And Smell looks even weirder in this :pac:

Do ya wanna suck me tits?

Well that wasn't very good. I'm sure it will improve...

Missed it, but I'm sure it'll be on their website at some stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 729 ✭✭✭Kazooie

Little dissapointed but I'm sure it will pick up. As someone said it did seem a lot more light herarted than the film but more serious stuff will surely come up in the remaining three episodes.

Is the bully also in Shameless? He reminded me a lot of the gay guy from that. Verry funny in this too. 'Fcuk off with your ginger chips'

Absolutely loved this last night! Well worth the wait. The only disappointing thing is having to wait a whole week for the next one!

On another note, does anyone know the name of the actress that played Lol's mam? I've seen her in other stuff but I can't think what and it's wrecking my head! Had a good look on Google but no joy.

Was interested to know how the scene between Shaun and Combo at the start in the car came about.. judging by Thomas Turgoose's youthful appearance, it must have been a deleted scene from the movie or something.

I could be wrong but I think that's part of the alternative ending. It's on disc 2 (extras) of the DVD.

I enjoyed it personally. On it's own it wasn't the best but I have high hopes for the next 3 parts. As a whole I can't wait to watch it in a row instead of one a week.

What happened to Pukey and Kes?

I've seen her in something else as well, I'm willing that wager that it's Brookside.

Hmm, I never watched Brookside so I don't think it's that. When it appears on 4od I'll check the credits and see who she is

I loved the film, and enjoyed the first episode, glad to see they're maintaining a quality soundtrack too. Looking forward to seeing Stephen Graham return, I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Combo!

Did anyone think that Joe Gilgun (Woody) looked the spitting image of a young Paul Weller?

Also, do you reckon the man that brought Shaun to the hospital is going to figure throughout the series? There was a couple of lingering shots of him towards the end..

i taught it was a bit meh tbh with you nothing much happening

taught the "pop video" scene at the end was as corny as hell

and why do they call Shaun ginger, he ain't ginger

Really, really enjoyed it. Loved the film and loved this, was in stitches nearly the whole way through. The scooter lads were a laugh, Joe Dempsie was great in skins and he's great in this.

Soundtrack was the business, some great tunes there. Dying for next week's episode already.

Ah, come on. You weren't, I would say. What small part didn't have you in stitches? I thought it was a bit of a let down if I am being honest. It pretty much meandered - no real plot as such. There was no real heart in the characterisation unlike the film.

Lol actress was in Plan B's video 'She Said'
She plays his girlfriend crying in the gallery.

Meh, was alright. Felt more like This Is Shameless '86 than the film itself.

I'll give it a go next week to see if it picks up. I couldn't stop staring at Smell, she looks and sounds so....................odd.

I just watched This is England there again and I'm a bit confused. Combo's two mates, you know the ones who are in the mini series as well (one of them had a heart attack in last night's show), they seemed to be genuine racists. Particularly Banjo. I mean Banjo held Shaun down as Combo kicked the **** out of Milky. The other tried to take a dump in a shop owned by a pakistani.

So I'm a bit confused as to how those two could become such good mates with Woody and co. Perhaps the fact that Combo attacked them made them realise that they were listening to the rantings of a misguided psychopath.

seems to be a lot of people whinging about it being slow or not as authentic as the first one. that seems odd to me as it was only the first quarter that was on last night. to properly appreciate it do you not think that the whole four episodes should be watched, preferably together?

To all those who felt it was a bit "Shameless-lite", Charlie Brooker says it apparently gets very dark..

I reckon so, he's an amazing actor. He was brilliant in London to Brighton. I can't wait to see what he does in this!

Damn! I missed the first episode due to being in the pub watching the Irish game. Is it being repeated on C4/E4 before the second episode airs next week??

For those of you who weren't too happy about the slow start, keep in mind that's it is a four part series and it's warming up. MAJOR spoiler alert!
Keep an eye on Lol as it would appear that she is going to be the main character in this one. According to a preview I read, "something happens which changes things for her forever"

    You have two choices:

    a) Online on 4OD:

    b) Watch the repeat of episode 1 at 11pm on Monday on Channel 4.
    Channel 4 11:00pm Mon 13 Sep
    Season 1 Episode 1 of 4
Four-part follow-up to Shane Meadows' Bafta Award-winning film This Is England. It is 1986, and Shaun is preparing to leave school and enter the adult world, but all he really wants to do is enjoy his freedom with sweetheart Smell. Meanwhile, the day of Woody and Lol's wedding is fast approaching, but a medical emergency places the big day in jeopardy. Starring Thomas Turgoose, Rosamund Hanson, Joe Gilgun and Vicky McClure

    I'm gonna assume:
Something happens to her mother, possibly abused (killed?) by the beardy boyfriend bloke as I think the lingering the shots of Lol and him seem to establish a connection between them.

I thought the first episode was great. I love Shane Meadows directing style and his effective use of music. Wasn't much going on story wise which is probably why a lot of people are just like 'meh'. I reckon taken as a whole the 4 episodes will be something special.

I'm so tempted to read the spoilers but I wont!

Another thing I noticed from watching the film and Tuesday's episode is that Woody, while a warm character, can be quite gutless.

He didn't step in when Combo was making Milky extremely uncomfortable.

Then on Tuesday he waits until the last moment to bolt on Lol. To add to that, he tries to use his friend's heart attack as the reason why he bolted.

I really expect to see some big character growth from Woody over the next 3 eps.

I'd say Woody will prove himself before the series is over.
Is there new characters in the gang? A few of the women? I can remember lol and your woman with the big head but what about the others?

I found the first show quite decent. It's a good introduction.
It got a bit slated in some reviews.
