Due to a fatal crush yeaterday which led to the death of nineteen people, the organisers have decided to discontinue the event which attracts well over 1 million people each year.

    Taken form The Guardian:

Do you think it is a complete overreaction? I think it is. The planning was seemingly very poor with only one entrance and it was held in a town with a population of just 500,000.

I had really wanted to go to this at some stage in my life.

It's a free event right? I don't think it's an overreaction at all.

Im sure it will be back but under a different name and format.

In my opinion I think the organisers are right to cancel it forever. It would always be remembered for the deaths of those 19 people, not for what it was initially started for.
A terrible, terrible thing to have happened.

In no way an overreaction, there was enough trouble finding somewhere else to host it when berlin couldn't fund it anymore. It was supposed to be cancelled then. This incident seemed to be the last straw. People i know who went to it in duisberg said that the set up was ridiculous and mentioned the tunnel specifically. Tragic, but not unexpected

19 people are dead, definitely not an overreaction.

This sort of thing wouldn't happen at Hate Parade.

I think it's an under reaction, they should jail the organisers for endangering and taking people's lives....hands up who wants to tell a parent their child is dead and that it's just an accident, nobodies fault, might as well of been there own....

Techno Viking was with the **** Parade. His sort wouldn't be too into the Love Parade.

Berlin probably moved on from the Love Parade so this might be the end.

A few ppl die in an accident, (tragic yes, unavoidable yes) but should we now all go back and hide in our cages?

I was at it twice in 2005 and 2007.

This wouldn't have happened if it was on in Berlin

why did they call it the love parade?

Awful thing to happen. Imagine if the likes of that happened at Electric Picnic or Oxegen? And the panic those poor people must have gone through before they died. I don't think they should cancel it forever but they should organise it better in the future.

What a tragedy..19 people dying! Definitely not an over reaction but what a ridiculously stupid place to have a festival of that size.

I was at it in Berlin in 1999 and it was amazing, but it was held in the streets up by the Brandenburg Gate.Everyone was free to move about and come and go as they pleased. Most people were hammered and/or off their face but i didnt see one bit of trouble the entire weekend.

Maybe theres a new organising committee or something as the old school ones wouldnt have allowed something of that size (theres always 1million+ at it) in a bloody tunnel with one exit.

    Shame :o

yes very true. they should have had a limit of the number of people who attended though as the accident could have been avoided. shame really, they need to adhear to saftey measures which needs to be improved if they were to ever hold an event like that again. better they have it on solid ground where oxygen was held on muddy ground.

Was at this in 2008 in Dortmund. Was cancelled in 09 because Bochum felt there would be too many people for the town to cope with. There was alot of meetings before this years and doubt wether it would go ahead.I hope it is not the end for LP, hopefully they will learn from this and organise it better in the future. Id say it will be a few years before theres thought of another one but I do hope there will be.

I think they tried to have one in Leeds back in 2001 or so and it had to be abandoned to abandoned for a nearby field site due to safety concerns. Berlin is one of the few cities where it could work given the layout of the streets.

they took a shortcut and in hindsight just cos everyone else was doing it didn't make it right

with numbers of 1 million or more people at the party it's not a huge number to have died even in a tragic circumstance

not like hillsborough or the fire that blazed thru that club in Dublin

also why should the organisers be jailed or be forced to call it a day, nobody forced these people to attend and it falls on themselves to be safe and stick to designated areas when doing so

If im not mistaken, that was the designated way to get to the event. It wasnt a shortcut.

Second paragraph of the times article if you bothered to read it
