Cats tend to get a raw deal (but not on this thread for some reason ). A lot of people don't get that if you don't give a cat attention when they're young, that there tends to not be a lot of personality there when they grow up, much like, um..... people.

The phrase you often hear from cat haters; "I don't like em, they're sneaky". This is one of those catchphrases that people like the sound of and like to repeat, which doesn't actually mean anything. How can an animal be sneaky?

Cats are great pets; clean, not smelly like dogs, easier to look after. So in summary: I like cats. :)

All the cat lovers I know are creepy. I'm more of a dog fan.

I'm a dog person. I enjoy walking with my dogs, which isn't really something you can do with a cat*.

Dogs just like you more than cats do. One of mine does a little dance on the spot when I get home from work because she knows that it's time for rubs. I know people say that they dont' really love you, they're just programmed to, but 1) I don't care and 2) isn't that just the same as your parents and their 'unconditional love'? It's all just hormones.

I don't dislike cats in general, although there are some specific cats that I wouldn't cry about if they got turned into violins.

*Yes, I know you can get cat harnesses, and I can see that they would be useful for taking a house cat for a walk, but a 3 hour hike? I don't think so.

Cats definitely! They're affectionate but you need to give them some attention and build a bond with them. They're clean, independent and don't need you around all the time which is a good thing. I like dogs but I do find them a bit much when they jump up and slobber all over you, and they're smelly!

I like both but I have a cat and he's great, cats are just easier to take care of really can't stand when people say they hate cats because they're evil or sneaky.

Yeah I really don't understand that, why would anyone think a cat is evil?
I'd say most of the cat haters have probably never even had one.

I have to agree with a lot of this...both my cats over the years have been hand reared from just short of being weaned, both developed personalities and characters that you simply don't get with cats from a shelter or brought in strays. My last cat in particular adopted me as his care giver from the start and showed genuine affection more than most cats will. He died young though :(

As for people who call them sneaky? It's understandable...if a cat doesn't know you or your scent it's going to treat you with suspicion, as a possible threat and go out of it's way to avoid you...a survival mechanism...it's alright for dogs, they can bark their head off or take a snap at you if they don't trust you...a cat doesn't have that luxury and will avoid confrontation. Some people don't trust that behaviour and think a cat is up to something.

The one thing that really pisses me off are people that like dogs but that are cruel to cats or treat them like vermin...saw it a lot on my etstate growing up...

i killed a dog recently. new neighbours had some nerve bringin this ting into a barkless area without requesting permission. ting was doin this squeaky squealin bark relentlessly like a little bitch, day/night for 3 month - had never nor could've harmed a non-human creature. up til i spiked that bad boy - seems i had to put manners on im meself. apologies, dog people - but always consider the neighbours first.

I'm a definite dog person. I have had a cat but dogs are much more lovable. I could be with the cat for ages and she just walked away where as dogs do be jumping all over you and are more caring.

Didn't participate in poll because I would be 50/50 with bot cat and dog. During my life we had both amazing cats and dogs in the family,

I love both! Can't wait to get myself a house someday and i will have both. Cats are fantastic, they are bossy and take no ****, if you have both it's pretty much a guarantee that the cat is the boss.

    +1.

    Have to agree.

I've a Pitbull, Staffordshire Bull Terrier & a cat - the cat is the big boss, they're putty in her paws.

Oh yea, I don't have a 'both' option.

Oh yea, I'm recruiting new members for the Judo club - starting September, but I'll give you free 'pre-season' personal training :p

I don't actually understand why people think dogs are loyal.

The vast majority go straight to the person with food.

    It's not that I don't like them.

I just don't see the loyalty.

Cat's are the sliest form of creature, evolution ever developed.

Have you not heard the story of the old man dying and his cat eating him to survive? Or what about the dog who sat by his master for 14 months after his owner had took a heart attack while walking through the woods? The only time he left was to find food. He sat there guarding his master dead corpse until he was found.

Dogs truely are mans best friend. Cats just use you for food and then f*ck off.

particularly if said person is asleep and big toe is protruding..

"the dog chewed it off cos he sensed it had diabetes. Douthett says he’s not taking any chances, and will be wearing shoes to bed from now on."

i once awoke in our Carlow digs to find our adopted kitty lying on its side, pawing at my mouth. now THATS creepy, sooner my toe chewed off by the family pet. and then hail it.

What are the pitbulls like as pets? how big do they eventually get??

Looking for a dog that won't get too big, as the labrador at "home" got way too big to handle for the sis, and ended up wrecking the garden when it rained!
