Male or Female button?

    If there was a little button under your username that was coloured blue for a boy or pink for a girl would you use it to let people know whether you are male or female?

    My previous incarnation, Strange Loop, was a gender neutral creation, no overtly female posts, but with a love heart for an avatar, who amassed profile visitors at 10 times the rate I drew as a male poster.

    Odd.

    I wouldn't push the pink button if I was a lady.

    They're just generally accepted designated symbols for the genders. The same as the words 'women' and 'men' are artificially designated symbols for same.

    Because young girls in our society live in a sea of pink. It's a nonsense, a complete fabrication. In the 1800s, pink and red was considered too aggressive a colour for women and calming blue was considered more appropriate.

    Regardless, I find our obsession with pointing out and exaggerating the differences between men and women unnecessary, damaging and really quite pointless. Who cares if the person posting is male or female? Is Boards some sort of pick-up joint? Or is it that we want to be able to pre judge and dismiss people's posts on the basis of their gender?

    Gah, I'm over-reacting but man this part of the internet really p1sses me off!
