The bottom line is this has no relevance to life in Galway, why do new posters make the daftest threads(usually looking for info most of us get ourselves- where to buy an item, checking B+B's/pubs etc....)

At a push he could have made a thread in After Hours called something like ''students.... no manners in the 21st century?''...

Oh you'll love this thread so!

I hate loud attention seeking first year sh1ts, You should have went over and sat in between them and said "the girl working here is my girlfriend, do you want to come outside and repeat what you were saying about her, I will wait outside for you" Then walk outside and stroll off.

What happens if the three lads follow him out? It seems as if you haven't thought this through.

Were the chips any good? Prefer Charcoal grill myself, think McDonogh's is living off it's rep.

they sound like twats. so he was a student what's the problem with OP saying this in his discription if he was actually a student?!

It's like complaining "Oh why did you feel the need to say that he was wearing a red t-shirt?" Because he was wearing a red t-shirt!!!

And I wouldn't have said anything to them if I was on my own either. I know from past experiences that most of time no-one else will back you up they would just stand there with eyes fixated on floor and then you would be ridiculed by the group.

These guys sound ignorant in every sense of the word.

In my experience attention seeking first years are all mouth, and i seriously doubt any would actually come outside with me, but i always have my backup plan of running and crying like a girl :pac:

And to those who said I should have said something to them, why? I'd only be subject to abuse too, and would my saying something change these guys...I don't think so

This is the only thing that bothers me about what you're saying. I've no objection to a generalised lambasting of students, because many of them are arseholes, to be fair - but the attitude you display here is almost as bad as the attitude of the folks you're complaining about.
You should have said something to them so that they knew not everyone was impressed with their carry-on, so that they might stop, so that when you come on here to whine you can back up your complaints with some affirmative action on your part.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke (?)
"Who will pin the bell on the cat?" - Aesop.

How about next time you encounter behaviour like this you grow a pair and do something about it? Sure, they might start slagging you instead - but so what? You could at least convince yourself that you'd acted the hero. Or maybe they'd shut up, in which case everybody wins.
Or maybe they'd follow you outside and beat seven kinds of **** out of you, but from your description, they don't seem the type.
"It is easier to point the finger than lend a helping hand" - someone or other.

i think that unless you actually have dealings with students you don't realise how utterly thick they can be. People tend to think that they have some sort of brain in their head to be in college - and maybe they do, when it comes to looking at a book. The reality is however that they have no idea how to act in public - its like they are let loose from a cage and they behave like animals - try carrying them around town in a taxi at night, try living beside them, or in an area nearby and you will soon realise what they are, and its not pretty.

What does them being students have to do with anything?
Did you ask for a manager?
Did you tell them to shut up or even threaten to call Mill Street?

Or say to the staff you were uncomfortable and you want to leave so eject them or give me a refund?

All of these would get you satisfaction

Why did you not tell them how you felt there and then as opposed to going on some forum about it?

Again where is the evidence that these guy's actually were students?

Moreover, why is the thread title allowed to remain as it is when even the OP only suggests that the culprits may have been students.

My God what is it with some people on here. Someone starts a thread and all you get is why didn't you do this, who cares. Seriously this place is turning more like after hours every day where people leave comments just to get a few thanks. Seriously if you don't give a $hit don't click on the bloody thread and don't go wasting more of your precious time replying to it with stupid worthless comments.

I don't see how feelingstressed's & the keen edge's post factor into your comments?
They offered two opinions as to what the OP should have done in the situation (advice) and check that the OP was making a fair association/wasn't being prejudiced against students.

Ah come off it. I don't think the OP came on here looking for advice. All he/she was doing was letting us know what happened and then got a load of keyboard warriors saying the OP should have stood up to them or got management to sort it out. Management should have been sorting it out already as if your in an establishment and there are people in there making it uncomfortable for other patrons then they should be asked to leave. It should not be up to other customers to try and get them to act civilised.

Maybe I should have taken this to R&R but it's so annoying when people reply with stupid and snide comments to a thread just to make themselves seem :cool:.

Well, aren't so many of you marvellous to judge what the OP did or didn't/should or shouldn't have done in a situation you have no direct experience of? Well done and be proud of yourselves. Some of you would want to be a lot less quick to attack or be snide and to think before you post. Fine, if you want to make suggestions, but do you have to do it in such a judgemental and superior way, especially when you offer no evidence of heroics in which you yourself have followed your own advice?Sometimes people post threads to let off steam, why not just let them do it without having to be offensive in your replies? A rare few dissenters have been pleasant in their replies, shame the rest couldn't do the same...

If he did that then he would be a dickhead!!! Best just to say "F**in dickheads" as you walk passed them and watch them freak out as you leave...

the OP had every right to come on here and post - that's what this place is for.

as far as the attackers on here - well everyone thinks they are precious and their opinions are the only ones that matter. Sooner or later tho, people wise up and realise that everyone has the same right to post on here, without being attacked or judge by someone else behind a screen.

plenty of people understand how students can act when they are free from their mammy's apron strings. nice to see it highlighted - maybe they can read this and wise up.

How my posting seem snide, worthless or careless is beyond me.
In fact IMO it is your comments that seem characteristic of the thanks whores you despise.

The OP started a thread with the title 3 students in McDonaghs chip shop.

The OP then linked his initial post to the title thread that the culprits were students, with that old chestnut that they were students by the sound of it.

Given that the subject of the thread, was that of racism. And that this racism was allegedly dispensed by a particular group of people, namely students, it was not unreasonable to question the OP as to how he ascertained they were such.

The OP is a newbie, and so can be forgive for starting such a emotive thread without sourcing fact, or at least elabrating on his source, until some 25 subsequent posts and an elapsed time of two and half hours later.
However your posting about other poster comments being sh1t and worthless is surprising for someone with 1200 plus posting.

know how you feel op, had to sit and watch 3/4 students racially abuse the staff in supermacs one evening and were totally disgusted when one of the "hard" boys decided he was going to fire his tray and remaining food on the floor for the "black ****er" to clean!!

I got up out of my seat and cleaned up the tray and food off the floor and left it back on their table right in front of them and couldn't apolagise enough to the poor member of staff cleaning other tables.

if I had a baseball bat that eve i'd have got 4 attempted murder charges I was that angry with their ****ehawking

Granted the OP's reply above was left after yours so maybe it could have been stated in the original post how the OP knew they were students. The reason I replied is just that there is so many threads on boards been ruined on the first page or so with daft comments trying to belittle the OP. You could pick any thread in the after hours forum as an example.

This is true but having a quiet word with management will alert them to the issue.
I see a post, I offer a solution for next time. I'm not funny enough to work in smart and witty replies, I just posted a list and all of these would help

Oh dear.... i'm going back as a ''mature'' student this year(i'm 24), so i take it when i start i'll become your generalisation

Why not say ''some people these days...''.... you do know a massive portion of people now go to college?... it's not a certain type of person.

This is the Jedward Generation, the spawn of the Celtic Tiger. Superficial, materialistic, selfish, arragont and brainwashed by MTV. Their values system has been corrupted through exposure to American culture. Generation Haughey and Generation Ahern gave rise to Generation Jedward as traditional Fianna Fáil skullduggery merged with international finance capital. We are responsible for the creation of this monster. They are our Frankenstein.
