Will the combo's, such as the Edison, handle the DTT HD content?

Yes, they will and do handle the current HD RTNL2 test card just fine

what may i ask is a test card ( needed for tv3 apparently ) and do you have to order it seperatley

This is just a static picture on the TV screen, to allow you to tune to that particular station. Normally put there in advance of the station going live (TV3 on DTT), or when the station shuts down at night.

Bob all you need is to take the connection out of your sky box and plug it into the Combo box. You then also plug your aerial in to the back of the same box. In the case of the Edison mini 2n1 the guy selling them at SAORTV will actually pre program them to go (or you can scan yourself and delete what you dont want). Its €170 well spent. I had to watch analogue (the fuzzy stuff) last weekend to watch the Dubs play and hated that I had to (TV3 will not be on it til October). Its crystal on DTT - like sat.

You will also get a RTE News Now Channel that you dont get on analogue or elsewhere.

Heres what it looks like connections wise.

Guy who posted above you sells them.

id like to thank those who educated me in the past week regarding RTE digital,s service , i rooted around in my attic yesterday and connected my aerial ( which was lieing idle this past number of years ) to my sky + box , only learned in the past few days that a sky box is also a DB-T decoder , anyway , connected the aerial to the sky box and another cable from the sky box to the back of the tv , within three minutes my tv had found 15 RTE digital channels , most of them are radio channells but RTE 1 and RTE2 are crystal clear and every bit as good as through the sky sat subscription , also noticed that RTE have a news channell

TG4 or TV3 are not available however , not even highlighted , no attempt to find them ?????

Edision mini 2 in 1 - help required
(please point me in the right direction if this is in the wrong post)`

Setup was straight forward enough and I was able to receive DTT/SAT & SAT HD (e.g. BBC HD) and happy with my lot but noticed that when I change channels the sound/voice goes up a pitch or two and everyone talks like they're on helium. Tried the latest firmware update via USB but must have chosen the wrong option as my box displayed the word 'ASH' afterwards.
Got myself a null modem cable and attempted to re-flash and while it connects fine (with the Edision s/w) and appears to be updated to 100% when I disconnect the cable and restart the box it still shows ASH - any help would be appreciated (apologies if this is in the wrong thread...)

Thanks John Mac - I've been here already - good website with good information - unfortunatley I may have already done more harm than good...
Numerous flash attempts with the Edision software but to no avail - think I may have turned my box into a 'brick' - thanks anyway !

    Hi,
maybe somebody could help. I've just hooked up this box and so far everything is fine.

The original software seems to be from March 2010 and I was going to upload the FW on the http://www.argus-family.de/produktreceiverargusminiSATip.html page which seems to be dated last week (8-9-2010). Anyway the instructions are in german and I got a message saying "am I sure" about the upload as the BIN does not match so maybe I'm wiser not to bother with the software update and wait for somebody else to post this somewhere?

The Current F/W seems to have issues with the DTT channels.
Get the June update from Slegs www.saortv.com/forum

I believe that's the wrong box you selected for the update, there are a few models with similar names, the one you picked has no DTT tuner. I believe one of these is the correct one - http://www.edision-argus-vip.de/produktreceiverargusmini2in1.html or possibly this one http://www.edision-argus-vip.de/produktreceiverargusmini2in1ip.html.

I don't own one of those boxes but if I did I'd hold off doing any updates until It was recommended by slegs on one of the threads here or on the excellent saortv forum.

thanks for the advice.. i'm really enjoying the challenge of learning and figuring out the device despite my lack of german ..:)

A quick question on these boxes - do they have the facility via a powered RFoutlet to operate a magic eye?

Or do you have to have a remote extender?

Moving into an apartment that is wired for sat - but cables run into storage cupboard where shelf for sat box is located. So if I put box in there I won't be able to change channels unless I can use a Magic Eye (preferred option) or remote extender.

    Hello,
I'm just wondering if this is a http://www.argus-family.de/produktreceiverargusmini2in1.html firmware update IE the file with 25-10-10- v1.2.86

I tried to load it up but it was not accepted by the box.

my german is not great so maybe somebody has done this and can share the knowledge /benefit please?

Wrong box...you chose the 2 in 1 but you want the 2 in 1 IP

In most cases there is no reason to upgrade the firmware at all. It is mainly to resolve issues in Central Europe.

Flashing the box when you have no issues is just silly.

Lots of stuff gets lost in translation.

Put it this way, flash it with the wrong firmware and you will most likely KILL your box. An expensive lesson. :)

As an aside anyone who happens upon this thread who is looking for a box that combines Irish Digital TV and British Satellite in one box should also look at the "Ferguson Ariva HD combo" - €169 from satellite.ie. No more bills.

It allows you record Irish DTT whilst watching Satellite and vice versa.

All Sky boxes have RF loopthrough (and most have RF modulators) so it doesn't really matter which box he has, any would have done the same thing if the aerial had have been attached to it.

And the quoted post is from a year & a half ago & the guy who posted it has been banned in the meantime.

I suspect dwaned thinks the Sky box was decoding the Saorview signal & wants one the same ...

Right I see, so his sky box probably wasn't working as a dual box then...

No probably about it. Skybox is satellite only & limited even for that.

can you advise what combo box is the best currently on the market?
is there a box now available that doesnt require a UHF aerial to receive the DTT channels/ just satellite required?
what is the best value for money and where can i buy it this week?

    many thanks in advance
