    His podcasts/audiobooks are quality.

    Karl Pilkington is a legend.

His smugness doesn't help his cause.

Everything about that man is unfunny; I just never got what others got regarding him. Similar to Mr. Bean, Tommy Tiernan, Billy Connolly and some others....

I agree with you about all except Billy Connolly.

Firstly, hes more a story teller than a comedian and secondly, hes brilliant.

Say another negative word about the man and i send Achmed the terrorist after you

I fairness he is the only person ever to have pissed off elmo

loved his standup about the bible too. Could not enjoy the office made me cringe. just didn't give extras a chance.

That Elmo meeting is class-only saw it last night for the first time:D

I think he's gas, I can see why people might not like him but why do so many people go on as though he's affecting their personal life having not found something he's said funny:confused::confused::confused:

The Office and Extras are brilliant. Podcasts are great. Most of his films are rubbish. Cemetery Junction is good though.

I found The Office ok but Extras is really good. There's some really good moments in it. Hate his laugh though.

Exactly....I think it some of the funniest Comedy anywhere. Hilarious. I have to say it is mostly Karl Pilkington, but how the others play off him is great.

I adored the office, as his character is exactly like my
Boss in work! Liked extras but found it nice but not fantastic.

Found his stand up funny but its something that I could only
watch once and find funny. But after a while you kinda know
what to expect and further viewing becomes less and less funny.

Films/Podcasts etc I've never found funny.

I never really "got" the Office (you probably need to have worked in one in order to) despite all the hype and never had much time for Gervais as a result...although that said, some of his stand up has gotten a chuckle from me at times. Never really seen Extras either, because again, all over hyped and touted as "must see" TV shows I tend to avoid like the plague.
Like any comedian, not everyone will like him or get him, or think that he's even worthy of being called a comedian...that's the beauty of humour.
I can think of plenty who are less funny than him and that I like less...it's a shortlist though...

Wasn't a fan really - though I wouldn't go as far to say I disliked him - until Extras. An absolutely brilliant show that I find it hard to imagine failing to draw a few laughs out of anyone. The scene in the graveyard about his parents is the best. It reminds me of Curb your Enthusiasm, in that a lot of the humor is so intensely awkward.

He seems to think he's funny by just laughing out loud at STUPID stuff (not funny stuff )....I did enjoy the Office but nothing after that was even remotely funny, even his interviews are bad

    Totally agree..

His character's smugness is part of the act which makes it funny.

Next you'll say you don't like him because he's not very clever, he tries too hard to be popular in the office or tries too hard to make it as actor in extras.

I was actually thinking about this today! The Office was brilliant I thought, haven't really seen much else of his stuff though.

I saw an ad today on Sky though, for a new program about Karl Pilkington touring the world or something like that, and Gervais kept laughing out loud at stuff that was completely unfunny, and looked like a twat tbh...

    Incredibly funny.

Worth noting that the projects that weren't very funny - the Simpsons episode, Ghost Town and the Invention of Lying - all had two things in common. Both were aimed at American audiences and neither had Stephen Merchant involved

He also wrote what was arguably the worst ever episode of The Simpsons. Not only is he unfunny but he helped put the nail in the coffin of one of my favourite programmes.

The Simpsons hadn't produced a good episode in years before this. It was dead long before Gervais got involved. His episode was in 2006, at least 5 years before it stopped being remotely funny.

    I think he's absolutely hilarious!

But I do think Stephen Merchant is a much-more talented writer.

And to those of you who didn't get the office or extras can i ask......what other "comic" brilliance has come on to our screens in the past few years?
    Killnaskully??
People don't like him so they say his work is shíte....wrong....seriously name me 5 laugh out loud comedy sit-coms/shows in the last 5 years.

Ricky Gervais is funny...apart from his 90% of his stand-up. The Office and Extras are two very well executed series, although there is a very obvious storyline in Extras that they missed. I'll be bringing it up if I ever meet Rick or Steve ;)

I've only ever been able to sit through one episode of Extras and that was the one with David Bowie. David Bowie was actually ten times funnier than Ricky Gervais could ever hope to be. I know Ricky Gervais wrote the script, but it was David Bowie that made it (very slightly) funny.

He also wrote what was arguably the worst ever episode of The Simpsons. Not only is he unfunny but he helped put the nail in the coffin of one of my favourite programmes.

The Simpsons has been "so not funny" since 1998.

The Office was brilliant but apart from that awful and that includes his standup routine.

Extras and the Office are really good. I just find him to be quite unctious.

    Agree?
    Disagree?

I disagree, his last standup gig - Fame on c4 was very funny indeed.

Ricky Gervais made it even less funny.

The office was 2001, so I'm going back 10 years!

    Peep Show
    Scrubs
    The Inbetweeners
    The Mighty Boosh
    Arrested Development
    Curb Your Enthusiasm
    Malcolm in the Middle
    30 Rock
    Black Books
    Entourage

I like The Office and Extras, but spend more time cringing than laughing.
