Most of the motoring press know no more about cars than the average Joe. Many know embarrassingly less judging by the utter sh1t they write.

If you're selective on the journalists you read and avoid the motoring equivalent of the sun (Auto Express and it's rendered images - I swear they must have people sitting around making up new cars at this stage) some are quite good.

Strangely I find Auto Express to be one of the better mags. The rendered images are crap but the car reviews are better that the Ford worshipping bullcrap in What Car?, Autocar, and to an extent, Car magazine.

It's usually the columns I go for. Steve Cropley and James Ruppert in Autocar are my favourite ones if I'm honest. Don't really like autocar roadtests as they seem to come straight from the brochure these days. Then the main one every week has a lot less info in it that it used to:mad:

The power of advertising is amazing with some of them:D

I find What Car? strangely biased towards VW. Where other magazines were lukewarm about the Mk6 Golf GTi, they were declaring it best in class.

Car Magazine have really lost it totally. It's a long way away from the days of LJK Setright and Russell Bulgin (who are now sadly deceased).

Regarding Autocar, the only excellent writer I find is Hilton Holloway. Some of his columns give great insight into automotive engineering and the industry in general.
