+1 on the sixth...it was quite bobbly around the hole - missed birdie chances there in both rounds from inside 10 feet. The turf was laid 10 weeks ago and it's still knitting. I don't have the full set of results but I'll try and post them tmw.

Looking forward to playing the Intermediate in a few weeks. even though I live beside Lucan I haven't played it in years. Not to hijack the thread but is it true they are open for membership with no entrance fee?

€1,600 a year as far as I know but Madds will know more about this.

It's quite a lot to stump up every year, but might be worth it seeing it's such a nice course and I just live 5 minutes away from it.

Talking of nice courses, played the intermediate in Naas yeaterday, excellent course and in great condition, also played the front 9 in 2 over which helps to colour your view of a course, but the changes they made to the back 9 a few years ago are excellent.

Think they're open for membership as well.

Didn't enjoy Lucan at all. A combination of mediocre golf and a very frustrating golf course.

Bunkers were shockingly inconsistent, the pace of the greens was brutal, and the state of the holes in the afternoon was piss poor - a good few had almost caved in and were about 2-3mm smaller PM than they were AM.

Kudos to Madds and the guys running it, it was very well run and the pace of play was superb. Grub was good too. I'm just delighted i don't have to play the course every week!

Intermediate Scratch in Gowran Park this coming Sunday....

Played the 36 hole Junior in Kilkenny on Sunday last and enjoyed it although the golf was crap as usual... course was in good shape after the rain but the greens were slow.
I am a double bogey machine at the moment... making progress after my first lesson in years but can't score for love nor money.

Which holes had nearly caved in Mr. Sifter - please confirm because I didn't notice this but will follow up with the Course Comm. There were new cups and pins fitted last week so the holes were/should have been the correct width.

Thanks for the feedback and I'm disappointed to hear you didn't enjoy the course this year.

'Caved in' is perhaps the wrong way to described them, but there were a number of them on the front 9 especially where the sides of the hole looked like they'd been cut by a 5 year old with a bread knife. 7 in particular was really bad, as was 2. 5 and 6 also weren't great.

I'd imagine it was something to do with the heavy rain saturday and then humid (growing) weather on sunday, combined with alot of traffic.

Another point i'd make is the placement of the little flags midway up the flags. Very few of them actually showed the correct pin placement. Much pining for my laser was done!!

Out of interest did anyone play in Malahide on Sunday. Senior Scratch Cup was a poor turn out but it still went ahead and was won with 146. Junior Scratch was a much better attended event with nearly 100 playing and was won with 74.

Hopefully next year it can be marketed a bit better and maybe combine the two together so that both are played over 36 holes.

played in the JSC,first time playin the course, liked it a lot, made a balls of 3 of the first 4 holes, was 3 over from there but not good enough, all par3's are tricky, some good par 4's with plenty of water

I've stood on the 5th tee 3 over plenty of times, 1st, 2nd and 4th holes you can drop shots on easy enough. greens i feel are in great nick, not lightning fast but good to putt on. The weather on the day i'm sure helped the enjoyment as well!

as i t'd off early i got the worst of the day as it was quite windy early on,enjoyed the day though

Thanks Huntelaar, hope you enjoyed the event. Tbh the greens were a little rough in places which I suppose is understandable with all the rain we had on Friday and Saturday. Pity we didn't catch them in the condition they were in 3 weeks ago.

JSC was won by Liam Hannigan (5) from Lucan with 145 (70, 75) and the SSC was won by Mark Reck (2) with 141 (69, 72) also from Lucan. From what I could see there were no delays and everything ran smoothly. Thanks to all who supported and look fwd to seeing you again next year.

Congrats on the event Madds, a success by all accounts, good turn out and well run. And well done to the two boys!

Woodenbridge Junior Scratch is on the August Bank Holiday Monday. It's a Topgolfer event. Time sheet is available online.
However at €35 I'm not suprised there are only 3 names down. Lovely track but not at that price. €20-€25 last year.

I'm pretty price-inelastic when it comes to Woodenbridge.
    Definitely playing.

Malahide JSC was €25,€35 for WB is a joke, maybe the extra is for the helmets they're giving out for protection with all the balls flying all over the shop,i love the place but it's 18 holes squashed into a space for 15 holes, very clostro imo

Fair comment. But it's my favourite golf course bar none. I've shot 92, 72 and a few scores in between, and enjoyed it just as much each time. It's just a shame it's slipping in terms of maintanence.

If the club aren't flush for cash in lean times, I don't mind paying an extra fiver or tenner. At least it's better than paying €45 to a club like Castle who don't need the money, but just do it because they can fill the timesheet. Many clubs fill their JSC timesheets year in year out and haven't opted to wring the highest possible price out of us.

I just checked golfnet and only the 1st round for Lucan JSC has been recorded so far, is this the case for anyone else who played in it?

Fair points in your post. It has always been my favorite too. And your 2nd paragraph is very convincing (are you on commission;)). I presume the club is trying to recoup the cost of the damage done by the dreadful flood in the Winter.

I doubt there will be a large entry at the price so might be a good opportunity to quailfy for the topgolfer tour final!!!:P There is a singles in my own club that day so 35e + petrol + food makes it a no-brainer for me. Pity :(

A good concept that, wish more clubs would follow suit. Like the idea of a matchplay to come after...

Hey Keane16....sorry but I haven't been to the club since last Sunday week and my fellow members are having problems locating the results. :o I'll fwd them onto you as soon as I have them.

I think that's just a junior as in juvenile open. The junior scratch cup is just a one-dayer at the end of august.

No Huntelaar, it's definitely a Junior Open. As in, handicap range like a junior scratch cup. It's just a comp that they run as well as running a Junior Scratch Cup. A friend of mine won the Intermediate version of this last month.

A right, my bad. Sounds like a good idea so!

Wish it wasn't so far away!

Me too, out at 8.50 to avoid the usual 5 hour afternoon carnage.
