If your unfortunate to own a dog in Iran from this week onwards - you might be in trouble it seems.

Fresh from banning women from watching wrestling and men from sporting mullet hairstyles, the Iranian regime is targeting a new source of western subversion: dogs and cats.

All advertisements for pets, pet shops, pet food and products are to be prohibited, the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance has announced.
The edict is based on a fatwa issued by Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, 86, a hardliner who lives in the holy city of Qom but has an office in Harrow Road, North London, to promote Islam in Britain.

He declared dogs, in particular, to be unclean under Sharia, condemned Iranian dog owners for “blindly imitating the West” and warned that their infatuation would lead to “evil outcomes”, according to the state-run Mehr news agency.

Poor Fido and Tiddle days might be numbered!

dogs seem to split the hardline muslim camps! osama himself is said to keep a kennell of salukis and when not ridding he world of infidels,its said loves nothing more then a days hunting with his dogs. the saudi royals also love their salukis. muslim tribes across the mid east and north africa keep and brred hounds. i know the afghans and pakistans love their dogs especially in the tribal areas. the iranians dont like em?? nuke em.

Are any of you capable of like one thought that doesn't increase your thank whore count? right now that means that over there thousands of dogs and cats will die (because chances are owing one will result in a death penalty) and I assume 98% of people on here have owned a pet at some point in their life so know what it feels like to lose one so as if their life isn't **** enough over there they can't even have a pet now and what's next after this, the regime only ever takes things away to control so in a year they'll all get use to there being no dogs/cats so it'll be time to tighten the thumb screws again and whats next? it's not a joking matter

Firstly, no. I live for the sheer thrill of a thanked post.

Secondly, it's so incredibly obvious that this is stupid, that there's little else to do than make a joke. What else can you do? I already said there'd be uproar in the west if animals die, maybe in a joking manner, but the point remains, Terry made a rather intelligent point. What do you expect exactly? There's not much debate to be had here, when there is in other threads with different topics you'll find some extremely interesting and erudite posts.
