Am i the only crazy one? I am not a teenager, but i cant relax at all. Every noise makes my heart beat faster.. Shower is a nightmare when its dark outside. I can see bathroom door handle moving and stuff like that!
Sleeping is out of question -not possible.I am afraid all the time that someone is in the house. Yesterday i took kalms pills and was trying hard to fall a sleep -didnt work. :( Should i go to shrink?

Don't worry about it. Those noises are just me hiding in your wardrobe

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you! :D

I am sensing anxiety in you caused by a disturbance in your childhood. That will be €300 please.

    Honestly, I would seek help.

It's one thing to experience this as a child, I can testify to this as a person who was left home alone a lot as a young child!

But as an adult who literally can't sleep because of it? That's not right!

I knew i will see posts like above (have fun -i dont mind), but i hope i will get some serious responds too- no matter how funny this might be for some people, this is a serious problem for me. I dont get enough sleep and this makes me feel tired and nervous all the time. :/

if am at my mums and she's out for the night i sometimes find it hard to sleep, i'm thinking if she gets home okay, guess the roles are starting to be reversed

if am in my own place, no trouble at all sleeping if no one else in the house

I love it, having the house to myself. I can only sleep with all the lights off, complete darkness.

Don't worry - there's very few stalkers or murderers in the Doughiska area. Plus you have your dog to warn you of any intruders getting into your apartment via the balcony.

Just sit back, relax, have a glass of Buckfast & chill out with the Donnie Darko soundtrack on the stereo.

If your really worried about being in the house alone keep on a few lights and have the telly or radio on in the background

If the house is silent you will hear allsorts and think the worst

Nothing is going to happen to you try and relax

When you get into bed, just keep imaging that there is probably somebody under your bed.

op I think you should go outside to the garden and sleep in a tent, no worries about moving door handles then

Oh I wouldn't worry too much OP, it's probably just ol' Larry Murphy up to his tricks again.

This is good advice. Put on a low light and Lyric FM down low and you'll soon drift off.

Toss of or flick the bean which ever applies to you it will make you tierd and you will fall asleep

Just leave your light on and have the house alarm on or ask a friend to join you. I'd have no problems sleeping and relaxing when home alone. Have the telly on the noise would drift you to sleep.

I used travel a lot with my job and always had trouble falling asleep at the hotels. At first I used to have to fall asleep with the lights and the TV on. Eventually I got to where I would read to get sleepy or put earphones on and listen to music and that seemed to help. If doing things like that doesn't help and you're not getting the sleep you need, you should talk to you regular doctor about a sleep med to help you get to sleep. Not getting enough sleep will eventually effect your physical, mental & emotional health.

I live on my own..and love it! Everyone thinks im nuts not renting out a room when i could really do with the dosh, but no way. No help OP sorry, but you really will have to get used to it somehow (leave lights,tv or radio on all the time) if thats a comfort. Just keep thinking you are literally wasting energy worrying about what "might" happen...

I live alone, and I never get scared. It's funny, 'cause when I lived with a friend and she wasn't there, I was often convinced that something awful was gonna happen and would jump at every teeny sound in the apartment. Not really sure what you should do, maybe speak your doctor about your anxiety? Otherwise, take a bath, put some lavender on your pillow, and try to relax. You'll be grand!

I know, i can feel it already. :( Dont like going to sleep with tv on, because i think its not healthy for your mind. Reading it better, but if i am reading its quiet.
Wasnt going necessarily to discuss only my problem here. ;) Just thought would be good to read about other peoples experience.

I live alone, and never really have any bother with it. Live in a rural area so know it's safe enough.

Mind you, there was a bit of hassle the other week with strange fella's(as in no one knew them, not that they had two heads or something) running round the area at half 4 in the morning ,shoutin and screaming and breaking things and i slept through the whole thing. :o

OP, leave a light on when you're alone, and music playing on a low level.

Would you like some company, I can offer a strong young man willing to spoon and comfort you into a safe beautiful dream?

    Note:

midnight erections while spooning may worry you though, but seeing that you'll know whats going on, it may ease your imagination, ;)
