Looks like Ryanair is leading the World once again when it comes to coming up with novel ways to save costs.

M.O.L will scrap the co-pilot and train in a stewardess to be able to land a plane should the Captin not be able to.

    http://news.scotsman.com/uk/Michael-O39Leary-call-to-scrap.6513610.jp

But would you fly on a commercial ircraft that has only 1 pilot?

(and I know its a publicity stunt)

    No they won't.

Great idea, the pilot has a heart attack and then even if he manages to ring the bell for the steward he might not be able to unlock the door. What could possibly go wrong?

Wait this is AH, perhaps replace them all with trained chimps?

    O'Leary does it again.

Anyone with a right mind would see that this is a wind-up from the following:
"If the pilot has an emergency, he rings the bell, he calls her in," O'Leary said. "She could take over."

Michael O'Leary in outlandish headline grabbing claim shocker!

I wonder how many 1 euro flights he could subsidise if he reduced his own salary to an average of what he pays his Ryanair staff ?

I bet he hasn't thought of that as a way of saving the company money

If anything, the OP thread title is the alarmist thing here. Ryanair is not scrapping Co-Pilots.

The OP is a tabloid journo !!

Obviously a publicity stunt. You cant train a woman to land a plane.

I'm sure he's thought of it and then realised he isn't a hippy.

    Exactly.

There are too many international adopted rules and regulations in this area alone.
The man is talking thru his ass again for the sake of publicity.
    Can't happen, won't happen.
Not one European country flight authority will allow this stunt to come to pass.

Why would he do that? He deserves every penny he earns, the man is a business genius no matter what personal feelings people have toward him. He almost single handily changed air travel so that it is accessible to everyone.

O'Leary only said that because he realised he has not been in the news recently and he needed to say something sensational to grab the headlines again.

Better still. Why not make the co-pilot air-hosts, drop a few air-hostesses that can't fly and then you don't have to worry about training people to land a 737.

    Doesnt make sense really.

Or equip all the passengers with parachutes. Save on landing fees.

It's hilarious that people get angry at O'Leary when he's clearly winding them up. O'Leary is like the playground prankster and all these other guys are the kids that take everything literally and fail to see it for what it is

The lack of comprehension and un-awareness of actual reality in this country astounds me sometimes.

Well once in a while a bright young "spark" actually (to his/her credit) manages to see something for what it really is.
Its to the likes of them I would trust with my future.
