    People that don't pay sort of piss me off tbh. Just pay the thing and stfu :mad: These are the same people crying about how hard it is to be unemployed and how hard the recession is.

    The country is in an awful state financially, so are its people... I wouldn't call it unreasonable to stick it to an Inspector if he calls to a house in hardship to **** right off...

    I don't pay it on principle and I never will unless something changes in rte.
    I pay it on the principle I am not a fucking cunt who expects others to pay my share. No wonder it is so high with the amount of stingy fucking pricks who think they are great by in effect stealing from other people, no better than mugging scumbags IMO -subhumans.

    Not that I agree a licence should be in place in the first place, but I pay it and I have complained to politicians about it. It would be like having a free bus service and everybody paying the same amount whether they use it or not. Why not have a cooker licence and send out meals to people each day? eat it or bin it, you have no choice if you own a cooker you are legally obliged to have a licence.

    It is not a vital service, and many countries get by fine without it.
    # 3 Countries where the TV licence has been abolished

    * 3.1 Australia
    * 3.2 Belgium (Flemish region)

    * 3.5 Hungary
    * 3.6 India
    * 3.7 Malaysia
    * 3.8 Netherlands
    * 3.9 New Zealand
    * 3.10 Portugal

    # 4 Countries that never had a television or broadcasting licence

    * 4.1 Europe
    o 4.1.1 Andorra
    o 4.1.2 Estonia
    o 4.1.3 Liechtenstein
    o 4.1.4 Luxembourg
    o 4.1.5 Monaco
    * 4.2 North America
    o 4.2.1 Canada
    o 4.2.2 United States
    * 4.3 Asia
    o 4.3.1 China (mainland)
    o 4.3.2 Hong Kong
    o 4.3.3 Iran
    o 4.3.4 Vietnam
    o 4.3.5 The Philippines
    Let the people decide for themselves, with a subscription service just like any other TV company like sky have to do.

    I pay it but I buy the 4 euro tv stamps and just fill the book. Last year I was struggling to pay and I rang up An Post and they said they'd give me 3 months to get the rest of the money up - which was very fair.

    I don't think I'm getting value for money btw - but tbh I'd rather pay the licence fee than have to pay the fine for not having a licence.

    My friends will always ring or text or whatever before they come over to make sure I am in, so if I am expecting them I'll answer the door.

    My family either have a key, know to ring before coming over or if they see the car in the drive and I don't answer the door will give my phone a ring and If I am in I'll open the door etc...

    Not doing that, you get ****ing TV licence inspectors, charity gimps, roma gypsies, Airtricity or some other gobsheen looking to "save me" moeny or Jehovah witnesses... None of whom I wanna waste my time talking to even just for 10 seconds

    I would never answer the door unless I was expecting someone.

    But one evening in August, my friend was calling over for dinner. She called to let me know she was outside the apartment building, I buzzed her in. A couple of minutes later, the doorbell rang. I opened it expecting it to be her ... nope, f*cking TV licence inspector. And the worst part was, we had only gotten the TV literally the day before, after not having one for months, and of course it was blaring away in the background and the big cardboard box for it was sitting right beside me in the hall! :rolleyes: So no getting away with it really.

    I'm going to try to get the landlord to pay it though, as compensation for some other problems.

    a tv licence never crossed my mind until the little postman arrived at my door one evening about 7pm when I was expecting my sister. But sure these things have to be paid. if he never came to my door i most likely would never have paid for it purely because it just never registered with me. I'd rather have it paid though than be on edge about possibly getting a fine or whatever else.

    Word to the wise

    If you do pay then pay on the 1st of the month

    I got mine on September 25th 2009 and it only goes to September 1st 2010.

    So pay on this first, never near the end of the month

    It's high because Marian Finucane gets paid €500k a year for a few hours work and Gerry Ryan's daughter gets to go to Manhattan for a year and live with her boyfriend off Daddy's tab and gets bailed out with her own show when Daddy passes away. That's why it's so expensive.

    Thet used to try to turn the people who paid against those who did not. Well..... that didint work because we all know that if everyone in the country who has a T.V paid their licence it would'nt make a hapeworth of difference, they'd still screw us

    Here here!"!.. Do the same.. Just because I live in an estate does not mean its open season for cold Callers... I actually wanted to put a sign on the door... (unless your the postman or someone who knows me... don't bother me. )) but the wife stopped me.

    As regards to Airtricity... I am already with them,, but they have sent 3 people to ask me if I want to join./.. don't they have my address....

    Regarding TV licence. They don't need to visit your house to know if you have a TV, all the need to do is scan externally (like the Germans do) If you have an arial or disk they will automatically start posting you letters or bring you to court.

    By the way I only pay after about 10 reminders and when the inspector calls, I just say I totally forgot and then pay... I mean RTE is a joke.

    Why you may ask!..... Because the reception in Mayo is bad, (and I am not paying SKY to get it)... If RTE wants my money they should provide atlreast a quality reception.

    Atleast in the UK there is good quality FREEVIEW digital reception. Here is honestly pathetic. (unless you have sky)

    Do you really think that if nobody paid their licence at all the staff in RTE would not be paid? the money has to come from somewhere. My mates shop suffered from a lot of shoplifting, so he had to increase his prices to still turn a profit -same here, if the licence did not increase taxes would. As I said I hate the whole concept of the licence but its the law and I pay it, I would be an total & utter prick to expect others to pay for me.

    I don't like how RTE operate but it is also high due to people not paying. I think its ridiculous that it is not just included in normal taxation 99% of households are legally obliged to pay the licence (99% is the actual figure). In 2002, the rate of licence-fee evasion was estimated at 12%, so why not just include it in normal taxation? Why have all the cost of admin collecting these fees and chasing down and prosecuting these thieving cunts, and further taking up airtime with ads saying they are going to catch you. It is also unfair to people living alone, as they pay more for the same service.

    If you do not pay your licence you are a subhuman thieving cunt, end of story, you are stealing from me and anybody else who ends up paying your share.

    When starview dodgyboxes were discussed here people were banned & threatened to have their IPs sent to the authority. I find it strange the acceptance of this form of theft. In 2002 it was 12%, but boards seems to have a very high percentage of worthless thieving fuckers.

    It works both ways. I don't pay it myself because the house I just moved into didn't come with a TV. My folks pay it and there is NO value for money. Even shows you'd want to watch are on at 3am.
    And don't even start me on how they are still allowed to advertise. This is why I love the BBC.

    Erm not hiding and can't be arsed to answer the door anyway, I mean who is it gonna be? If it's one of my mates then they'll ring/text ahead to say they are calling down. Other than that I don't care who it is! Most of the time it's people from other apartments asking to be let in cos the left their swipe card at home so they can all go and ask me hole!

    I don't think many have actually heard themselves being called what they are, many might genuinely not even realise they are in effect thieves and that they are stealing from people. It might make them think twice about it -but then again many people would not care and have no shred of common decency & have no respect for fellow humans, just like burglars know they are scum and keep robbing.

    Many talk about it almost like its a "victimless crime" or something, I think if the government still want to insist on their ridiculous system then the ads should be changed and be more like the current insurance claim ones, talking about others premiums increasing.

    You get arsehole cunts saying they do it "on principle" -that would be like a shopkeeper fiddling the books to avoid paying his taxes on the principle that he did not vote for the current government and so doesn't want to pay their salaries, and lets everybody else's tax increase to cover his own shortfall.
