality trade. They will also learn all the aspects of how to manage an SME from profit to margins and service to cleanliness. Person specification: A person who is willing to learn and work smart. Someone who will use their initiative and be able to work as part of a small efficient friendly team. Once the person has the correct attitude we will be able to assist them to grow and learn the business. Someone whom is honest and capable. Garda vetting required
lol I especially like the highlighted section, when I read it I had an image of them turning the fire hose on some poor bastard behind the sheds until they finally broke their spirit.

There is already an in-depth thread on this topic over in Work & Jobs where Roddy Molley some people where actually defending it.

I think these WPP 'jobs' are adding to the unemployment rate in this country as these positions are replacing salary paying entry level roles and minimum wage jobs and pretty much giving companies free slave labour.

The minimum wage in Ireland is now €0.00

Ya, but I think the beauty of it is that while they are still receiving SW payments they are not officially part of the live register (I'm open to correction on that though) so its sugar coating the figures if you will.

It's not just about exploiting the system (which potentially is a great idea) or the people looking for experience.. it's also ensuring that the positions are not officially filled by someone else, thus keeping unemployment numbers up. Yeah, great job FAS

Person specification*: Experience in a factory environment preferred and have the ability to plan and oversee production and ensure targets are met at all times. Health & safety training would be a bonus.

    broadband installer

OK...a FAS and FF idea. What did people expect? An efficient, effective program that met with the needs of those that it is intended for?! FFS.

I suppose FAS needed some "executives" to fly first class to Florida or Dubai or something to ensure the fcuking thing was implemented properly.

Have you ever tought about how this program can auctually help people find work who wudnt be able to otherwise find a job. Take my situation I am unemployed over two and a half years and cant get any work in my field or doing anything pritty much.I found an employer who will take me on under this scheme who would not have the money to auctually pay wages and I for one am delighted.I get 9 months work exp in my ideal job instead of been at home wasting away for another 2-5 years while ''things pick up '' Ya right Get real people.Sure its open to exploitation but in fairness no one is going to go packin shelves for 40hours a week for nothing the people tryin to exploit it prob wont get applicants.

I've seen Tesco advertise for a newly qualified solicitor on the WPP, and bearing in mind the following :
    http://www.breakingnews.ie/business/tesco-profits-up-10-454577.html

I can only assume they are taking the p1ss.

Would I rather stay at home on internet ,reading , drinking tea, fapping, exercising than stand around in a low skill job for 9 months making some greedy fecker money?

The economy here is fecked up . Graduates having to work full time for 200euro a week while cleaners and road sweepers in public sector scratch arses and get 4-500 a week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,789 ✭✭✭✭peasant

the people tryin to exploit it prob wont get applicants.

    That's not the point.

The people trying to exploit it should:

    - not get their advertisement published in the first place
    - get a kick up the arse from fas for trying it on

But hey ..this is fas running the show, not vetting the ads, not giving a f*ck.

It's not like we could expect them to do something right and properly for a change after all their recent f*ckups, now could we?

    Asking too much, is it?

I started on a WPP2 in Sandyford. Everyone in the office bar the directors were on the WPP program. I quit after a couple of days at the flagrant breach of the WPP2 regulations. It's utterly, utterly insane.

Now that I think about it, even though I'm Irish I have never seen a worse first-world country. We'e amazingly bad at everything. Just found out today that Intel is halfway shut down already. Intel is a major part of our economy, and if it goes every other major company will go.

This is the truth that the guberment don't want people to know.

That's great if you get a job in programming or a trade or some REAL Professional skills- that is worth the experience,

Packing shelves, pulling pints, filing and other MINIMUM Wage Jobs are not- that is why they are minimum wage- NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

And The Problem I have is WHO IS VETTING THESE ADS???- Who in FAS is administering the system??
