What does them being students have to do with anything?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,969 ✭✭✭✭mikemac

Did you ask for a manager?
Did you tell them to shut up or even threaten to call Mill Street?

Or say to the staff you were uncomfortable and you want to leave so eject them or give me a refund?

All of these would get you satisfaction

3 racist ***** in a chippy, and the issue you find with it, is that the op described them as students (which they were)

Probably a bunch of yokels that were never in civilisation before without their mammies.

To some people, people from the next village down are foreigners.

I'm obviously not defending what they were saying.

If it had been three accountants or three salesmen, do you think the OP would've mentioned it in the title?

Hardly convincing evidence of their occupation.

You're just a typical irish person just sitting there and listening to it and not complaining. Except behind a keyboard when it makes no odds.

If i was in a establishment and i didn't like the carry on i would:

    1. Leave the premises

    2. Complain to the manager/supervisor

    3. Contact the gardaí

    You went for option 4.

    4. Keyboard Warrior

Is it not ironic that the guys shouting keyboard warrior are doing it from behind a keyboard. Guys, the fella came on here, as most of you do, to start a discussion about something he thought was wrong. This is one of the main reasons people use boards.ie.

Instead all he got was the usual boards BS of

    1. Leave the premises

    2. Complain to the manager/supervisor

    3. Contact the gardaí

    4. Dont you dare complain on here

Why not discuss the inappropriate behavior of these so called students than attack the poster. Defend them, condemn them, discuss the thread. Dont always attack or ridicule the poster.

Chances are by the way that they were students. He "said by the sounds of them" which means they could have said any number of things about college or starting college etc etc.

They were talking about their college course.......

A bit more info, I was just behind an old man about to walk into mcDonaghs, when this guy (in the red t-shirt) nearly pushes the older guy over trying to get in the door before him.

I order my food and sit down, 3 lads were near me (including the guy with the red t-shirt) they were very loud, the t-shirt guy was answering his phone every two mins and almost shouting down his phone, which the other two thought even this was funny (he was talking about college stuff) then t-shirt guy starts making comments (as a song) on the foreign cleaner ( using words like, african hiv, aids etc) he then walks up to get a knapkin ans starts marking faces and dirty looks behind the workers back.
He's two friends are laughing away....they looked so stupid, but they actualy think theyr'e cool to be like this
Also while this is going on there is a young family sitting very nearby too
and lots of people were looking at them and very annoyed by they're behavior

And to those who said I should have said something to them, why? I'd only be subject to abuse too, and would my saying something change these guys...I don't think so

I'm angry that these 3 guys embrassed us (in front of tourists) as Irish people

The bottom line is this has no relevance to life in Galway, why do new posters make the daftest threads(usually looking for info most of us get ourselves- where to buy an item, checking B+B's/pubs etc....)

At a push he could have made a thread in After Hours called something like ''students.... no manners in the 21st century?''...

This is just very sad. When i see people acting this way (when they drop litter, show no respect for elderly/different/disabled/weaker/foreign people or just act like ignorants and dickheads i feel both: anger and pity on them, because they just must be so bored and unhappy really ... and the worse thing is for 100% their parents are not much better...
Imagine how beautiful the world would be without those types.. :(, they can spoil your dinner, your holidays, your sleep even (if you are lucky to have them as neighbours)...
I used to fight this kind of behaviour when i was younger... and i always thought people around me will help, support, shame those who caused the trouble, but too many times i was left alone and exposed to even worse abuse or even danger.. so i so understand you OP. Sometimes its not worth it -they wouldn't get it anyway...

Jesus, the poor guy only posted here to get feedback from other galweigans about what they would have done in the same situation probably and what does he get? Resounding negativity mostly.........

Why not make a constructive point people rather than just banging on about how daft he was for even posting in the first place/newbies blah blah blah........

I'm not surprised you were outraged OP and I'm not surprised you didnt say anything to them directly about their idiotic behaviour......sounds like you would have become their next target......and why should you have to be the one to leave while you're in the middle of your meal? They're the ones in the wrong not you.....I would have mentioned it to a member of staff.....discreetly, I'm surprised they didn't notice anyway by the sound of your post.

Hopefully your next trip to McDs will be idiot-free.

    BB

I hate loud attention seeking first year sh1ts, You should have went over and sat in between them and said "the girl working here is my girlfriend, do you want to come outside and repeat what you were saying about her, I will wait outside for you" Then walk outside and stroll off.

What happens if the three lads follow him out? It seems as if you haven't thought this through.

they sound like twats. so he was a student what's the problem with OP saying this in his discription if he was actually a student?!

It's like complaining "Oh why did you feel the need to say that he was wearing a red t-shirt?" Because he was wearing a red t-shirt!!!

And I wouldn't have said anything to them if I was on my own either. I know from past experiences that most of time no-one else will back you up they would just stand there with eyes fixated on floor and then you would be ridiculed by the group.

These guys sound ignorant in every sense of the word.

This is the only thing that bothers me about what you're saying. I've no objection to a generalised lambasting of students, because many of them are arseholes, to be fair - but the attitude you display here is almost as bad as the attitude of the folks you're complaining about.
You should have said something to them so that they knew not everyone was impressed with their carry-on, so that they might stop, so that when you come on here to whine you can back up your complaints with some affirmative action on your part.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke (?)
"Who will pin the bell on the cat?" - Aesop.

How about next time you encounter behaviour like this you grow a pair and do something about it? Sure, they might start slagging you instead - but so what? You could at least convince yourself that you'd acted the hero. Or maybe they'd shut up, in which case everybody wins.
Or maybe they'd follow you outside and beat seven kinds of **** out of you, but from your description, they don't seem the type.
"It is easier to point the finger than lend a helping hand" - someone or other.

i think that unless you actually have dealings with students you don't realise how utterly thick they can be. People tend to think that they have some sort of brain in their head to be in college - and maybe they do, when it comes to looking at a book. The reality is however that they have no idea how to act in public - its like they are let loose from a cage and they behave like animals - try carrying them around town in a taxi at night, try living beside them, or in an area nearby and you will soon realise what they are, and its not pretty.

My God what is it with some people on here. Someone starts a thread and all you get is why didn't you do this, who cares. Seriously this place is turning more like after hours every day where people leave comments just to get a few thanks. I don't see how feelingstressed's & the keen edge's post factor into your comments?
They offered two opinions as to what the OP should have done in the situation (advice) and check that the OP was making a fair association/wasn't being prejudiced against students.

Ah come off it. I don't think the OP came on here looking for advice. All he/she was doing was letting us know what happened and then got a load of keyboard warriors saying the OP should have stood up to them or got management to sort it out. Management should have been sorting it out already as if your in an establishment and there are people in there making it uncomfortable for other patrons then they should be asked to leave. It should not be up to other customers to try and get them to act civilised.

Maybe I should have taken this to R&R but it's so annoying when people reply with stupid and snide comments to a thread just to make themselves seem :cool:.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 144 ✭✭lyverbird1

Well, aren't so many of you marvellous to judge what the OP did or didn't/should or shouldn't have done in a situation you have no direct experience of? Well done and be proud of yourselves. Some of you would want to be a lot less quick to attack or be snide and to think before you post. Fine, if you want to make suggestions, but do you have to do it in such a judgemental and superior way, especially when you offer no evidence of heroics in which you yourself have followed your own advice?Sometimes people post threads to let off steam, why not just let them do it without having to be offensive in your replies? A rare few dissenters have been pleasant in their replies, shame the rest couldn't do the same...

If he did that then he would be a dickhead!!! Best just to say "F**in dickheads" as you walk passed them and watch them freak out as you leave...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,210 ✭✭✭dolphin city

the OP had every right to come on here and post - that's what this place is for.

as far as the attackers on here - well everyone thinks they are precious and their opinions are the only ones that matter. Sooner or later tho, people wise up and realise that everyone has the same right to post on here, without being attacked or judge by someone else behind a screen.

plenty of people understand how students can act when they are free from their mammy's apron strings. nice to see it highlighted - maybe they can read this and wise up.
