Just thought I'd start a thread for DCS:- Warthog as news about it is beginning to trickle out.

SimHQ were at the E3 expo checking out Thrustmaster's new Warthog HOTAS, of course, how would you demo a ~€400 stick? that's right.........

Special SimHQ Preview Hands-on: DCS: A-10C Warthog.. Some nice features unveiled, such as an interactive JTAC/FAC.

Engadget were also at E3 checking out the HOTAS with DCS and LO:FC2

New Vid showing the A-10C. Note that this Vid is from "The Battle Sim", which is DCS's military cousin. However, although TBS and DCS share much of the same code, there is no player controlled commander or FAC in DCS Warthog as far as I know.

The second Producers Note Video is out, detailing the Start up procedure for the A-10C

Small note from the Devs about the Vid............

Please note that this note is based on Alpha code and far from complete. We feel it better to release such videos now based on pre-release code than wait until the game is about done.
This note takes place at a work-in-progress version of the new Nevada (Nellis AFB) terrain. We wanted to give you a little preview of this new terrain even though it is incomplete. No noise map yet and some issues with close range shadows.

    Some new screens.
Attached are four new DCS: A-10C Warthog screen shots that show off some of the Nevada range, new squadrons markings, and payload options. This is still very much WIP.

We are currently in the process of converting to DX11, so aspects of the game are not looking so great during this transition. After the conversion is done and the game is looking good again, I hope to create the next video note.

Today we have some work-in-progress screen shots of Nellis AFB from the Nevada map. Although still under development with a fair amount of work still to be done (object placement, lights, and texture debugging), it's at the point that you can get a feel for the base and level of detail.

Yes, that's also a new F-15C model for DCS.

Unlike most other aspects of DCS: A-10C, the Nevada map has been a joint project between the Eagle Dynamics team, luckybob9, and Zimster.

New Black Sea map airbases for A-10C include:

    Mozdok
    Tbilisi Lochini
    Soganlug
    Vaziani

    Updated airbases:

    Batumi

    Just a quick question...

Are these the same people that built LOMAC? If so Is lock on flaming cliffs I and II an upgrade of LOMAC

Is this an upgraded version of that sim with just the one plane ?

Many thanks and forgive my ignorance but I am getting real confused now with all the websites

    http://lockon.co.uk/
    http://www.simhq.com/
    http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/

    etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,241 ✭✭✭Nate--IRL--

Lock On: Modern Air Combat was the original
Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 was the Su-25T addon to that.
Digital Combat Simulator:- Ka-50 Black Shark was a standalone sim using a vastly upgraded Lock on engine.
Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 2 :- was the Lock On planes brought into this upgraded engine. (If you have LOMAC, FC1 is not needed for FC2 BTW)
DCS:- A-10C Warthog :- Is a further evolution of what went before.

As for just being one plane, the DCS line of simulations is a whole order of magnitude deeper than Lock On. Every system is modelled for that plane, every single system, unlike Lock On which was fairly simplistic. The Startup vid in the above posts should give you an idea. Of course, if you don't want to have this complexity there are options to turn it off.

The A-10C is based off a simulator they did for the US Air Force, so it's pretty much as real as it gets.

The best bit about DCS is that if you own DCS: Black Shark, you get all the upgrades & improvements of DCS: Warthog (except the A-10C itself) for free in a patch. Lock on however is not going to be evolved further, it's finished after FC2 AFAIK.

That might be a while :)

Anyway, you should get most of the Improvements + additions in Warthog, for free, in a patch for Black Shark. I know the Ka-50 didn't float your boat but I've a feeling you'll like the A-10C.

EDIT:- oh and SimHQ had a quick look at the current beta. http://www.simhq.com/_air13/air_460a.html

I'm sure I'll love A10C, but I really need a new graphics card, joystick, throttle quadrant, another 2GB RAm and ideally Track IR to play it properly. Since I'm unemployed it's going to take a while to save for all that, and even then that's low priority in the saving list!

Well, I'm flying Beta 3 at the moment. It's pretty damned complicated. Flying isn't a problem, getting used to the systems is! I've had it about a week and am only starting to vaguely understand the systems now... put it like this - I haven't used any weapons yet, and only today have I started to get into the air.

In summary, it's hard work but a lot of fun.

Yea, I've just given up. Haven't flown it in 3 weeks. Too much to learn and not enough time. I might give it another look when it's released.

Beta 4 is out. See here.... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=63964
    Wags wrote: »
Although there are a few issues I'm not happy about in beta 4, it is now available for download. Please note that it is still a beta and NOT a release candidate.

    Beta 4: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=products&end_pos=135&lang=en

Two versions of the patch will be available:

    - Beta 3 to Beta 4 Patch. If you have a Beta 3 already installed, you can apply this patch to it.

    - Beta 4 full install. This is a full version of the beta and should NOT be installed over a previous version. (RECOMMENDED)

As in previous betas, download the setup and ALL bin files to a folder. Then run the setup file and follow instructions.

    Some other notes:

1- Performance improvement for beta 4 was that all units now have Levels Of Detail (LOD). In later betas we'll optimize other areas, particularly effects and EDM models that are having a big, negative impact. However, some things will always hurt frame rate like TGP / Mav video (have to render the game a 2nd or 3rd time!) or viewing high poly objects (like A-10C, F-15, etc.) up close. No way around that.

2- We know that there are cluster bomb issues and they are still being worked on. We've had to redo much of this code to support new features like HOF and this has resulted in a buggy weapon... for now.

3- When you run the game for the first time, you will likely have a long (4-15 min) white screen while the shaders are compiling. The game has not crashed.

4- We hope to have a change log soon.

5- We hope to have a quick beta 5 available before the end of the year.

6- If you have a font problem in the GUI, disable AA in your graphics card properties.

7- Some of our testers have reported installer issues. If you encounter this, we apologize and ask that you wait for beta 5.

8- To confirm beta version, please check file dates in your A-10C dir. The GUI indication is not correct.

If you encounter a problem, please for the love of god first consult the FAQ at: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=58551

    Happy Holidays,

    Update on Nevada...
To clarify: the Nevada map will NOT be in the release version of A-10C but we do plan to release it later as a pay-for add-on map. This map will be free to those did the A-10C pre-purchase though. For those that wait for the final, release version, the Nevada map will be a separate purchase.
