Was lighting a few chinese lanterns and enjoying the warm glow as they drifted off into the air.

One landed in the neighbours and the PIR lights came on.

Apparently it landed on a highly combustable saw dust dry decking.

    Decking should be banned.

Worse still it might have landed on the parasol and I would have lost the lantern entirely.

    Amusing

I have two in the apartment here but like the OP don't consider using them in a built-up area a wise decision. They'll be used when I head back to the folks place or when the occasion/location calls for it.

remote controls are over-rated.. much more fun to get the kids to run round turning lights on and off

and so many more TV stations now it's not just 6..

takes ages and they get so fed up it makes me laugh when they say can i get up now please.. my knees are bruised.. pleasse

I agree those lanterns shouldn't be used in built up area's,they should be used in the country side where the only hazard would be if they landed in a forest or a farmers barn with his stash of hay,or perhaps his wheat field. Yes, don't use them in a city built of concrete, the chances of them landing on decking is huge.

Seriously, think about it, these things could cause a some serious damage if not death.

I am not racist, as suggested.
I did not light the lantern, as suggested.
I am not bragging, I have nothing more than anybody else.
I seriously believe these things are dangerous, in both built up areas and other areas as pointed out by dubtom

Loads of sarcasic replys but what if it happened to you, and your decking was damaged, would you not think of, what if ???

Proper order, much more fun setting them airborne somewhere rural where they can later descend and set a haystack alight or create a gorse fire on some hillside. Better still head down to a beach and see if someone mistakes it for a distress flare at sea and phones the coastguard.

OP, have you ever rang JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Duffy?

Your posts sound like that of one written by one of his regular listeners/contributers.

Having said that, I'd probably be a bit miffed about it, if it happened to me.

Let me guess, some of your best friends are Chinese lanterns?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

Chinese lanterns are like playing with matches, except you burn the fcuk out of someone else's property.

Heaven forbid someone would suggest banning them, that would be an affront to our well established chinese lantern traditions in this country.
