Had some of the Brewdog range. 5 a.m Saint, 77 Lager, Punk IPA and Trashy Blonde, all good but I liked 5 a.m Saint the best, will have to get some more.

Bought the Tokyo* tonight, gonna drink it tomorrow evening, and really looking forward to it.
I'll let ye know how I get on, but would like to say that I have very little experience with stout outside of O Hara's, Guinness Extra Stout, and a Porterhouse stout a good few years ago.

Oooh Tokyo* I need to try it again.
I tried it in the UK in a tiny brewpub in the arse of nowhere.

The barman called for punters to go on it with him. £10 for the bottle so we all chipped in and got a whiskey measure each. It was divine.

This is not a normal stout, it is an imperial stout so Guinness foreign extra is the closest to it in the Irish market and that is not a patch on Tokyo* though take a look at Ola Dubh as it is similar and cheaper I think.

If you can get someone to help you drink Tokyo* I would by the way. It is a drink best shared.

Tomorrow I am heading to the new Trouble Brewing brewery in Kildare for BBQ and beer day :D

Ola Dubh - never heard of that one. Where would I find it, do you know?
And if the Tokyo* is a drink best shared, I think I might hold off on it. The only thing is, my mates don't really like stouts...

Then drink it all yourself. What I mean is that if you know someone in to beer then sharing something like this is a good idea but only if they will appreciate it.

Ola Dubh can be got in any good off license that specialises in craft beer. drinkstore (they deiver nationwide) has it of course (two versions) and somewhere like Redmonds or Deveneys (Dublin) would too.

I'm really struggling to like my bottle of Sam Adam's Triple Bock!

I wonder if it is very different when a bit fresher? - by my reckoning the bottle I have must be at least 13 years old.
I wonder what it's like a bit more fruity and a bit less bovrily?

    But I will brave on!!

I think the bovrillness is part of its charm.

got x2 btls of CURIM gold wheat beer from the Carlow brewing co.
very good beer indeed, really enjoyed them.
lovely golden colour and great taste imo.

i picked up some btls of Estrella Galicia in Kennys off license in Lucan.
a very poor selection of beers i reckon, the above and about 2 german lagers were about the only non mass produced lagers, and no craft ales or stouts.

on saturday i spent a few hrs in the Porterhouse temple bar.
i started off on the porterhouse red ale and it was very good
then tried a TSB and imo YUCK i did not like it
after that i asked for a Brainblasta=sorry out of stock
then asked for a Hersbrucker=sorry out of stock
got some of there Temple Brau lager and found it good, nothing special but
for 4.40euro it was well worth it.
the food i got was very good indeed and would recommend the chicken and ham pie with the ale gravey

4 x 4pack Leffe & 2x 4pack hoegaarden 4.99 each from Lidl ... Nice to get these bargains every so often. Used to like the Hoegaarden over the Feffe but must admit I'm getting a bit bored of the Hoegaarden now and prefer the Feffe now especially for the price.

They were advertised in an additional leaflet under Bank Holiday Specialsto run from 26th July - then for some reason they also had the Leffe and the Hoegarden on sale for their 10th birtday last Thursday and it all sold out that day.

They had a reasonable about of both back on sale in Tyrrelstown at lunctime yesterday

Nice beer but awful, awful packaging, branding and marketing.

Black Diamond, Free Style, Steep Trail, Jagged Edge !!!
Just doesn't evoke thoughts of craft brewed beer:rolleyes:

Drinking Rodenbach Grand Cru in The Abbot's last night.
I love that beer, though not to everybody's taste!! (I like malt vinegar!)

Just back from Dublin. In Bull & Castle I had a few Goods Store IPA (Cask) from Carlow and in Porterhouse I had a bunch of Cask Hop Heads. Yum... before heading to get the bus, while waiting I had a plain in Messrs because they did not have the Bock on.

I also picked up some old engine oil in the supervalu (old Virgin megastore) @ €1.99 each.

I will have some later :D

Tonight I have mostly been drinking Sierra Nevada Torpedo and Anchor Steam beer, €2.50 a bottle from SuperValu Raheny. Perfect accompaniment to Mario Kart on the SNES.

O'Hara's Irish Pale Ale. We just got this one, gorgeous stuff, and I think it's pretty good at 4 for €8.99 :)

Fair play to Drinkstore for gettin some great beers across the pond to our mouths.

Literally just after cracking open my Tokyo* Stout (finally!!!).
I poured it into a Svyturys Baltas glass, so that I could see the colour, head etc., and straight away I could smell the alcohol off it!
It has a decent aroma, nice bit of fizz, and it seems to be fairly sweet on the palate, but by Bacchus, you can definitely feel the burn from the alcohol as you're drinking it!
This would definitely, for me, be a drink to be had in the company of friends, and would surely go well with a discussion about it.
    All in all, thumbs up!
