Does anyone think that American style gang culture will ever come to Ireland. Theres already copycat crips, bloods and latin kings in London. I personally dont think so because Irish people in general form tight communities.

    We're not black enough.

As long as there are young stupid ignorant people looking for kicks via violence, there will be gangs. I don't think it will take too long before the juvenile gang colour system takes hold over here too, but then again we have the Tricolour already for that.

not being racist at all but i think soon enough when the black population hits a certain % in ireland, we will see this kind of behaviour..look at england as an example

Everything America does we copy. Gangs, raps, caaachino coffe, democracy, skateboarding, fake tans and designer dogs, cult celebrities....

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

A lad I know and a few of his friends set up a 'gang'.

They used to basically stand outside Tesco and scare people for the craic, and robbed shít. They could have actually been dangerous if they weren't 1st years.:pac:

Ireland's disadvantaged have bought into the ignorant, macho-ism hip hop culture American society has given us...and they take it literally too. The scum think they have something to prove, like a chip on their shoulder where they have to convince the world they're hard enough.

I blame 60 Cent and Biggie Shakur.

I don't think that race is the prime cause for gangland crime tbh. Poverty and ghettoization can affect any race

Don't know if its anything to do with those American gangs or not, but there's a "blue crew" that hang around in Inchicore/St Michaels. Funny stuff :D

The presence of paramilitary organisations in Ireland might also be a reason why we dont have those type of gangs.

I don't think "American-style gangs" are a black thing. Pretty much every ethnic group in American history has formed street gangs, with their own colors, symbols and codes of conduct. And often these gangs were the muscle behind protecting gambling, liquor, prostitution, heroin and other illicit activity. The only difference today is that they have destroyed their own communities through drug dealing, and nobody tries to be careful about innocent bystanders anymore.

Any irish guys with a "crew" or whatever always remind me of Ali G and the Staines Massiv

What do you mean by this (genuinely curious; not being snarky)?

This sounds terrible but we're all very closely related to each other in this country and because of this we have very strong community bonds. Theres people I really dont like from my area but id help them out if they were in trouble.

But you could also argue that strong community bonds actually make gang activity easier - certainly this is something that has helped paramilitary groups historically.

True. But if you do something bad in my community everyone knows you personally and your family. Apart from the paramilitary stuff, Belfast had one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

Apart from the fact that paramilitary activity in and of itself is illegal and often supported by illegal activity, I think it might be more accurate to say that Belfast had one of the lowest reported crime rates in the world.
