Rajan Reilly is the guy - I thought at schools he was as good as Dom Ryan - think he played Leinster ahead of him

You can't really judge them at that age. Rajan Reilly is 5ft 9". Dominic Ryan is 6ft 3".

Harlequins have completed the signing of former Newcastle loose forward Peter Browne on a year-long deal, the club announced on Friday.

Browne, who was allowed to leave the Falcons twelve months into a two-year contract, had attracted interest from Gloucester, Scarlets, Leinster and the Dragons.

Leinster were particularly interested in Browne, who qualifies to play for Ireland through his father, however he has now agreed to head to the Stoop.

The 22-year-old, who is 6ft 7in tall, can provide cover in the back-row however he is set to challenge for a place in the Quins second row.

Current Quins locks James Percival and George Robson are both currently sidelined so Browne will be challenging the likes of Ollie Kohn and Louis Stevenson.

Probably the front 5 signing that was being talked about. Young player, 6'7", prop, could probably movce to tighthead given his size, Irish qualified, and can cover backrow...

Damn it, could have been a pretty good signing that got away...can't imagine how Quinns could me more attractive than Leinster right now...maybe he saw the competition and didn't want to take the challenge, maybe he's dedicated on attempting to playing for England...who knows...

    He's a Second Row.

Leinster Academy Panel 2010/11: Noel Reid, Darren Hudson, Ben Marshall, Jack O’Connell, John Cooney, Sam Coghlan Murray, Jordi Murphy (all Year 1), Dominic Ryan, Michael Keating, Ian Madigan, Mark Flanagan, Ciaran Ruddock, Stewart Maguire (all Year 2), Ian McKinley, Tom Sexton, Eamonn Sheridan (all Year 3)

Delighted to see McKinley officially confirmed -had feared the worst from prior rumours

Anyone got leg shots of Fitzey - looked pumped in the arms but not too concerned until see the legs

Wow wouldn't have reconciled those shots as being from the same time as ones on the injury thread. Looks grand - was worried about bulk interferring with pace & agility but seems to be no cause from concern from this perspectice anyway. Course cant tell much from stills so fingers crossed until see live action

Christ I hope the pitch will be in order.

We don't want another situation like Barbarians vs Australia. :(

Cheika has basically fluent French afaik, after the Clermont QF I passed by him having a good chat with a load of Clermont fans at the back of the Anglesea stand.

Cheika's of Lebanese descent so I assumed he'd have good french already.

any idea of the injuries to Fitzgerald, Mcloughlin and Cullen ?

when should we see them back ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,079 ✭✭✭Mr.Applepie

From what I've read Fitzgerald could have been back right at the end of the season but they decided against it was it would have taken him a few games to get up to speed and the season would be over.

McLoughlin will most likely be seen around Christmas, not sure about Cullen

Luke is back in full training, should be playing against Wasps next week hopefully.
    McLoughlin's out until Christmas apparently.
Leo's been sitting out training, but not sure how serious it is.

does anyone else wish that we'd signed a 6/8 for cover reasons? Mcloughlin is injured and so is Keogh to apparantly though i have no idea how bad. That leaves us with only one out and out is who is Rhys Ruddock and only Heaslip at eight. one moe injury and we could be in trouble. Would like to see Eoin Sheriff get at least one game in the pre-seasons to bed him in there.

Presumably the management feel Ruddock and Ryan are up to it. Hines could be moved to 6 if needs be with Hogan to the bench. Is O'Brien back for the beginning of the season?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,193 ✭✭✭[Jackass]

Yup, but McLoughlin will be out until roughly xmas. But I've full confidence in a back-up backrow of 6. Ruddock 7. Ryan 8. Keogh.

Keogh really was excellent when called upon last season, as an 8, he did a very valuable and underrated job imo. Ruddock & Ryan are there for a reason, and both are fully able to cope at this level if called upon imo. Plus the option of Hines at 6, and as a lineout operator, gives guys like Toner & O'Donoghue, and even Hogan oppertunities in the second row if required. I think we're well covered all over the squad with the exception of 10.

If Johno Sexton can play whenever needed and stays injury free (almost like RO'G can) then we should be fine.

After a very disapointing end to the Chieka era compared to what was possibly expected and certainly what we were capable of, I expect this new chapter to open with a very hungry and determined sqaud.

As a Leinster fan, I am absolutely chomping at the bit for this season to begin....I can only imagine how the squad feel...

I've a feeling our squad skill levels and creativity and clinicallness has the potential to hit an all time high with the new coaching structure, fresh approach and ideas, if we can maintain our tactical savy and street smarts we've developed over the last number of years, which i think we will, we could be looking at a Leinster machine that will take some stopping. I'm extremely optomistic.

are we talking about Dom Ryan ?

The other Ryan seams to have jumped ahead of him in the queue

btw I met Dom Ryan and a few others Leinster lads down by the 40 foot , and he told me he can play either side , but specialising in open for now.

If you're on sky, post No.4 explains how you can tune in BBC Alba and S4C. Although I think S4C is channel 134 (not 100% but I'm close)

Saw them training the other day - looking sharp.
Heinke van der Merwe looks seriously strong - wonder how he'll scrummage...
