Yeah, and even at that I think children should be brought up to eat what they are given. We had to eat whatever was given to us when we were kids. I also find it rude if you are out for dinner at someones house and refuse to eat what is given to you. Unless you are a vegetarian/don't eat certain food for religious reasons etc..

I work in a restaurant and always find it odd when people order "plain pasta". And not just kids...adults too! Weird.

I don't see why food should be exempt from people's preferences tbh. People have different taste in TV, books, hobbies etc., it's not a case of "suck it up", ya try to minimise that which you don't enjoy. It's exactly the same with me for food to be honest, i eat what i like and don't eat what i don't like.

Can you honestly say that you will eat absolutely anything and everything that's put in front of ya?

I must say, the fact that someone just doesn't like to eat something is a far better excuse than religion, IMO.

Yep was a very fussy eater growing up, very much a product of my generation and fish fingers, spagetti hoops, processed peas, potato waffles or chips were a standard dinner in my house. I would almost have panic attacks going to friends' houses worrying about what their parents would make me eat for dinner :o It's a terrible panicky feeling to really have it in your head that you don't like something and have someone coerce you into eating it. I'd hate to pass that sort of fussy eating on to my own kids.

In my late teens I sort of 'grew out' of it and now I'll eat or at least try almost anything even the ususal 'yukky' food; fish, shellfish, kidney beans, raisins, spinach, shrooms. Although there are still a few things that I am fussy about such as nuts (especially peanuts,) raw tomatoes, cucumber. Not a fan of brocolli although I'll eat it, boiled cabbage, kale etc

I would consider myself an average enough eater, I eat enough of a varied diet to stay healthy and for it not to be an issue on a social level, that is I don't have problems eating in other people's houses, restaurants etc. I'm always trying to get better at eating though.

I have a pretty varied diet. There are things that I don't like but I like most food and I'll try anything just to see what it's like. I can't drink milk on its own though. I never drank milk since I was a baby. Every now and then I try it to see if it's just in my head but it's not even like a drink to me, it doesn't feel like something people should drink!

I eat everything and will try anything new becuase im not a little whiney vagina.

Life´s about experiencing new things and enjoying the variety that is available.

Haven't found anything yet that I don't eat/haven't tried. The only thing I try to avoid is sweet and sour. Separately fine, mixed together meh :o I'll try everything. Not picky in the slightest nyom nyom.

Some foods it all depends on how it's cooked, I prefer stir fried cabbage to boiled, raw spinach to cooked stuff like that, that's preferences, but haven't ever turned anything away without tasting it. People who point blank refuse certain foods annoy the hell out of me.

If I'm hungry I'd eat the crotch out of a dead leper's jocks.....

my mother thinks i'm picky because i refuse to eat a massive helping of potatoes everyday with dinner, while we need carbohydrates we don't need potatoes covered in milk, butter and salt and mashed
You're right; we don't need them covered in milk butter and salt: you want a load of cream cheese in there too.

Bit drastic but there should defo be some sort of public shaming!

Maybe when they order it the waiter/waitress just takes the menu from them, looks at them like they are something they'd scrape off the bottom of their shoe and say, "I'm sorry, we don't serve your kind in here!"

    I'm a picky eater. I know I am.

Trying to try new things at the moment, but I'd rather stick to what I know and know I like.

Since I was a child, I was the same. There were times I'd go hungry rather than eat if the mammy tried to make me eat something i didn't like. Was living on chips, fried chicken, crisps, sweets and coke.

Then a nutritionist came to school, and told us all that these kind of food would kill us. So I stopped eating all together. That was a whole bunch of fun for my parents. The only thing I would eat was coco pops and custard (not at the same time!). For a month.

I can't eat green vegetables, any of them, they taste like green. I know it sounds stupid, but thats what it tastes like to me. It tastes like the colour green would taste.

If I make fajitas, I'd use onions, red peppers, green peppers, meat etc. I'd find at the end of the meal, I'd have a pile of green peppers on the side of my plate, and I wouldn't even be conscious of it now. (Its only recently enough that I've started eating peppers. Even onions, I hated them, but took a craving one day in Dublin for onion rings, and got some from Borza's in Donnybrook one day, and haven't looked back since.)

Potatoes HAVE to feature in my meals in some form or another, mashed, boiled, chips, wedges, baked, whatever. Sweet potatoes I'm not keen on, but have tried.

Meat, god I love it. I'd try any meat. Beef, chicken, venison, veal, pork, lamb, turkey, mutton, goat, horse, crocodile, whatever.
Cannot eat fish. Or seafood in general. The texture is vile, and all taste like saltwater to me. I know they should taste different depending on what it is, but salt water is all I can taste. Even if they're fresh water.

junk food I love. Crisps, chocolate, sweets, popcorn, cakes. Yum.

Fruit, I eat apples, bananas, oranges. Thats about the height of it, and not very regularly.

Rice and pasta I can't do. The texture is vile. As we'llallhavetea said, wet cement for pasta. And rice is the same.

And the odd thing is, I love cooking. I just can't eat a lot of what I cook.

Lets hope so, I'll let you begin the campaign cos I'm a lazy cant and won't be arsed with it after a couple of days!

For some reason I don't like salmon, will eat any other fish but can't get into salmon!

If I'm hungry, I'll get something I like. 90% of the foods that I don't like, I'll vomit should I try to eat them.

I'll actually eat most of the foods that others won't; onions, mushrooms, cucumber, most vegetables and fruit, fish... I was fussy as I child but I always ate those kind of foods (I loved raw carrots!).

But...don't come near me with any form of hot drink; tea, coffee, hot chocolate....just can't do it!

I will eat pretty much anything at all. Apart from Oysters. Snot in salt water.

    How is this selfish?

If I gave you a bowl of salt water, with bit of cat poop in it, would you eat it because you were given it?

Away with you, and your discrimination.

I disagree that being a picky eater is immature, In fact I think it's a little immature to comment on other peoples preferances in food. They can eat what they want if their adults.

I don't like much Fruit or Veg, I'll eat some veg some i won't touch. Fruit I'll eat in smoothies can't stomach it on it's own don't like the crunch. I'll pretty much eat any meat. So yeah I'm a bit fusy with food, but I do all my own cooking and can eat whatever I like...so who cares.
