I'd like to clout the advertising ponce who came up with this 'Arthur's Day' rubbish. I bet he thought it was a great achievement, much like that anonymous (but legendary) gobdaw who came up with that horrid Radion ad on Irish television many years ago (you remember, the one where the entire family appeared).

I know it's very fashionable to not like marketing and advertising and it's not the "cool thing" right now, and I respect your stance, you don't want to be seen to "be fooled" by the commercialism of the whole thing, that's very in vogue right now and I see where you are coming from. But the campaign is a massive success. While you may want to clout whoever came up with the concept (doubt you would do it really) is getting a lot of thanks and a lot more campaigns I'd say.

I find it strange that the nation would want to celebrate a man who was so vocally anti-Catholic and pro-British rule. Celebrate what Guinness/Diageo have done for tourism/export etc in this country by all means, but making a national holiday out of the man is a bit ridiculous in my opinion.

But he brings people together today, that's what's important. As Arthur would say: "A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man"
