    Thanks for the reply,

I haven't done the exam yet, how will I find out who corrects the paper?

    Hi Daisy,

The lecturer who taught the module corrects the repeat paper as repeats are a retake of the same module.

I failed one module and my qca is just under 2 but if i pass my repeat it will be over.
If worst comes to worst and i fail the repeat would i have to repeat the entire year ?

    Hi Mici,

If that exam is the only deficient grade (F or D) that you have and you fail it in the repeats, then the most likely outcome will be that you will have to repeat the module next semester i.e. on a link-in basis. You cannot progress to the next year if your program until you pass the module. If you have a number of deficient grades, then I would need to look at your transcript before I could give you a definite answer.

I am about to commence my second year in ul studying a coarse in engineering and Im not happy. After looking at this years points for a coarse I wanted last year, I want to study that coarse now as the entry points dropped this year in my favour. I just want to know is there anyway ul will let me change over to a first year student in this coarse this september? I did not apply to the cao.

    Hey there,

If you have the points for the course, you can apply for an internal transfer to Student Status Committee http://www2.ul.ie/web/WWW/Services/Student_Affairs/Student_Administration/Student_Academic_Administration/Student_Status, which is due to meet on Sept 15th. That committee will make the decision and if you are granted the transer bear in mind that you will have to pay tuition fees for the new course. I would also advise that you attend some classes from the course, into which you want to transfer to make sure that you are as up to date as possible.

If you have any other questions, you can get me on Aoife.Finnerty@ul.ie.

    Hey there,

You will be sent out all the information about the course by UL. Orientation is next week - Wednesday to Friday and lectures start on Monday 6th.

    Welcome to UL,

Soon to be first year! I qualify for the HEAR scheme and am just wondering is it true that if you're not in receipt of a grant that Access will pay for it?

    Hi Mulner,

Yes all the information that you need should be contained in the letter. If you have any questions, then you can come back here to ask them anyway.

    Hey ES,

That would be a welfare query. Derek handles all the financial stuff. I handle all the pure education stuff, so courses, lecturers, etc. His thread is called "Welfare Queries" and I posted a link to it earlier in this thread.

A link-in is repeating the module(s) you failed without the rest of the modules from the year that you are currently in. You cannot progress into the next year of your program with deficient grades/a QCA below 2. Effectively it is repeating a year, but only the minimum in that year.

does the online enrolement also have to be done by the 3rd september? and do we just go in the day our course is scheduled during orientation?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 918 ✭✭✭Agent_99

I enrolled today and it states that it will email me and I have to print and sign the declaration. I have not received any email yet and will it send it to my own personal email or UL one?

Same- Apparently you have to pay the registration before you can enrol (It says it on the original email they sent out which I've only now read..) so perhaps if you've not done that either it might explain why no email yet.

I printed out the confirmation page that confirms enrolment.
    It States............

"You have completed the online enrolment process for the 2010/11 academic Year"
"Your online enrolment receipt has been sent to your email account. You must print the online enrolment receipt, Sign it and bring it to orientation."

    "Good Luck ............etc etc etc

    Hi everyone,

I just thought I'd start this thread so anyone with specific course/education questions for me, could post here to get an answer. So if you've any questions, let loose..

Is it possible to transfer at the start of first year IF you have the required points and grade requirements (i.e UCD - UL etc)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 215 ✭✭Ms. Education

    Hey everone,

It's great that you've all been posting on UL related stuff and information sharing but the way the thread is at the moment is causing problems in terms of me replying to queries on it. At the moment I'm reading a page of posts trying to discern questions from it, which isn't what I was hoping for when I set the thread up. The reason that I set this thread up was so that I didn't have to go through multiple threads trying to find education related questions, they would all be in the same place and in a really easy readble format. At the moment they're not, so I'd really appreciate if you wouldn't reply to questions on the page on the forum (there's always PMs or setting up a new thread). I know boards is a public forum, I know I don't have any right or ownership of the thread and I'm not trying censor. I'm just asking as a favour so that I don't miss really important questions from students because I'm trying to go through conversations and post after post.

    Thanks,

    Aoife

    Hi Ciaran,

Moodle is an online learning site used by certain lecturers in UL, usually as an alternative to Sulis. When you try to log in you can go to the section which explains what moodle is for more detailed information.

    All the best,

    Aoife
