Hey, i had the injection for a yr in total, moved onto Implanon now, i found it great(havnt had a period in 18 months:D) but as thaedyal says some people have fairly nasty side effects, only ones i had was i felt a bit naesous for the first few days after gettin each one( ah the joys of a contacepive making you panic)

it was the only one i could use due to a family history of breast cancer and bein on the heavy side, tried the mini pill first but it turned me into a psycho and made my cycle go all over the place.

anyway long post short, best bet is to go and have a chat either with your gp or the nurse in the practise, i found the nurse where i go was a bit more up to date with contraception options than my gp.

thanks hun ive never thought about the implant before.
ive talked to the nurses in the family plannig and my own gp and they said it personal choice what i go for.
im so bad at making decisions lol
i like to be told you have to go on this pill etc lol
can i ask you one thing about the implant......is it sore to get put in? and when you have to get it removed are you left with a scar?
    thanks for the advice x

    Hi Fizgig Bandicoot,

Twenty10 is correct about the free smear. However if you are worried you should speak to your GP. In certain circumstances they may recommend that you have a smear done but you will have to pay for it.

nah wasnt that sore worst part was when he was injecting the local anesthic(sp) ive a tiny scar but you would really have to be looking for it to see it, just had some heavy bruiseing for a few days around where it was put in, was told you only end up with a tiny scar when they take it out.
    hope that helps

    Hi Ladies,

I visited a GP today who refused to renew my prescription for Yasminelle, the combined pill that I have been on for 2 years because of the fact that I had a couple of migraine type headaches a few years ago while I was on a different pill. He scared the living daylights out of me, told me that I could end up having a stroke and be paralysed and instead prescribed a progesterone pill even though I've had real problems with side effects from these in the past.

I checked the Yasminelle website and there is nothing on there to indicate that somebody who has had migraines shouldn't take it. I am not looking for medical advice on this. I just would like to know if anybody has had similar advice from their gp. From previous experience, by going on to this other pill, I already know I am setting myself up for a nightmare and I don't want to do it needlessly. Yasminelle is the only pill I have ever been on that has never caused me a single problem and I'm very reluctant to come off it.

Go back and argue wit the dr or go see a different dr and get a second opinion.

A quick Google search showed up at least one healthcare website that states a history of migraine headaches IS a contraindication...therefore, don't trust the web for information on persciption drugs! ;)

If you are unhappy with this GP's advice, then I'd suggest getting a second opinion?

Does anyone know if drinking parsley tea will actually bring your period on faster? Mines due friday and i want it to come ON friday. Does parsley really work??

I don't know about Parsley tea but I know a very hot bath with lots of lavender oil has worked for me before

Thanks I'll give that a go! :) Did you take the bath on your due date or just before it?

Hey girls anyone have any info on the depot?
been thinking bout getting it for ages now.
I went into the FP clinic with the intention of gettin it and the doctor really strongly advised me not to. He said it was up to me but the research in recent years has proven it dramatically increases your chance of osteoperosis. He advised me to get the implant. Subsequently I got it (2years ago) and happy days! Couldnt recommend it higher!! Either wud BF! :D

I suffer from migraines but they're not too bad, in that I don't get migraine with aura (visual hallucinations); I get photophobia and nausea but that's all. Painkillers and sleeping in a dark room until it all goes away is the only thing that helps!

I was told by my GP that being on the pill is a bad idea for someone who gets worse migraines than myself. I've been on Yasmin for about 2 years now and as long as my migraines don't get worse and my BP stays low I should be fine. Smoking is a big no-no as well. There's also no family history of vascular problems like stroke or clots so my GP is happy to keep prescribing as long as I get BP checks every year. She'd be checking my BP every 6 months if it was high or my family history worried her.

Basically, some GPs seem to be stricter about pill prescriptions than others. If you history or BP is worrying your GP then maybe that's why s/he is being cautious. I could also understand him/her not wanting to prescribe any more if you'd never suffered migraine before taking the pill, but I'm not sure from your post that that's the case?

Maybe have another chat with your GP and find out for definite why your prescription isn't being renewed.

Hope that long-winded post was of some help!

Thanks so much Jokettle - that is actually really helpful. The migraines that I experienced only actually started when I began taking Yasmin (only lasting for the first 2 weeks that I was on it). I switched to Yasminelle soon afterwards because of mood swings I was experiencing on Yasmin.

I had a lot of visual disturbance when I had these migraines and I think that that's what worried the gp who refused my prescription yesterday. That said, I am a healthy weight, have normal blood pressure and exercise regularly so I wouldn't have thought I'd be high risk for a stroke. I went to a different gp this morning to get my normal yasminelle prescription but also made an appointment to see a specialist just to make doubly sure that it's safe to be on it. Thanks for everybody's advice on this.

It's great to hear your GP's taking it seriously :) Depending on your age you may not be at risk for stroke, but there's no harm in being safe! Vascular problems aren't to be messed around with :) Hope it all works out for you!

    Hey,

I've been using the Implanon Implant as a form of contraception for the last two years and I have been getting all the side effects, Spotting most of the time, Periods that can last weeks, Weight gain and moodiness combine this with low sex drive.

Its a great contraceptive in theory, 100% effective as i never have sex :P (Not in the mood or too messy)

Anyways Ive decided i want to change though recently have discovered i have a blood clotting disorder (factor V Leiden) so i cant have anything with estrogen which narrows it down alot.

I went to my doctors and shes not comfortable with giving me anything with hormones because of all the weight i put on and the side effects are kinda the same as the Implant. So my choice have been narrowed to the diaphragm or the IUD because of the lack of hormones.

I dont think i want the diaphragm, as i want something a little more permanent, and i dont want to be worrying about human error and etc.

So a long story short, any advice? any stories to tell? (including horror ones) i didnt do enough research about the implant and now im here so i want my facts before i jump in.

    Hello!

    So anyway, boobs.

My breasts have gotten a fair bit larger in the last 6 or 8 months, probably due to weight gain.
They have been really sore for the last month or so, very tender all the time. I ruled out pregnancy, and I didn't think that it could be anything medical because it's both breasts that really hurt so I figured that my bra was too small and just squeezing the poor things.
So off I went to get measured, and the bra-measuring person told me I was the same size that I was 6 months ago!
I explained that they are visibly larger than they were a while and and that they are actually hurting from how tight my bra is and she insisted that they were a 36B, same as last year.

So, wtf? Should I just measure them myself, or just buy a larger bra and feck the measurements? My boobs really hurt sometimes! Maybe it is all in my head....

If you have ongoing pain and discomfort go to your dr and get examined.

I'm now on my third implant. Each time I have to get it removed and re-inserted I get weak at the knees. Then when I go to have it done I feel like a twit because it was relatively pain free. I got it due to really heavy periods and now I rarely have any periods at all, which is great!

    Hiya,

I'm not giving medical advice, you should definitely go to your doctor and just get it checked out, I'm just gonna tell you what happened me so you know that going to the doctor about it doesn't mean it's serious enough to worry about in any way.

I had one sore boob, very painful, heavy, shooting pain, but it looked fine and was normal size. As soon as the doctor examined it he knew what it was, just an infection in my boob, said it felt completely different to the other one because of it (I don't wanna say the name of what it was in case you google it and self-diagnose!) but he told me how to treat and off I went, I wish I'd gone to the doctor months earlier with it because it hurt so bad!

But yeah, just go to the your doctor, could be any number of things.

Ok, one day I'll have the balls to go through with it!

I got measured in debenhams and they gave me a few different size bra's to tr on and once I'd them on they came in and checked the fit.

I was dreading it aswel but it was very professional and I must say I'm very happy with the measurement, it's still as comforrtable as ever

    Hi Ladies,

I've started on Yasminelle and want to delay my period by a few days. So do I just continue on to a new pack after the 21 days, without the 7 day break? Then do I need to finish the next pack completely or can I stop after say maybe 4 days? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I've never been on the pill before and I'm a bit clueless

I've decided to do back on the pill since Im single and heading back to uni ;) I'm also hoping it might clear up my hormonal spots. Does anyone have any good experiences and reccomendations of contraception that helped with spots?

    Thanks

i missed my pill yesterday. The first time in 5 yrs of taking it. I placed it on the table and when I couldn't find it after breakfast I thought I must've taken it. Found it today so I obviously didn't. I had sex lastnight. Is missing one pill and on the day you have sex very dangerous? Should I think about the morning after pill?

Doctors often prescribe Dianette for spots, but it's an extremely high dose pill and many doctors believe you shouldn't be on it for longer than it takes for the spots to clear up. If it's acne, they're likely to prescribe Dianette. If it's just a couple of spots around the time of your period, most pills sort that out.

Yeah I was on Diannette before and it didn't help my spots at all,so was thinking of going for something else this time.

Hey ladies, I've been on about four different types of pill in the last ten years and I'm fed up with it!
Came to a head recently when I met up with a friend who is eight months preggo and realised I was having the same symptoms as her, fatigue, depression, breast enlargement, boobs sore, huge weight gain on stomach, nausea sex drive non exisistant etc etc
Now I'm definitely not pregnant and I'm realising now it's the pill that's doing this, I was thinking of just using condoms and coming off the pill altogether.
I'm newly married but we don't want kids at the moment and my husband has no issues with condoms.
So, is there any ladies out there that use condoms and nothing else? How is it fairing out?

    We do.

I found that when I came off the pill to conceive last year that I felt amazing so I pretty much decided then there would be no more hormonal contraception for me.

This left two options, barrier or copper coil. I still haven't made a decision about the coil so we're using condoms and are having no problems.

HOWEVER: it wouldn't be the end of the world if an accident were to happen for us.

Thanks for the insight! The more I think about it- plus I'm sitting here absolutely shattered after ten mins of running errands- that coming off the pill would be good for me!
Discussed it with the husband and he's happy enough with the plan and we always used condoms with the pill so no major change for him.
Wouldn't be ideal if I got pregnant but we'd manage. Well i think I'll give it a go and see how it works out for a few months.

Nope, you don't have to wait but it will mean that you will need to use additional contraception as the antibiotics will negate the pill.

There will be info in the little booklet you got with your pill detailing this.

i'm on yasmin and just started a new pack after my seven day break, but a few hours later i vomited.

it's now about time to take my second pill, but i'm still feeling ill and worried i'll throw it up too, but i'll take it anyway and hope for the best!

it has me wondering though -if i miss my first pill and take all the others regularly, I am protected against pregnancy for the month or not? i do use condoms but im a bit paranoid and wouldn't like to be relying on them alone.
    Thanks for any advice!

I'm on Cilest contraceptive pill and my 7day break finishes today. On the second last day i took it, i experienced vomiting. This was two hours after i took it. Will it be safe to start the pill again as normal? I read that i shouldn't have taken the 7 day break but it was too late at that stage.

I can't get to my GP as he's in a different county - and I'm not sure if a pharmacist could help or if i'd have the confidence to go to one..

Go back on the pill as usual and use condoms for the next week!

You really should look at getting a dr closer to where you are for most of the week.

Hey I'm just wondering does anyone know of an alternative contraception pill to Dianette that would have the same affect on acne?
I was on Dianette for 2 years and it worked great but now my skin isnt as great as it was and I know I shouldnt go on dianette again because it does have dangerous side effect for prolonged use, as well as making me very emotional :p

Most girls are put on Yasmin after they've been on Dianette. Doesn't work for everyone though remember, like all pills.

I don't know if there are any medical ramifications from not taking the break, but I've done it a few times for festivals/important events and I've had no side effects, apart from occassionally having a heavier-than-normal period during the next break! I'm on yasmin fyi :)

Can anyone tell me if this is normal, off the pill now just over a week, had my period as normal (although a bit heavier than usual) and today is the day my body is expecting me to take the pill again but I'm absolutely weak with tiredness! Last three days I'm sleeping till 1pm and again at five pm and then barely making it to bed at twelve! Right now I'm yawning!
Is this normal or should I be worried?
