I dont know which is funnier:

1.This guys ego, when he hasn't reallydone anything worth mentioning.
2.Playing in a t-shirt with your own name on the back
    or
3.The part where he says David Guetta has managed to maintain underground credibility.

    Highly amusing little video.

Glad you enjoyed it so much Oliver. Full length DVD and signed t-shirt on the way to you in the post.

    1. just cus you're not in to trance doesn't mean the work Gibbons has done over the years is worthless.

    2. plenty of other DJ's do it....don't really see a bit deal about that to be honest?

    3. If it wasn't for Guetta, there would be no "stepping stone" as such for people to move on to other genre's of dance music!

    1. Can't produce his own stuff, his collaborations are horrific even by trance standards. Hasn't had any actual success with his releases, unlike O Callaghan, who while rubbish seems to have some sort of talent/skill.

    2. It's clearly putting the cart before the horse. He may as well just go on reality tv. He clearly wants to be famous for the sake of it.

    3. Nobody can argue that Guetta's music is needed. Deadmau5 as a gateway yeah, but Guetta not a chance.

Your timing is spectacular Jeff - check your Soundcloud mail.

For the record, I do produce my own music and I could point you towards a UK No.1 dance chart position and No.22 in the Irish commercial charts but why let reality get in the way of a good dig at someone?

It's fine if you don't like what I do - everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Anyway, good luck with your own tracks, career, etc. You're doing some nice stuff.

John, you deserve a good dig everytime you put something like this up on the internet. Which is quite often.

Oh if only you knew the reality of it, I've known john for about 10 years, long before he had the name he has now, and to be honest, for the work he's put in to music and the irish scene he deserves some recognition!

And for music that's "horrific even by trance standards" he seems to be doing pretty well for himself.

His DJ roster for the past 6 months looks pretty full....

while it may not be your cup of tea, Jeff, he's still put silly ammounts of effort in to what he has done over the years.

Also, slating someone in a roundabout way, while being interviewed on nation radio, not really a great move to be doing.

I'm just curious, this isn't a dig - What were the names of those tracks?

not going to say much but why should people not make there real feelings known.

not a great move why?because he might offend people who can further his career.

i think thats the point jeff is trying to make.if your talented enough alot of this overhyping isnt necessary.

not claiming that anyone in particular is doing this but if your trying to pass off other peoples productions as your own they should definitely be called out.

    Pretty funny thread here.

What exactly was said on nation radio that caused such a stir?

Im not going to have a go at you John cause im completely unaware of your productions as im not in to trance but i must ask, can you explain why exactly you think that David Guetta has retained his underground status? I really find it hard to believe that you would really think that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jtsuited

not much was said. i was talking about why i like myspace, and went off on a tangent about people inflating their online presence with sunglass endorsements and press shots of shapes being made with hands. Don't know why there's an issue being made about it tbh.

that david guetta comment is the stupidest things ive ever heard anyone associated with electronic music say, guetta would probably punch you in the face is you said to him his music was underground, hes the furthest thing from underground dance music you can get.

the vid itself is incredibly cringe worthy to anyone over the age of 21, but sure hes seen the niche in the 15-21 year old market and seems to be doin well out of it, all about the money of course.

the vids getting rave reviews over on EMI

    Hi all,

First in foremost kudos to John for getting the chance to support Tiesto at a gig.

Which one of you's would have liked that opportunity to do that? Supporting arguably the most popular DJ in the world?!?!

So what if he wears a t-shirt to promote himself....would you have done the same? It's all about getting your name out there...and its very hard to tell people your name in a crowd of 100's or 1000's and it being a bit noisy...in essence, it's tough to get your name out there at all!

I met John briefly many moons ago on pirate radio but i had a feeling that he would go on to do good things. looking at his style, his music, his presentation and going out to promote himself on the road.

Remember, this was an irish jock supporting a big name on the irish leg of his tour. would we be up in arms if Tiesto brought some other foreign jock to warm up for him?

Oh yeah, John does have a dose of the Eye Ball Paul's about his looks!!!

Possibly none, that's why he's getting slated.

More than likely not, that's why he's getting slated.

I would imagine that he'd be getting just as much stick if was acting in the same way.

    Hi bazmo,

you mean to tell me that hes is getting slated for supporting tiesto, wearing a t shirt that says his name on it and hes acting differently to it?

typical irish mentality. someone wants to promote himself and all the begrudgers come out.....

You never even answered my questions -

1 - what would you have done to play warm up or support to tiesto, or whatever big name dj out there?

2 - how would you promote yourself?

i was at the faithless gig a few weeks back and they had a warm up jock before the band came on. he was really good. i don't know who he was. maybe of he had a t shirt on him with his name and or a website associated with him, that would solve that.

3 - how would you act differently?

i don't see that John has acted in any way to offend or annoy anyone. It's a video blog ffs. not that many people can say they supported tiesto on a club night. its good to see someone in the times we live in make his own name in the world.

we can all rate or slate someone. constructive criticism we can all accept but accusations of robbing other peoples music is below the belt. if you look at the video again, he was giving a talk at a dj academy on those who inspire to become dj's. nice touch.

was anyone on this thread actually at the gig or knows someone who was at it so we can get viewpoint on John's set on the night?

It would seem so, but it’s not me that’s slating him.

Possible begrudgery, or possible well deserved p1sstaking.

    Funky G wrote: »

I never slated him so there’s no point in asking me. Having said that though, I don’t think I’d be that up for supporting Tiesto as he doesn’t play the type of stuff I’m into.

I don’t have to, so I’ve never thought about it. But if I did have to, I’d like to think I’d come up with something less cheesy.

    See answer above.

See, you keep mentioning Tiesto. Maybe that’s the answer to your question right there.

 Again, the answers seem to be in your own questions.

I think anybody that was is in the middle of doing their Junior Cert exams.

funky g ill save you alot of time.

99.9% of people on this boards detest trance, hate tiesto and also hate people who try hard to self promote.

by the way you seriously dont think he did the dj academy talk for free.his "nice touch" was probably nicely paid(nothing wrong with that but dont use it as some sort of charitable act on his behalf)

there are a few people on here who are doing great things in music but dont shout about it.this is the best way to promote by just letting your music do the talking.

also the guetta comment wouldnt have won many people over as its simply false

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 250 ✭✭Funky G

    Hi all,

    Good debate here,

bazmo - you never did answer my questions,

in essence, if tiesto is not your cup of tea, what would you have done to get yourself a slot alongside a dj, (big name or not) that plays the type of music you are in to?

as for promoting your self, each to there own. you have your way, i have mine, john has his. we all want to do well in this industry so don't diss on a person for the road he or she takes get there. cheesy or not - it works. its a different ball game now from when i started a long time ago....

as for your junior cert remark - now that is childish. music is for everybody, not just a certain age group.

seannash - did you do a poll to come up with your findings?

isn't one of the reasons of having sites like boards is to get known, promote a club night, promote a track or encourage people to get together? and how do you get the music out there? no harm in telling people about. or is it a big secret....

as for his dj academy things - if john is reading this:

Did you get paid for your dj academy stint?

As for the Guetta remark, the jury is still out for me......

    Regards,

    G.

no i didnt do a poll but with over 2k posts ive been around here long enough to know what most of the posters like and trance isnt what they like

as for promotions, yes this is a section to promote upcoming nights not to put a video up of yourself preparing for a gig.
its just put up for an ego boost imo,a bit of a look at me thing

as for your opinion being out on david guetta your just as afraid of offending people who may help your dj career as he is.

grow a pair and admit that guetta is as commercial as they come

so you have over 2000 posts and that makes you an expert?

If trance is not what the people like - as you may say - then why not get the mods to ban its discussion? or even make the T word a curse?

as for offending people, i'm not here to offend anyone, just to offer an opinion, hence that is why we are on this site.

As for your guetta remark, i think you spilt your milk....

oh god.no it doesnt make me an exepert but i know what the majority of posters on here like when it comes to music because we've been discussing music on this forum http://boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=126

its not about banning it its just doesnt really get discussed that much and when it does get brought up most people say there not fans of it

me saying your trying not to offend anyone is down to you sitting on the fence about the guetta comment

as for spilt milk, its fairly ovbious you havent been around here too long.

    tis fairly tame this stuff
