Tried a bottle of Weltenburger Barock Hell last night. Very nice indeed.

A nice drink on a warm summers evening!:)

    Woo hoo!!
    Got me one of these

    Never tried it before.
    €10.50 for a very small bottle for a .25l bottle:eek:
    Still, alot cheaper than Utopias

    What % is it???

Harvest in Galway had "a" bottle of Utopias a couple years ago ... €125 or something.

So yes the Triple Bock is a bargain :D

Not on bottle but as far as I know, it's 17.5%

I thought the % was a legal requirement for sale in the EU?

I believe so too. Likewise the quantity in metric units. An astounding number of beers on sale here don't have them. Ones that have come through the UK often have a sticker on them from the UK importer with the statutory information on them, but I don't think any of the direct Irish importers do it.

That's funny. Surely customs and excise should be making sure of this, especially if charging duty relating to the strength in some cases no?

No I don't think it's a Revenue issue -- the importer will most likely declare the ABV and pay accordingly. Revenue gets money: job done. This is a consumer issue and falls, oddly, to the Food Safety Authority, who tend to be very lax about such things. Probably too busy trying stop people being actually poisoned by kebab vans.

Although I am not drinking it NOW!, tonight I will drink La Chouffe and Mc Chouffe. Had them both before but want to directly compare them tonight.

    Also some Brugs Witbier.

Then onto a Tapas bar for some Galician cider, sangria Tinto de Verano (these aren't really beers though...).

Sierra Nevada Pale ale ... very tasty indeed. Fruity nose and there is a lovely grapefruit after taste.

    Now

Sierra Nevada Glissade Golden Bock very nice also but I think I prefer the pale ale.
    Their Torpedo Ale is fantastic!!

Their Harvest Ale is delicious too

Had a bottle of O'Hara's Pale Ale last night, nothing to get too excited about I thought

    Oh my!
Opened it last night (cork broke).
Port is certainly a good description but so bovrily!
I've had bovrily beers before (aged Samichlaus, aged Eisbock and a strange Meantime London Porter) but this is really like port mixed with bovril.

I think I'll have to revisit it to form a final opinion.
(barely made an impression on it last night)

Had that lately in Amsterdam ... €1.26 from an offie there :D

    Really really nice ....

Drinking a schnider weisse kristall at the mo ... not bad but a bit fizzy which I was not expecting.

Had a St Bernardus Wit beer just before that. There was a bit of fizz in this too but suited the beer.

Had a 750ml bottle of Innis&Gunn original oak aged beer last night 4.85e or 1.85e for a 330 ml bottle. A beautifully smooth and strong beer at 6.6% will be having again!!:D

Last night I had a bottle of dogfishhead's india brown ale which was delicious with hints of rum and raisin (to my mind) and Odells 5 barrel Pale Ale the latter was nice enough but didn't rock my world.
Tonight I'll be having the same company's peach beer (can't remember the name) got it in drinkstore who have a great selection of dogfishhead and odell's american craft beers in stock. I also got Williams Brothers - Ginger Beer and their Alba beer both of which sound interesting....

    Drink cool.
(chill, and take out of fridge 1/2 before you want them.
Or keep them in your cellar for half a day!!)
€7.20 seem a bit steep alright but not exactly 'ripoff'.

Was down in Cork yesterday, so popped into the Franciscan Well for a few pints.

I had a Purgatory Pale Ale, which was nice, I'm not generally a fan of Pale Ales because of the hoppiness, but this isn't too hoppy at all.

Then I had a pint of their own stout which is not bad.

They also have a "guest" stout in there at the moment, which is delicious.

Seems very expensive. At most a bottle of these types of beer should be €3.50 or so. Ripped off? maybe but not by a whole lot I would say.

Old speckled hen is 1.99 where I work, don't know about the other one though but it does seem a tad expensive.

Some new ones this weekend, can't remember much details regarding them.

mendocino red tail - very drinkable
    mendocino white hawk - decent
grolsch weizen - good, I expected worse
flensburger pils - bitter, took me a while to finish
    flensburger weizen – good
black diamond jagged edge – odd taste then the usual ipa but good.

Black Pearl, yeah? I wish every pub served that, it's wonderful.

Love that myself - got a really nice blackberry flavour from the hops, think it's a top IPA.
