Picky eaters

The people in the article above seem to think picky eating is a disease. I'm a picky eater myself, but I wouldn't like to associate myself with the people in that article, I agree that a nasty texture is really off putting, but they seem to be completely melodramatic about it. Plus they just seem intent on eating nice tasting junk food.

I don't eat much in the way of vegetables, but I think at least I'm man enough to say its because they taste ****e to me as opposed it being some affliction of mine.

    I'm a picky eater.

I'm always picking my ears or picking my nose when I'm having a munch.

I can't stand fish 'cause it tastes like crap (for the most part), texture isn't an issue. Apart from that I'll eat nearly anything.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I have a phobia of butter. It prob is an illness. Even the thought of eating it mags me gag. Mayonaise too and cheese.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,175 ✭✭✭Red_Marauder

One of my friends won't anything with cream, milk, cheese, chicken (or any birds), sweetcorn, spinach, bread, (won't eat sandwiches or pizza), doesn't drink water (milk or juice) and is generally an absolute pain to cook for. Ugh.

People like that generally piss me off, nobody can be that picky can they?

Used to have a severe aversion to eggs. Sill think boiled eggs are fcukin foul, pun intended. Broccoli and cauliflower are also disgusting.

I genuinely feel sorry for very picky eaters.

Food envolves so many of our senses (Touch, taste, smell etc). Not being able to enjoy food the way its meant to be enjoyed is sad IMO (Not sad in a pathetic way)

That's a bit bizarre. Is that by choice or moral / medical reasons?

I used to be an awful picky eater, to the point my work mates commented I'd the diet of a five year old. Jam sandwiches, spaghetti hoops, beans on toast, etc. I'd have rather gone hungry than eat a salad. For the most part I'm over it now, I'm happy to sample foods from different cultures. Though I still, don't eat chocolate or butter, don't put salt on food, will only eat fish if it's sushi/sashimi and only on the rarest of occasions will I eat an egg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,706 ✭✭✭fonecrusher1

I used to be a very picky eater. Wouldn't eat veg. Wouldn't eat anything but processed meats ie; burgers, chicken nuggets, sausages, fishfingers etc. Only form of spuds i'd eat was chips. Super noodles were a big part of my diet.

Then you grow up, travel a wee bit, experience painful hunger & dream of mammys stew with the big chunks of carrot & onion.

Nowadays i'd eat anything.:) Luvs me veg (especially when its roasted). Im mad into cabbage n bacon at the moment? Grilled asparagus, fcukin delish.

Being a picky eater is something I'd associate with a child, seems immature somehow.

I only eat Fruit and Vegetables and Animals that I have killed with my own hands.

I eat everything Raw, including the meat.

    Cooking is for simpletons.

Eat processed grains and you process your brains.

I dont particulary like potatoes, will eat the salad ones all right, but would never go out of my way to cook a potatoe. Floury ones especially are rank/

I don't hate spuds but I don't understand love for them either - they're pretty bland IMO.

Ah mushrooms, my achilles heal as such. I don't like the littles fcukers i must admit. Its a combination of things, the rubbery texture, the vomit enducing smell & of course the fact that they taste weird.
To me they taste like something that should not be eaten by humans?!

Mushrooms are awesome. I once thought my friend was Gary Coleman on horseback.

    Good times.

Yeah potatoes are boring. Jacket Potatoes with butter and melted cheese are the business but if you just have the potato minus the heart clogging tastiness then it's pretty boring.

I used to be really picky when I was a kid but I seem to have grown out of it and now eat most of the food that used to put me of. With the exception of mushrooms, which I will eternally hate. I suppose its just an age thing for the most part.

Cheese and butter don't clog your heart. Potatoes are a tasty conveyance for delicious and healthy saturated fat.

I'm a picky eater by choice, don't eat grains, gluten, refined sugar or industrial seed or vegetable oils. It seems to be working in my favour healthwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,814 ✭✭✭TPD

I hate the texture of beans, won't eat them. Same with mushrooms, and the flavour isn't great on them either. Fish doesn't taste nice, but I'll eat the blander cod or haddock if it's in a tasty batter. Eggs make me wretch. Apart from the above, I eat most things.

Yeah, and even at that I think children should be brought up to eat what they are given. We had to eat whatever was given to us when we were kids. I also find it rude if you are out for dinner at someones house and refuse to eat what is given to you. Unless you are a vegetarian/don't eat certain food for religious reasons etc..

I work in a restaurant and always find it odd when people order "plain pasta". And not just kids...adults too! Weird.

Cheese and butter don't clog your heart.

They do when you eat them as heartily as I do :pac: Well not butter that can get ****ed, but cheese is awesome.

There's also the idea of supertasters where a person has more tastebuds than the average so picks up bitter tastes more strongly.

Only found out about this at the weekend.

I friggin hate potatoes, I could never eat them boiled or raw, yet could eat chips no problem. Mushrooms are lovely! I avoid most salads, vegetables and quite alot of fruit and am a very picky eater, when I was young I was like a lat so thin and my parents took me to all types of paediatricians.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 209 ✭✭babyfratelli_x

I am still a very picky eater.... Not through choice, I have tried to eat other stuff, but it makes me physically sick.

Ive always been like this, and my parents took me to doc, he said as long as i was healthy then there was no need to force change, and id grow out of it.... But I didnt

Pretty much live of chicken nuggets, chips, rice, fruit n toast.

Dont eat any other meat, bread, veg, spaghettis, pasta or any of that crap...
But hey Im pretty healthy anyway :D

    Meat ftw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 773 ✭✭✭Wetai

I'm quite picky; don't like onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, cabbage and most other vegetables (partially because my sister told me if I ate them they'd kill me when I was very young and never liked them from then, pretty much because of the texture!) and salads, and many fruits (kiwis to name one); don't really like plain potatoes with nothing on them (e.g. Gravy) or floury chips because theyre quite bland but like them as fries or fried potatoes or just like with gravy or beans or something nice on them! also dont really like chops cuz of the fat on them, blegh.

I'll eat everything mostly. Am pretty much a dusty bin!!

There are a few things I draw the line at though:
    Liver, heart, brains, tongue etc
    Snickers bars and currants! Euw!

Although I'll happily eat the whole animal when it's presented as a sausage! :P YUM

Was a veggie for years, ahhh the wilderness years....what a waste of taste buds!!!

I cant eat fruit or nuts not necessarily because of the taste but because of the texture. I've tried eating foods with fruit and nuts in them but i always have to give up because i reach a point where i can't stand to eat any more of them.

I think that makes you what's called a 'super-taster'. Apparently people with really sensitive tastebuds can detect a horrible flavour in cucumber when others can't.

Sometimes it's not the taste, but the texture. Rice doesn't really have a taste but I'd eat a whole plate of it on it's own because of the texture. Delish.

Yep, that's it. I hate my supertaster tastebuds. I can't eat cucumber, peppers, a fair few other veg, or spicy food. When I tried to tell my mum about the foul taste of cucumber she looked at me like I had just said that I see extra colours or could hear thoughts or something.
