Below is the content of email received from Castle GC. If you took part in their first JSC through Topgolfer you will probably have received this already.

    MATCHPLAY
    CHAMPIONSHIP

Castle Golf Club is running its first
    Open Match play Singles tournament.

€55 entry could see players get up to 8 games!!!
Great value and an opportunity for a Great Title.
(For those who get to the semi final,
    unlimited practice rounds are available.)

As you may be aware we have just completed our 50th All-Ireland Father and Son tournament with record numbers competing.

For those who enjoyed The All-Ireland Father & Son event this is your chance to give yourself another opportunity to visit Castle Golf Club but this time to play singles matchplay!

The first round will be played in August/September and subsequent rounds per draw through the following months to a final in April.

This is perfect opportunity for those players looking to extend their Golfing season. We believe this will encourage golfers to stay competitive all year round.

Castle Golf Club is always in super condition, with USGA greens providing great putting surfaces all year round!

This title would be fantastic to have on your golf CV come next season when golfers are looking to get coveted spots on club teams

Any idea whether you can play ties at the weekend? €55 for 8 rounds sounds good, but €55 for 10 holes not so.

Hannigan only went and did it again yesterday and won the Royal Tara JS with two rounds of 73. Bunch of us heading to a wedding in Sorrento next week so we'll have to listen to his gloating for a few days! :D

Good man JC, Saturdays result should guarantee you getting in. Playing myself, think the draw is being made today. Fingers crossed for good weather.

Can't see anyone being turned away this year - they had -50 names as of the original closing date. Could be a hacker-fest.

I wonder how much longer RD will bother running it for.

True, it clashes with a couple of other scratch cups and in truth has been really badly publicised this year too.

To be fair though, the course is in superb condition and e30 for 36 holes is a great deal. In terms of a hacker fest, the rough can make the best of players look very silly.

    f22,

I played RD on Friday and was not impressed with the greens, were slow and bumpy, Looked like they had not been cut and different growth levels for the different grasses made for bad greens imo.

No doubting the good value on offer. Trouble is that as was the case last year Royal Dublin just started accepting anyone to make up the numbers. I ended up playing with a 13 handicapper who was playing off 9 on the day. No wonder the lower handicappers are turning their backs.

Played it two weeks ago and they were great. Chop and a roll and they will be back again.

    That defeats the purpose alright.

Just noticed too that the sheet for the Lord Mayors is completely empty for the afternoon. Sign of the times?

Good to see 71 players down for Woodenbridge Junior Scratch.
Was worries it'd be very quiet.

Weds PM or Thurs AM before the Lumsden Draw will be available. Must be trying to squeeze a few more 13 handicappers in there.

Laytown Junior Scratch this monday, always a safe point two back for me!

Very pleased to see a great field at Woodenbridge yesterday. 106 played, and the winning score was -2, followed by a few more on +1 and +2, so there was a quality turn-out, especially on a b/h weekend.

I feared the worst on the way down, given that the place had slipped in terms of maintainence last year, but am pleased to report it's back in order - nice greens and perfect lies on the fairway, other than a few spots of flood damage.

Fair play to the Top Golfer guys. We were all sceptical at first but I think in terms of offering better prizes, attracting more and better players and making it an better even in general, they've done well this year.

I doubt there will be a large entry at the price so might be a good opportunity to quailfy for the topgolfer tour final!!!:P There is a singles in my own club that day so 35e + petrol + food makes it a no-brainer for me. Pity :(

Anyone got the results from the Lumsden Cup on Sunday. The only prize I got was .2 for my trouble thanks to some of the toughest rough I have ever played from.

139 won - Graeme McQueen from Roganstown. Off 5. He shot 71 gross in afternoon to win by two from me. I'd 141 and lost .7 for my troubles. Gross was won by rob McCarthy with 146. 143 was third.

I love that course, for whatever reason it really suits me, hit the ball ok, without being really good. Just managed to grind out pars and keep away/get lucky in the heavy stuff.

Good man Graeme, I was talking to him after the second round and had stupidly assumed he meant a net 71. Great golf all the same and well done to you to you Paul.

Rob McCarthy had a hole in one on the 7th in the first round, although I've never seen anyone throw as many clubs in my life through a round.

Yeah fair play to him G-Mac! (lol)

McCarthy was a star man at under-age level, and came to nothing unfortunately. Nice lad from what I can remember, if a little mental.

G-Mac, first the US Open and now the Lumsden, all down hill from here.

McCarthy is still a very good player but inside his head is his biggest handicap.
