Yeah, so did I. Dublin on 3rd September. The vast amount of people at it will be quite an eye-opener I should think.

Being a Pilot myself it's beyond me why one would want to spend their days pushing tin, the salary is unbelievably juicy though.

ATControllers have one of the highest suicide rates in the world.

Good luck to all going for it.

 What use is this to anyone, apart from letting us know you're a big fancy pilot?

Cork airport hardly gets that hectic that I'd go over the edge:pac:

Lol, genie-mac, didn't expect that response.

Well, I informed you about a high suicide rate, surely that counts for something?

Better mention this last bit isn't aimed at anyone in particular, wouldn't want you to take another bite out of me...

And there's no way an ATController needs a Class 1 Medical, 3 at most I would have thought.

More than likely that's due to ATC holding aircraft at either Dunkettle or Carrigaline and letting one or two into the TMA at a time.

Basically planes need to be separated in 3 dimension by a numerical quantity so a good understaanding of geometry, numeracy and spatial reasoning is really really important.
I'd read up on the 4 Dimensional Trajectory if one is interested in becoming a Tin Pusher.

Theres a multistory one right next to it. If that closes early (doubt it does) Get a parking disk and park up O' Curry street and walk down.

    -Unbelievably juicy salary
-nice work environment where you work with all different types of people
-employed by the state and not being at the hands of big companies/airliners
-not staying in hotels half your life
-not having to invest 1000s into your training without even knowing if you can get a job, and not having to continue that investment for more types/keeping yourself current ,etc .

Theyre two completely different types of jobs.

You will have to pay the IAA €50000 back for your initial training.I think its over 5 years.

Oh I totally agree, i.e totally different jobs. I'm not picking a fight, if my initial post comes across that way that wasn't the aim, nor to start a War over the whole thing.

I was simply stating a fact, huge pressure in say JFK or London.

I personally prefer my line of work, I'm sure you prefer yours.

There is however a payback scheme, 40 odd k I think.

I don't think anyone other than the IAA would know that number, so you'd have to ask them.

Maybe I got hit with the ' Stupid Stick ' but I presumed ALL applicants who met the educational requirements were invited to the initial test

I thought the same , until i hear of people that werent called then i will stick with that assumption, they couldnt of properly evaluated all those forms in such a short time, especially with all this talk of loads coming in on last day of deadline.

How do you know there's a pilot in the room, because he tells you ;)

If there's one thing ATC aint, it's boring. It's obvious you've never set foot in an ATC centre in your life.

Best of luck to all who apply.

I got called but a buddy of mine didn't. Unless he hears in the morning.

I've been in quite a few Towers, (drop the Ivory in why don't you Blade Slapper) in many countries, anyone in the aviation scene knows a box of beer to the Tin Pushers is worth it's weight in Gold.

The boring comment was just a flip of the bird, to that bird over her comment. I didn't realise the post she replied to might have sound condescending, as it wasn't meant to in the first place.

The 3rd of September. What a wholly inconvenient date for me. What you all think the chances of being able to change it are?
